Might have but just saying that people are pretty adamant that he's re-signed. Even if it's not true I think that he's more likely to stay than leave unless we blow him away with a huge condition free mega offer. After Hill the board probably don't approve an at all costs type of scenario.
If he had re-signed they would have announced it for sure.

How do you see it playing out, realistically it has the potential to be a monumental stuff up.
Everything has the potential to be a monumental stuff up.........or a monumental success!! Think of it as "Schrodinger's recruitment".....

I thought the dream was over on that weekend where we got pumped with another dour performance, while Degoey was playing presumably at the MCG in front of a packed house in a thrilling victory against all odds.

Aside from money, why would anyone want to leave that experience for what St Kilda offers?
MCG full house, 100,000 thousand members, the best facilities etc. He’s a fool if he walks away from that and I’d question his commitment to football.

He hasn't even got a contract offer at the moment from Collingwood so maybe he doesn't have a choice? Or he is looking for greater long term certainty eg 4 years instead of 2.

If Geelong get Grundy on a reduced contract I'll spew. Are Collingwood insane?

Why would I follow their idiot plan? You can phase the players out rather than hard cull. You can top up sensibly without going the full rug out from under your feet stuff. I wouldn't have been so reckless. Part of any side is cohesion.
So who would you have kept from the 28 delisted?
You can't have it both ways. We keep players not up to it on the list ( then complain about the list management), we get rid of spuds and get in players from other team ( and complain about it) or we go down Norths part ( and meltdown about it).
You obviously have no alternative except keep spuds on the list. You don't want players from other clubs you don't want draft picks.
So I ask again. They are the only alternatives, but you seem to not want any of these realities. So what would you have done?

Maybe he’s looking for 4/5 years and maybe he remembers trealor and is watching what’s going on with Grundy and fancies a change of scenery.

Grundy is not worth a million a year, it was stupid contract and now they need to get out of it. Anyone can have him on $700,000 so I couldn‘t care less where he ends up. Geelong can’t play them all and the mobile ruck combo has worked fairly well for them, I don’t see how he improves them to be honest.

Isn't it obvious? He'd have done what we didn't do and it would be better, stupid.

He has a committed to $$$. As do all FA's. You think Brandon Ellis went to the Suns after he won a flag because he loves the joint.
No loyalty in footy. Myth.

We can offer him 5-6 years at 800-900k a year. No reason at all that can backfire.

Insanity Going Crazy GIF
The alternative is to offer him less money for less years, in which case we don't get him. Amon is going to get 700 for 4 years and has less impact.
Or we can just stay with the same list getting the same results.

Because footy clubs can turn quickly & managers look for security of their player this is not the EPL were only a handful win each year & maybe he doesn't like the extra attention playing at Collingwood brings.

If Collingwood don't budge on two years and other clubs offer four or five, it's going to be hard for him to say no to moving. Players want to maximise earnings while they can.

Trigger contract @ 3+3 sounds better to me like the pies were offering. Ours would be significantly better coin. Gives us the option to part ways sooner rather then later if he plays up or underperforms.

3 x 900k (to get him over)
3 x 750k (thereafter)

I don't disagree but I think there will be a club prepared to give a guaranteed five years which will █████ any offer with options or conditions.

Well that’s true but 1 was a fringe player taking a superannuation package. DeGoey will make plenty at collingwood or wherever he goes.

To people questioning why JDG wouldn't come what would you take for your job : 2 years @ 650,000 or 5 years for 800,00 i know what i'd take.
If Collingwood signed they would announce it now to give the club an all mighty boost leading into finals.
They've put themselves in a corner by saying they've put off negotiations until the end of the year. It just gives every other club the chance to make offers to his manager, who will then take those offers to the Pies to get a better deal.

Some players get their big contract then dial down the effort till it's contract time again. Do you think he's professional enough to still give 100%? Is handing out 5-6 year contracts a prudent decision to begin with? I would hope the club is asking themselves these questions.

Yip, look at LIV golf - the best golfer in the world just transferred to a fringe tour for massive doll hairs.
Money talks bby.

They have signed a few in the past that blew up in there face - Roberton signed then had his heart complaint and basically was history after that but hang around for another 4 years , the same can be said about Armitage , had is best year and signed a big deal and did his back - was never the same.
Some others were blasted but worked out in the end like McKenzie.
