Once you've done that also committ it to memory that I was the first to say it
Only if you tell us about it at every opportunity.

Like JVR or Laurie? Because the picks we get aren't at all likely get someone better.
Almost certain neither get a game next year either if we do draft them, meanwhile we go to into next year with a complete change in the way we play as Weid or Tmac has to become second ruck which means Gawn spends 80% game time in the ruck

Come on, the two options aren't get Grundy or have to ruck Weid/Tmac. Second rucks get traded for peanuts every year - if we don't go for Grundy we'll get someone to support Gawn for a third round pick.

And yes, we'll get at least one first rounder for Jackson and we should take it to the draft. You don't give up first round picks for salary dump players.

*Edit - actually I'll correct myself here, I'd be more than happy to use the pick we get for Jackson to bring in an established gun forward. We just shouldn't need to use it to get Grundy.

Its a "you'll take what youre given but we wont offend you with a ridiculous lowball offer so we maintain a respectful trade relationship moving forward" scenario

I expect it to be a second. If not ours then ours traded with something else to someone else to move up a few spots.

100% agree with this part
What if we got Freo's first and future first for Jackson, then on-traded the future pick for Grundy and a future second?

So something like pick ~15 next year for Grundy and pick ~30-35 next year?

Would be similar value to the Trelol trade, and we'd still have Freo's first this year and our first next year to use at the draft.

May not be enough for Collingwood, but feels fair for a salary dump.

Treloar trade is a pretty good comparison - was no need for the Dogs to blink first and dish out a standalone first round pick. They got him for a fair price but were obviously prepared to pass if the price wasn't right. That's the same boat we're in, it's hardly a Grundy or bust situation

Id rather keep the firsts completely out it, if he names us as his one and only preferred club there really is no need to trade them as he is under contract so what is Collingwood going to do? You just get Grundy to say hes happy where he is or Melbourne, thats it.

Dual All Australian Brodie Grundy looks set to play for Melbourne next year if he cannot find a way to stay at the Pies after Geelong went cold on the gun ruckman.
The Cats had some early interest in Grundy given they have always been on the lookout for ruckmen to strengthen that area of their midfield.

But the Herald Sun understands they are content to go into 2023 with contracted ruckmen Rhys Stanley and ex-Hawthorn veteran Jon Ceglar with both performing strongly at times this year.

Stanley has enjoyed his best year in Geelong colours despite some injury niggles with Ceglar putting in an exceptional performance in round 23 with 24 possessions, 29 hit-outs and 11 clearances.

The Cats also hold out high hopes for their No. 24 draft pick from last November in Toby Conway, a former Geelong Falcons ruckman who has played only 10 VFL games due to injury this year.

The Cats ruck stocks have not been so deep for some time given All Australian utility Mark Blicavs is also capable of pinch-hitting in the ruck or even as a midfield tagger.

It means that Grundy is considered likely to move to Melbourne if they lose ruckman Luke Jackson to Fremantle, with his odds of remaining at Collingwood dwindling by the day.

A third option could still emerge but given Grundy has done his due diligence in discussions with Port Adelaide and Melbourne and wants to play for a Victorian contender it would seem less likely.
The Dockers are extremely confident Jackson will find a way to Fremantle but given West Coast still believes it is some chance to secure him every party will wait until he makes an official decision.

The Demons could only consider Grundy if they lost Jackson and the Pies paid up to $300,000 of his million dollar salary for the next five years.

But it would be one of footy’s greatest ruck combinations with eight All Australian nods between them, with the Demons’ interest in Grundy revealed by the Herald Sun in early August.

Critically his knee felt excellent when he returned to VFL football after a three-month PCL issue but it was his ankle that required him to be shut down for the year.

The lack of available key forwards on the market means clubs like Melbourne are having to consider left-field options which for the Demons would see Max Gawn playing more than 50 per cent as a key forward.

Herald Sun, grain of salt and all

As if to prove my point. Geelong apparently don't need Grundy because they've got Jon Ceglar, who they brought in along with a fourth-round pick in exchange for a third round pick.
Strange logic by Geelong if true though. Ceglar is nearly 32 and is, by and large, bog average.

I reckon Geelong wanted Collingwood to pay more and they said no this is what Melbourne wants us to pay so thats as much as we are willing to do.

Clearly Geelong realised that getting Grundy would mean they couldn't draft De Koning three years ago.

Ive changed my mind now we are the only one left standing, lowball the s**t out of them, future 5th take it or leave it. :p
For every extra 100k they pay of his salary per year we'll improve the pick offered by 10

Ive been told a world famous medical expert has examined his knee carefully via sitting on his couch at home and watching the TV that he only has three years left, maybe we should back out. Im sure this is the reason Geelong has.

Ah, Dr. Dan Riviera. Yes, I'd trust his judgement.

but NN isn't still running around. He's basically been out all of this season.

I just thought I’d compile a list of Ruckman that have played into their kid 30s recently, judging by the number of player on the list (I have most certainly missed a few) it looks like it’s not too far fetched to think Grundy could play into his mid 30’s

Cox - 33
Sandilands - 36
Goldstein - 34
McEvoy - 33
Mumford - 35
Martin - 35
Ryder - 34
Nic nat - will be 34 at end of contract

Doesn't really hurt Ruckmen as much when they lose their pace because they can still plod from contest to contest and push the smaller blokes out of the way.

“Melbourne sources have raised serious concerns about Grundy’s ability to handball left handed”

fair call. I respect your post because you're happy to discuss the matter at hand. If we think he's going to play til 34 then it's a good deal.
I hope he has longevity.

And not just longevity but to be playing at the worth of a 700k player. Injuries hit hard after 30 and nic nat, martin, ryder and mcevoy have all missed large chunks with injury.
