This is why the calls for trading pick 1 due to “not having a pick between 1 and 55” are ridiculous.

Those extra rookie spots, combined with all our cap space, give us great flexibility to go after Gold Coasts second and third round picks. They have 5.

We start by putting someone on our rookie list. Identify a player Gold Coast want off their books (there are multiple) & do a Brodie style trade.

Suddenly we have 1, a pick in the twenties, potentially one of their thirds + Cooper.

The Logue to PSD is DEFINITELY an option. Yes he has put it out he’d like to do the right thing by Freo but there are 2 things in play - 1. We now have Clarko and Viney added to our list management - they are no fools.
2. Ask yourself WHY Logue wants to leave in the first place 🔔
Easy... he has evidence on the McKay "brothers" being the same person... it conflicts with the WA media narrative that they are two separate players....
Wake up sheeples!

I dont believe we'll trade Clark for a 2nd round pick, but let's say it happens.

Why would we then trade pick 27 and Hill for a future 3rd? The bloke came 7th in our B&F and we already have a million plus in cap space.

Just doesn't make sense for us to trade out two contracted starting 18 players for what might be a 3 or 4 pick upgrade in the second round.

Yeah perhaps another future 3rd from our end gets somehow.

On Hill cap space is a commodity. You are going to have to pay us to take his full contract.

Consider how you could spend the 900k.

Upping your offer for JDG to 1.2m/y would only cost you 300k and he doesnt cost any picks.

Logue & Clark into our back 6 :heavycheck:

A fit Phillips & Cunnington into our midfield :heavycheck:

Sheezel into our forward line :heavycheck:

Mouth watering stuff.

You forgot Bedford up forward

Because you don't want to pay Hill $900k anymore.

The Stkilda fans that want a club to pay up a first rounder for Hunter Clark are dreaming. No wonder they are middle of the road.

24 yr old flanker who averages around 14 games per season and seems to have had injury interruptions. Some risk here. Is he even firmly established in their team yet?

From what I have seen he is more than solid but no chance of a first rounder. Would do for the 2nd round assisted pick.

Bit on Bedford as well - 12:40 in
JHF to the saints? Bit of wishful thinking there

If JDG were to come to us that would change everything, we would absolutely be able to look at a salary dump for Hill. But there is virtually no chance of JDG leaving a big club that just played in a prelim for us.

Salary cap space is a commodity, but we are probably going to have to front end some contracts to get us to the minimum TPP requirements.

He was looking elite in 2020, was immense in our finals win against the dogs.

The only reason he has played so few games is because of impact injuries (a couple of facial injuries and a collarbone from memory).

If you get him for a second round pick, you'll be very, very happy with the acquisition IMO.

Agree with this, saints don't really need to salary dump at this point unless a big fish is coming in. Hannas salary off the books now also. I'm sure you'd want something reasonable in return for hill. Which would put us out of the running for him.

Future assisted second, xerri to saints

Clarke and hill full salary to north

Then

Future assisted third and normal third to freo

Logue to north

It is a big salary chunk to lose over one trade period.

But I guess next year we finally lose the Polec money off our books. Say $500-$600k.

JZ will retire freeing up $500kish

Hall will probably retire freeing up $400kish

So maybe good scope to keep the cap space for large long term contracts for LDU, McKay, JHF and maybe another senior player from another club.

This is the North thread but let me put on a STK hat.

Some of the 900k could be spent on Fiorini.

24yo mid who has been underutilized at Suns.

Guys on 600k and Suns need to dump his salary.

Suns also want Long and future picks and are willing to give up this years picks.

Could Saints package up all this currency for pick 7?

Couldn't care less about Hill unless it is a pure dump and we get something significant from them along with him.

Keep the Clark and Hill deals separate as much as we can.
unless Clark is the something significant. Hill (all salary), Clark for pp Future 3rd

As you've said, it's a North thread so don't want to get too much into what St Kilda can try and do with other clubs, but I would imagine that if we did want to do something along the lines if what you've suggested, we would just deal directly with that club.

I don’t think we would make a bad deal for us with Club A, just because we know we have another lopsided trade coming up that favours us.

I'm not here to say what any deal will be, or to talk up our players or anything like that. I'm just letting people know that any club that wants Hill will need to give up something for him, his inclusion won't make Clark cheaper.

“I’m not here to say what any deal will be”

Proceeds to tell us what you think the deal will and won’t be

With the most respect, you have NFI. You cannot grasp the idea of why salary cap space is more beneficial to your club then a 900k Hill. You therefor cannot fathom how a salary dump trade works. Whilst on top of this, you ignore the publicly common sentiment that Hill has fallen out with his team mates.

You’d be better off running back to your own board and expressing how delusional Norf fans are with others of your own kind that struggle to grasp these pretty straight forward concepts.

I agree with a lot of your skeptical commentary in this thread but I don't think future 2nd is totally off the mark.
Depending on where you think we'll finish up next year, our future 2nd is in all likelihood worth pick 19-25.
Add the future 2nd to the future 3rd, and Freo would be crazy to not accept it for Logue and Tucker, given the possibility of the PSD, and the reality that Tucker clearly wants out and he would be done for steak knives in a separate deal.
Hrovat was a swap of late picks from memory, Marley Williams pick 105, Paul Ahern Pick 69.....don't see why Tucker is worth any more than that. I reckon future second for both of them is about right.....remember they only wanted to pay Logue 250k until other clubs came sniffing,,,,,most would think thats 19-23 in a strong draft...a second and third is paying too much in my view.
