I admire your and TAO's optimism for Charlie's durability.

Personally I do not want to watch what happens when that lump of a kid from Fremantle puts a knee into Charlie's ribs.
Flying for pack marks isn't exactly a risk averse activity. If he still has chalky bones, he won't make it, hiding him from ruck duties won't make a difference.

Disagree mate. Ruck is brutal on their bodies.

I think you can protect a guy as a roaming forward far more than you can in the ruck.

Query to the NMFC BF Board.

Salary dump!
Is it the suggestion that with this proposed change from the AFL that we can use our CAP space to gain draft picks?
For example NMFC could absorb a portion of a players salary for another club in exchnage for picks only, not needing to take on the actual player?

You go slaughter a chicken and use it’s blood to draw a cross on your forehead while sitting in a ring of salt right now!
Naughty boy! Never say that again!

Do we need to pick up 3 in the draft? Is that rule still around?

Also like I said when the pp came out and I got shot down, gut feel is f2 hunter and maybe hill f3 for Logue and tucker…ideally hill is separate…though the are 2nd and 3rd rounds they can be sold as higher as we will be seen to finish by the public bottom 2 again (not by me - finals babe 🤪) which would mean f2 is more like a late first round and first or second pick of the second night of the draft which is would be high demand and to a lesser extent same goes with the 3rd being like a late 2nd

Yes.

He said it would be involved, not that it would be all that it would take. Would certainly be the biggest asset we hand over though as part of that trade.
Sounds too good to be true. Sainters either have rocks in their head or there’s a hidden red flag we aren’t aware of.
What are we giving Freo for Logue?

If Freo want us to take Tuckerbag off their hands then they better ship Darcy along with him, we have a height and weight average to maintain.

Oh FFS. Big men take time. This board way over rates draft picks imo.

Yes we got screwed. We also have Clarko and the best young midfield and full back in the comp. There’s gotta be a time limit on the whingeing. Won’t be too long before we’re commenting in preview threads in September rather than fanciful trade scenarios and all of this hand wringing will be dust.
I'm annoyed that we could've got him for free, but instead we handed over a first round pick to compensate a side that won 3 of the previous 4 premierships. I hope he does prove everyone wrong (including myself) and develops into a great player.

No you need to take the player on

Gold Coast top-10 pick Jack Bowes up for grabs in trade period as Suns look to shed salary cap space

A third Gold Coast player could be on the move, with Izak Rankine and Brayden Fiorini already expected to be elsewhere in 2023.

Top-10 pick Jack Bowes is the latest Sun who could be on the move.

It’s believed Bowes, who is contracted for two more seasons, has told Gold Coast he wants to explore his options elsewhere after playing only five senior games this year.

Rival clubs are aware the 24-year-old defender is up for grabs.

Star forward Izak Rankine has requested a trade home to South Australia to play for the Crows, while Brayden Fiorini could be a Magpie next season in a salary dump move.

Moving on from Bowes would also help the Suns’ cap situation and they are not expected to stand in his way.

St Kilda’s Ben Long is set to join Gold Coast on a four-year deal as an instant half-back replacement after Lachie Weller, Wil Powell and Connor Budarick suffered ACL setbacks.

They also inquired about Western Bulldogs free agent Jason Johannisen but Long’s commitment means the 2016 Norm Smith medallist is more likely to remain at the Kennel.

Cairns-raised Bowes fell out of favour at Gold Coast this year, making his only senior appearances between rounds 14 and 18, compared to 12 matches at VFL level.

He suffered a shoulder injury at training in January that required surgery and sidelined him for three months.

Bowes was one of the Suns’ four top-10 picks in the 2016 draft, along with Ben Ainsworth, Jack Scrimshaw and Will Brodie.

Scrimshaw and Brodie now play for Hawthorn and Fremantle, respectively, while Ainsworth inked a new two-year deal in April to remain at Gold Coast until the end of the 2024 season.

The initial plan was to integrate Bowes into the Suns’ midfield rotation this year but he remained in a defensive role. He has played 83 games in six seasons.

Gold Coast joins the Giants and Magpies as clubs keen to shed salaries in the trade period after the AFL gave the green light for more salary dump deals that are common in overseas sports.

GWS is set to part with Tim Taranto and Jacob Hopper (Richmond), Bobby Hill (Collingwood) and Tanner Bruhn in moves that could fix an annual problem but that will be a talent drain.

Bruhn is leaning towards requesting a trade to Geelong but also has interest from North Melbourne.

The Giants join West Coast, Essendon and the Kangaroos in trying to lure Toby Bedford from the Demons, who have presented him with a contract offer.

The Magpies are preparing to transform their list despite a sizzling run to the preliminary finals.

Brodie Grundy (Melbourne) and Ollie Henry (Geelong) could both be in new colours in 2023, while Fiorini, Hill, Billy Frampton, Dan McStay, Tom Mitchell and Sam Hayes may all be incoming.
