Sitting here right now I find it really difficult to see how we turn it around. I think we have good players we can build a side around but a lot who pick and choose when to show up. Again I think our biggest issue is between the ears and perhaps bringing in established players from other clubs has tarnished the culture. Perhaps getting a core group of young kids coming through together is what will build a stronger culture and get the side playing for one another - I don't see too much of that now.The thing is you don't need to start from a full bottom out. You're better to hire the best recruiter available and have a no top ups policy. Draft and play kids. Move on guys like Butler, Wood or others who are good enough to be in the side but not going to be on the list that plays in the next premiership. Even keep some of them for depth but have a play the kids policy. Ideally with a coach that has some structure and systems.
I think we roll the dice for one more year and see what happens. If we miss finals I think we almost implode and start again anyway.
Good move. If you want to sell something for the best price, do you tell possible purchasers that what you are desperate to get rid of the item, or do you tell all that you really want to keep it and extol its features. Points to the fact that the club want to trade Hill for the best outcome we can get.Saints on the front foot, re: Hill contract
Saints want Brad Hill to stay amid links to fourth club
Hill is contracted until the end of 2025.www.sen.com.au

Why would he stay, all we've done for the past year is play him as a medi-sub. He was solid for us in defence in 2020, so what do we do for the next 2 years? play him as a forward. I'd also want to move on if thats the treatment I'd copped.Yep same
But the season finished nearly 2 weeks ago and he hasn't signed, he will be at North imo
It’s the manner of the losses that get to me, the consistent blow out and lack of effort is a real kick in the guts because we’ve seen it all before. It hit a little harder this year when coming up against the Dees in a “Top 4” clash we got shat on. Sydney game comes to mind too. That's crazy, we've lived through a pretty successful era in the clubs history I reckon. 90's were good, 00's were great, and the last ten not so much. Not much to complain about compared to the older supporters. I think also that since the AFL's inception we've been one of the more successful sides.
I try and get to a handful of games a year and I reckon I'm a pretty s**t supporter because of it. The stuff I post on here is just usually trying to find the positives (I try and keep the pessimism off the forum) but generally I'm pretty pessimistic about it all.
At this point I would prefer we do a North and bottom out to go through a traditional rebuild - that's not to say I think we're s**t, but we're just consistently average and so to me that's still reason to rebuild. Instead of moving on established players for other established players we should stock up on picks and bring the age of the list down. There is no evidence of the way we're going about things now having worked at other clubs in the past so I am worried.

I'm also worried about our form in the second half of the year as typically your formline to end one season continues on into the start of the next. If we don't start well next year it could go downhill quickly...we don't have much time to turn it around and it will be tough because all the work over the pre-season will ultimately show us nothing because we haven't tested it against opposition - whereas if we are s**t during season we have the chance to turn that around and show the players some tangible evidence of it changing.
Media - Another team has approaches some players

Actually most people wanted him dropped in 2020. Said he wasn't reliable enough in defence and gave away too many silly free kicks. Why would he stay, all we've done for the past year is play him as a medi-sub. What messiahs though? Everyone including you wrote off hanners before he even got here....Still more of the same s**t. The hope drains a little more every year and the messiahs never seem to arrive...or if the do they drink all our wine, bang our wives and run off after draining our bank accounts.

We haven't traded for any messiahs since the mid 2000s....
You can't call Hill a messiah because he's never been a top 50 player....

so why did we pay 900k x 5 for him ? Club must of thought he was pretty specialYou can't call Hill a messiah because he's never been a top 50 player....
Because at the time it's what we needed. Unfortunately gameplans and coaches changed, that's also what he cost. Even though he hasn't been a top 50 player, he has always been one of the best wingers.Players, coaches, administrators. The all bring in new ways to s**t on us. Hill was a $900k lemon then, why the * did we pay a king's ransom and superstar money to a s**t truck that we knew was rubbish?

Kicking efficiency 18%Our contested possession numbers would be through the roof.
Watching Southampton last night .... a young supposedly inferior team beat up Chelsea was glorious ..... they absolutely hunted them down and a showed mental willingness to never give up and they didn't and probably should have won 4-1Sitting here right now I find it really difficult to see how we turn it around.
