If we draft a KPD next year they could be potentially 4 to 5 years behind the core group in terms of development.

Always takes longer for KP players to develop.

IMO we go for a 23 to 27 year old key defender who can slot in immediately next to Mckay.
100%. I'm happy to grab a tom highmore type from the state leagues now thanks.

And the 2014 Durdin, Nielson, Vickers-Willis draft put the club back 10-12 years in terms of development for 1, 2 and 3rd tall defenders. Joel Tippett was also a rookie elevation in 2014.

We wouldn't have picked up Walker if that draft had of panned out in terms of what was a big investment via the draft.

The same can be said of the recent drafts which has a had a huge investment in the midfield, flankers and medium forwards.

Darcy Gardner
Jack Payne
Darcy Moore
Jayden Leverde
Alex Pearce

Gee, Lukosius would be a robbery.

Also can't rule out contracted players if we're thinking of splashing out a first rounder.

This 200% - can’t draft a kpd and hope he’s good in 3-5 yrs.
Our mids will be flying in 1-2 yrs and need the rest of the side to be ready to go.
I’d give up a top 5 pick for real quality kpd

Or alternatively, drafting a good one instead of a list clogger. For a guy who hates list cloggers, you certainly love the idea of clogging the list with them
Drafting a good one goes without saying

genius posting by you

the point is we’ve past drafting one now and have to bring an experienced one in who will be ready to challenge for a flag in 2 years
