Been a while since the board had a genuine running joke like the he's 23, or Will Minson level. Cheers for that Grimey Boy

Look at this home, how can youuuu afford this without being an ITK

Maybe, but we wouldn't all state it as fact repeatedly that he's only got 3 years left.

indirectly you do though. Because people are saying 'pies are paying 300k so we're only playing 700k'. That's suggesting (and assuming) that he's playing a full 5 years. All I'm pointing out is that we're actually paying 1.1m if he plays to an already respectable 32 years of age.

I thought danster168 was our new running joke?

They won’t have the cap space - so agree from their point of view Grundy is ideal but if we are coughing up 300k then I don’t see the benefit.

I know last year we were after Harmes - so perhaps he could be the player along with a first rounder?

Harmesy's big pearly whites would never fit in at the Pies. We'd have to get Grimesy back to knock a few of them out before Collingwood went for this one

Clearly some people don’t understand you don’t get good compensation for salary dumps.
Treloar was basically a future second rounder in the end. Dependent on how much salary we take on, it wouldn't be much more than that. Maybe a future first with a later pick coming back our way.

especially when said salary dump has knocked back teams and is likely limited to just one team, his preferred choice.

Like people here thinking we'll rob Norf and get a third for Tomo, absolutely dreaming. More likely a late pick swap (which we lose out on), Tomo and our 4th for Norf's 5th and we pay half his salary or something like that.

The goal of a Tomo trade is to get salary off our books so we can bring others in, not pissing about worrying about playing hardball over shitty compensation. If you do that you likely turn clubs off completely and they walk away from discussions

Id be seething if we gave up a 1st honestly. If we are his preferred club of choice a 2nd would be as high as im willing to go.

We aren’t going to play hardball either, not our style. Get the deals done and move on is how we’ve rolled under Taylor and Lamb.

I know paying $700k for Grundy sounds a lot but we have to stay in the Premiership window for as long as we can to perhaps pinch another flag, its a no brainer to get this guy, Jackson is gone so a ready made replacement is a must, We cant go back to the draft and hope some skinny 18 year old is going to support Gawny, that is not going to happen.
We need the best possible replacement and Grundy fits that bill, there is nothing else out there.
Just go and get him- everyone will soon forget the $$$ when he starts to star.

I think Gawn and Grundy can work, however there’s also a very real possibility it doesn’t work given neither are great forward.

If that does eventuate, all of a sudden we are stuck for the next 5 years with this combo and not much flexibility to fix it.

In a few years time, we will be playing 2 slow 33-34 year old banged up ruckmen, taking up a spot that could potentially be given to a younger ruckman, which may hurt future development.

I understand we are in win-now mode, and if Grundys remaining contract was only 2 or 3 years, I’d be all for it. Just not sure the reward outweighs the risk in this case.

Couldn't agree more, and well said. Nice, sensible analysis with no over the top hysterics (take note Danster).

I'm happy enough for us to get Grundy but the reality of the player market is that Jackson, who is on the up, is worth more than Grundy who Collingwood want to move on for salary reasons.

I'd be disappointed if the top pick we get for Jackson is used to bring in Grundy. I want to see us in the first round taking either a tall forward or goalkicking mid.

I'm not really sure if I see the point neither a forward or a goal kicking mid will make any impact in the coming years. May as well just get Grundy because we are in the window now.

Like JVR or Laurie? Because the picks we get aren't at all likely get someone better.
Almost certain neither get a game next year either if we do draft them, meanwhile we go to into next year with a complete change in the way we play as Weid or Tmac has to become second ruck which means Gawn spends 80% game time in the ruck

Look, I feel like we should seriously look into delisting Max Gawn this offseason and retroactively giving the 2021 premiership back. After reading danster168 posts, I realised that Max had a serious run of knee issues and that injured ruckman never make a comeback from said injuries or ever hit any type of form. We are clearly playing on borrowed time with his past injuries and he will never come good. We should sell while the market is high on him and trade in 8-9 full forward prospects. I reserve the right to mix anyone who disagrees teeth into the pavement with my fists and will promptly delete my account.
