Don’t know about you guys but this isn’t looking good

We are trading away a pick 3 player (Jackson) and a pick 9 player (Weiderman) for pick 13, pick 13 (Freo F1) and an 8 pick upgrade in the 30s (Freo F2 for Essendon F3).

Out: Pick 3, Pick 9
In: Pick 13, Pick 13, +8 pick upgrade in the 30s

You can’t be serious

Pick 13 is such a spud pick. Only Patrick Cripps, Tom Lynch, Daniel Talia, Taylor Adams, Shannon Hurn, Brad Ebert, Bob Murphy, Nick Dal Santo, Shane Crawford, Brett Stanton and Jack Riewoldt were taken at 13.

B-b-but, Fritsch is skinny and selfish! Watts is going to make us look silly.

I thought that at the time. I have been proven wrong and happily so.

And he has a dumb haircut!
Its a haircut you can set your watch to.

Not such an unlucky pick. Unless you're triskadekaphobic or suffer from triskaidekaphobia

I think it's good we're culling a few - we haven't made too many changes in the last couple of years. Guys like Pig & Melk are getting cheaper by the year and will be on heavily incentivised contracts and small bases. Only thing I'm not on board with, in terms of our departures, is the lack of movement on getting Baker the **** outta there.

Really interested to see if we look at a 3rd journeyman ruck in case of injury to either Gawn or Grundy, especially if we're chips in on two rucks. Not inconceivable that we would get a DFA or VFL ruck, plus draft a project ruck.

Funny thing is Baker is an otherwise good wing/flanker who can't kick for shit. He's not an AFL player but he's got to be looking side-eyed at some blokes getting a game and wondering if there's a discrimination/restraint of trade thing going on given it's not stopping the other butchers from playing in the ones. :D

Matthew Bate was also pick 13. So was Seb Tape, Jesse Lonergan, J.Brander and D.Venables. But all in all, it's been a decent enough pick.

If we took him at pick 9, imagine our chances at pick 13
I agree, we should ignore every other pick we've made inside the 20 in the past ten years and judge our drafting purely on the one abject failure.

Pick 13's have also played more games on average than Picks 4, 6, 8, 9, 10, 11 and 12.

Low teens picks aren't all that different to late top-10 picks at the end of the day.

I've got to say I'd be very disappointed if the incomings for our trade period were Grundy and pick 13. Let's call Grundy and Jackson a fair swap in terms of 2023 output, that leaves us just pick 13 (will be 14) to improve the list that we all know has some holes.

Any future picks we end up with I don't give anywhere near as much weight to. The primary purpose of trade period is to improve your hand for next year, and that's generally how the club has played it too, by trading out future picks to strengthen our hand.

I've had confidence all the way through that we've got another move or two up our sleeve, but the trade week media chat is starting to get to me and I'm losing a bit of confidence now.

Not sure those averages mean much. The benefit of a top 8 pick is you can usually identify two players who you rate as 3-8 in the draft and be pretty sure you'll get one of them after other clubs draft for needs.

At 13 you're into the second band - the second highest rated ruck, second highest rated small forward, 6 highest rated mid etc. When we were shit at drafting I would have said who cares it's a lottery anyway but now we're good at it I'd much prefer Taylor gets a chance to select one of his top picks.

Veil is firmly stapled on for some posters here.

We actually haven't seen any trades yet, just speculation. Save the melts for when there is something to melt about.
if we don't bring in an answer to Ben Brown I'll be melting all preseason until that spud is eventually off the list.

Petty going forward is based off 5 mins of him playing there. A laughably small sample size. im all for the move but it should be based off several games

Thank you, amen.

I have been saying this for weeks, all our closest competitors appear to be improving there list, getting stronger while we sit on our hands and pat ourselves on the back with pick 13.

It’s as bad as Goodwin game day tactics, change nothing and hope it works.

Brb, telling La Niña she can take the summer off. Danster and Mich0 have got it covered.

We have lost all our tall depth in Weiderman, Brown and Daw and I am not seeing any plan to replace them. Even Tmac is on his last legs

A few injuries and we will have Baker playing at FF

Three state league players. There's Brodie Grundy, a national draft, a delisted free agency period, and a preseason draft to come.

I hope we don’t cave on the Grundy deal if we offer more than 27 I will be a little pissed.

* it, this is what it said:

A Sam Weideman determination to Essendon could trigger immoderate large commercialized play activity.

The Bombers person had occurrence successful teasing retired the champion successful different unfulfilled top-10 endowment successful Peter Wright, aft helium won this year’s nine champion and fairest 2 years aft a commercialized from the Gold Coast for a fourth-round pick. The Dons volition anticipation for a akin effect with Weideman, 25.

With a draught prime besides apt to travel successful for Toby Bedford moving to GWS – the Giants’ archetypal connection of prime 44 has been rejected – the Demons volition person scope to find a solution to the Jackson deal.

The Dockers person offered prime 13 and their aboriginal first-round enactment to the Demons. Melbourne privation thing much for the premiership player, who was prime 3 successful the draught 3 years ago, fixed the Dockers’ aboriginal first-round prime is lone forecast to beryllium different enactment successful the teens.

Freo volition beryllium inclined to adhd a aboriginal second-round prime to the 2 first-round picks if they get a enactment backmost from Melbourne, specified arsenic Essendon’s aboriginal 3rd they person for Weideman, oregon the Bedford pick.

etc etc

I'm pretty excited to see what we do with all that beryllium.

Would look good on a wing I reckon.

About the best you could expect for an uncontracted player.

Keen to fire up the Deathriding Freo thread, but imagine those picks may be moved to get higher up the order this year.
