For his sake anywhere. Not as a wing?
Get to the point. Are we getting Heeney or aren't we?This time of the year dropping in to read and keep updated you have to keep balance and in touch with reality. From Chicken Littles with the sky is falling, to those jumping at shadows, delusion and paranoia run rampant.
From the rush to microwave memberships because the club was recruiting Kyle Hartigan from Hawthorn, to disappointment that JDG is not coming to St Kilda, to Saints refusing to even entertain discussions with Suns to take on player and pick 7, there is no end to anger at rumours and rubbish.
The rules for trading and drafting sanity:
1. Just because a click bait journo, or 13 year on an Internet forum says its so, it may not be
2. Saints (and every other club) is investigating every possible scenario. If you see another club doing a trade etc, don't then assume that we didn't also examine it. We either didn't want that player, the player didn't want to come to us, he is too expensive, we can't fit him under our salary cap, or that we don't have the trade capital to make it happen
3. The fact that the St Kilda admin is not telegraphing every possible move they are making publicly is a POSITIVE. Best negotiations are done quietly and professionally, not alerting everyone to what you are doing, or thinking
4. Sometimes this time of the year, it is the thrill of the chase. Whilst the hunt and chase is exhilarating, it is better to take a calculated approach with who comes in, who departs and who we draft.
5. If you see a scenario that involves more than two parties, it will rarely happen. Complicated trades that involve 4 clubs, 8 picks, a sheep dog and a handful of beans are fun, but fantasy
6. Bringing up an isolated past error from a trade, or draft is irrelevant. The only people who don't make errors are those who don't make decisions, or make decisions with the benefit of hindsight
7. Sometimes the best purchase is the one you walk away from.
At this point, losing players like Ryder and Long (Clark*) whilst drafting picks 10, 30 & 50 plus top ups is gonna do precisely nothing.Seen that movie before. Same ending.
Not sure about the Bowes one. Doesn’t add up really. Bit like GC’s salary cap. Must be more to it.
I hope we keep our powder dry for the fall out we seem to miss out on. Treloar for example. Or maybe we have something going on behind the scenes.
Or…..and this is a biggie….just take what we have and draft some decent young guys. Pick up a gem in the pre-season draft. Grab a top State League player.
Bit unimaginative, but it just might work out in the long term.
Get him.Xavier O'Halloran?
GIANT IN LIMBO
But another Giant selected in the opening round of the draft – Xavier O'Halloran – is currently in limbo.
The 2018 pick No.22 is hopeful of earning another deal to remain at the Giants, but will need to wait and see where things sit after the trade period.
It is understood that some Victorian-based clubs have expressed interest in the Western Jets product.
O'Halloran played 14 games in 2022 – three times as the medi-sub – after playing 17 games last year for a total of 33.
GWS is believed to be open to re-signing the 22-year-old for 2023, but want to wait until it deals with the trade period before making a final decision on O'Halloran.
With the pandemic interrupting 2020 and 2021 and a change of coach impacting the landscape at the Giants in 2022, O'Halloran has struggled to cement a permanent spot in Greater Western Sydney's best 22.
With Taranto, Hopper, Hill and Bruhn all set to move south, O'Halloran is the only other uncontracted player at the Giants who is yet to learn his fate. – Josh Gabelich

If they lose Mitchell, their midfield will be incredibly thin.Jeez Gunston will be a good get for the Lions.
The Hawks on the other hand, if they lose Mitchell aswell are they tanking?
I was more referring the need to make decisions on players on players who will get us there.
Push harder on De Goey.
Trade out good players to improve us etc.
Whilst i completely agree with this he is a needs guy not a star.
We need a second key forward who can backup ruck. He doesnt have to be a star.
Worth a speculator and if he doesnt work out no biggie. King is still gonna get monstered and Roma is still going to do 80% gametime in the ruck. Weideman might mean they both get 20% better.
They're already struggling and could lose two of their best players. If they lose Mitchell, their midfield will be incredibly thin.
Main hands would be Worpel and the young Poowong fella.

Interesting looking at Weidemanns VFL stats for the finals, he dominated in the ruck. Clearly has some chops in there for a 195cm lad.Forward rucks are really hard to find. Lobb is in demand at a high wage because he's pretty much the only available forward ruck. If they can chop out and kick a goal or two a game and stretch out the defence they are a valuable commodity. I think he can get to that kind of level.
It's deep in the realms of Puff the Magic Dragon landFrom the Essendon board:
Some serious delusion going on. They really think we would piss away pick nine like that.
Mitchell was moved to half forward for a lot of this year so they could back in Worpel, Ward, Newcombe etc more time in the midfieldIf they lose Mitchell, their midfield will be incredibly thin.

All part of the plan. He’ll get on the piss over Christmas, get sacked and we’ll sign him as a DFA in February
And Collingwood caved… players in future know they can push them as much as they want.
Nice if Grundy actually had no takers for his huge contract ( I know it won’t happen) and they were stuck with big sc problems.
They were talking about him on SEN.I would like to see Saints make a decent pitch to Tom DeKoning. Exactly what we need and contract expires next year.

Big yes from me. He’s a gun
hope we get him. Been a fan for a while. Leadership qualities and being played WAY out of position. Essentially no time as an actual mid. always off on a wing or some pocket. Kept out of it by the likes of Green, Greene, Cogs, Kelly, Whitfield, Hopper, TarantoGet him.
Next year is meant to be a good draft, in their position it would be crazy not to be tanking for a couple of years. They're already struggling and could lose two of their best players.
Wonder what their spoon odds are.
He's got none because witnessing his effort in pumping James Hird's tyres as the ONLY CANDIDATE that should coach Essendon reflects he's got a licence to bullshit..View attachment 1519280
Wonder if there’s any behavioural clauses in Slobbo’s contract?
Or how he’d feel if they were proposed…![]()

They need something to trade for Dunkley.Gunston to Brisbane. Gee they have their fingers in a lot of pies this off-season. Gunston, Dunkley, looking at Bowes + p7 apparently, must be going all out next year.
Plus they’ll get the number one draft pick in Will Ashcroft (so not sure why theyd want pick 7).
