You say this like there's a proven track record of teams being able to win multiple premierships through an ongoing list regeneration with youth.Yeah, so would I but I've experienced more than enough 10-15 year rebuilds to personally want to risk going through another one. Between 2007-2016 our ladder positions over this 10 year time span were 16th, 18th, 18th, 12th, 12th, 16th, 17th, 17th, 13th, 11th.
If rebuilds were only 4 years then sure, but we only need to look at Carlton, North and us to see that rebuilds can last 10-15 years. I personally don't want to jeopardise our future to bring in a guy who is 29 years old and doesn't help our main issue, the forward line.
I'd love to trade in Matthew Jefferson, lock him in the gym for 2 years, and have our forward line sorted for the next decade.
But also, look at Sam Darcy, he is already playing great footy, in his first season. Ugle-Hagan and Logan Mcdonald are also playing some good footy in their 2nd seasons so hitting the draft can still help us in the short term. (1-2 years)
but NN isn't still running around. He's basically been out all of this season.danster168 Nic Nat has another 2 year contract taking him to 34, if he is still running around at that age with all his injuries then surely Grundy could too?
Well yeah, Jackson looks to be going though and Laurie I'm far from sold on. The others look good though. The club has already prioritised bringing in more top end talent through 2019-2021 drafts.
Dogga, Pickett, Rivers, Bowey, Laurie and JVR is a pretty good crop of kids inside pick 35, all things considered.

I never said multiple premierships, I said sustained success and not bottoming out.You say this like there's a proven track record of teams being able to win multiple premierships through an ongoing list regeneration with youth.
Where's the example?
Recent history shows us that making hay while the sun shines by trading in for needs regardless of age is the way to fill the trophy cabinet.
So do I. Replace JVR with Ben Brown though.I want the Casey forward line next year to look like this
2022 KPF First Pick -- Mitch Brown -- 2022 KPF Second Pick
2022 KPF Third Pick -- 2022 KPF Fourth Pick -- 2022 KPF Fifth Pick
with JVR, Weideman, Toby Bedford and the 2022 KPF Sixth Pick on the bench
So what is success if not premierships?I never said multiple premierships, I said sustained success and not bottoming out.
It's a fair point but I want to enjoy watching my footy each year. 1 premiership and then 10-15 years of bottom 4 isn't the way I want to live my life lol. Sustained success to me is continually pushing for top 4. Anything can happen in the finals on any given day and Geelong, at this stage, are favs for this years flag. And were in the game against Richmond 2 years ago.So what is success if not premierships?
Was LOLNORF as much of a success as the Cats the past decade with the prelims they made?
Asking seriously here
Geelong. The team that went out and recruited Cameron, Dangerfield, Higgins, Smith etc etc. All players recruited with the short term view of winning a flag. They're the antithesis of building through the draft with top end talent. It's a fair point but I want to enjoy watching my footy each year. 1 premiership and then 10-15 years of bottom 4 isn't the way I want to live my life lol. I think most people would rather do a Hawks/Tiges, top up and go hard for 3 cups. I think the long term signings mean the core of the blokes who built the culture we have now will be there to guide the next crop through once they are past the peak of their powers. It would take some serious mismanagement to completely fall back to the doldrums, and the way we've stopped letting the club be a joint for our rich supporters to get some prestige out of a position on the board will likely continue to put us in good stead for the future off field. I'd take one this year or next and see a bit of a lull to find the next Petracca and go again 10 times out of 10.It's a fair point but I want to enjoy watching my footy each year. 1 premiership and then 10-15 years of bottom 4 isn't the way I want to live my life lol. ChristSo do I. Replace JVR with Ben Brown though.
Have you been watching the U18's this year? There's probably 5-10 key positions players that would slot straight into our senior team. Josh Weddle and Henry Hustwaite would, not to mention Cadman up forward.
We finished 2nd on the ladder this year and you whinged about our form just about every week. I think you'd enjoy life more if you stopped watching football altogether. It's a fair point but I want to enjoy watching my footy each year. 1 premiership and then 10-15 years of bottom 4 isn't the way I want to live my life lol. I was going to mention earlier that I think when our time comes when we are no longer contenders, we will have a good crop of young talent coming through, much better position than what we were at the end of the Daniher years when we really lacked young talent, and we didn't even get near a premiership in those days. We still have plenty of time to keep the youth coming through until Petracca, Oliver, Brayshaw ect start hitting the wall. I hardly think some pick we give up for Grundy will hurt on the long run.The club has already prioritised bringing in more top end talent through 2019-2021 drafts.

Half the reason they've got better this year is due to a guy like De Koning holding down a key position spot. A guy who they got with a late 1st rounder.Geelong. The team that went out and recruited Cameron, Dangerfield, Higgins, Smith etc etc. All players recruited with the short term view of winning a flag. If anything, they're proof that you can take a short-term trade view and sustain "success".
But we were a Pickett kick away from 6thWe finished 2nd on the ladder this year and you whinged about our form just about every week. I think you'd enjoy life more if you stopped watching football altogether.
Good thing danster rated Pickett's match winning ability so highly all year or he might have been dropped for BedfordBut we were a Pickett kick away from 6th
See, this is why people don't take you seriously. Did he have a really good first year (third year on the list)? Absolutely. Is he already considerably better than a 2x AA/B&F? Absolutely not.Half the reason they've got better this year is due to a guy like De Koning holding down a key position spot. A guy who they got with a late 1st rounder.
Imagine if geelong traded for Brodie Grundy instead of bringing in a De Koning. De Koning is already better than Grundy by a considerable margin. not to mention 800k cheaper.
if the cats go out in straight sets in the finals do you think cats fans will say 'we should've traded the De Koning pick for a 29 yr old ruck'?
Kozzie might have won us a few games off his own boot, but you need to think about all the games he lost for us by not being a KPF which allowed Ben Brown in the teamGood thing danster rated Pickett's match winning ability so highly all year or he might have been dropped for Bedford
Wtf Geelong are literally trying to trade Grundy in right now.Half the reason they've got better this year is due to a guy like De Koning holding down a key position spot. A guy who they got with a late 1st rounder.

I live in Geelong and am surrounded by Geelong supporters constantly. If they don't win the flag this year they'll likely bulldoze the other 3/4 of GMHBA stadium, probably with the coach and full playing list inside. It won't matter how young they are.Half the reason they've got better this year is due to a guy like De Koning holding down a key position spot. A guy who they got with a late 1st rounder.

Once you've done that also committ it to memory that I was the first to say itVery well said stEdy , I need to lay down, stare at the ceiling and ponder both of those things when I get home tonight for a few hours
