Losing Long now would be shit. He was tracking really well in the backline in 2020, has been thrown around absolutely everywhere since then. Wouldn't blame him for wanting to leave. The last game showed his potential again, just coming into his prime. Guarantee you Clarko would get a lot more out of him. Would be another example of our crap development.

Is that her job?? (I can’t tell if this is a joke post or not, but I’ve seen a couple of posts regarding this now).

Heard nothing but good things about Aunty, and last I checked she’s not responsible for list management.

Ryder (34 years old), Hill (potential reuniting with Clarko), Nasiah (homesick), and Long (OOC, been thrown around) all have legitimate reasons as to why they are not or may not be on our list next year. Amon almost certain offered a better contract at Hawthorn.

Don’t think we’ll lose any more then Ryder this off-season, but sure, there’s possibility some if not all go. As far as I’m concerned though it has nothing to do with being indigenous or the work of Aunty Katrina.

At most you could say that a section of our fans have been racist in their ongoing vilification of players like Hill, but, it’s not like his position in the team has been that stable anyway. I’m sure Aunty has been well earning her coin with some of the flack our indigenous players have been subjected to, but on a brighter note, we’ve really led the way in that area this season. Loved seeing the indigenous gift giving at the start of most games, and the various flags in the change rooms, and everything else that goes on behind the scenes.

Anyhow, since this is a trade thread, truly hope we keep Long and Nasiah, they could both be awesome next season and beyond. And as long as Brad Hill is on our list I’ll support him (and the coaches) to get the most out of himself.

She's not the players cultural person I believe. More the one who is teaching the non indigenous people at the club the meaning of the culture. I think we still have Allen Murray doing the stuff for the indigenous guys and we also had Lovett-Murray down at the club.

My cousin was part indigenous and he would have hated the stuff they do. He was once sent up in front of his university class to describe his "experiences" by a well meaning lecturer. He dropped out of the course. It was embarrassing and traumatic for him. He didn't know much about culture and he was made feel like he was separate from the rest.

Not all indigenous guys live in the desert and hunt kangaroos. Guys in the Tiwis live in the dominant culture and don't have the racist issues that others in places like Alice or Darwin might have. Guys that are from the stolen generations don't know anything about their culture and are quite removed from it.

A lot of these things to help make things better don't actually hit the mark. Hill and Ryder's experience might be completely different to Gresham and Lienerts. Making them go out and perform cultural stunts might actually just piss them off more than making them feel culturally valued.

lmao this thread is ******* grim considering nothing has happened and no one has requested a trade.

After a hard season the trade period is usually the final trauma for the year. You have to set yourself.

It's bullshit any way. Ratts was the coach when we took him. If we'd wanted to we could have walked. Instead we just gave up anything Bell asked for. Sad for Hill that plans change but it's like paying for an around the world holiday for two, despite going through a divorce because you didn't want to make the Travel agent sad.

That's even more unprofessional if we went through with a trade despite him not being needed, especially when we could have made Bell the issue, he gave us an out.

Ratts will be gone next year and the new coach will want a Brad Hill and we'll do it all again.
On top off that it was Ratts who wanted and pushed for Hill

I called it mid season when Jones, Clark & Billings came straight back into the team.

Give me DMac, Lienart & Long on form. There shouldnt be any automatic selections.

Once the integrity went out the window so did our form.

Yep, me too.

I will take hard working scrappers any day of the week over some so called stars.

I will co-lead the anti Ratten establishment with Gringo if we sign him. Will be counting down his days.

I'm actually keen on the idea of another inside mid but not Mitchell, he'd be on big coin and would take a decent trade. Probably a future second rounder at a minimum and probably more than that. I find it hard to believe that we have done a serious review if they are making these huge investment type calls like we are assuming that it's business was usual next year before it's even come out. What if we sign all these guys and need to step back and draft for a few years?

I guess we'll sack Gags and pretend we were thorough. I'd probably chase crouch who you assume would be just about give away.

Not what you are putting out bucko.
Back to Facebook nuffie pages for you noddy.
I will type this slowly for you.
1) we have no SC issues
2) Hill is contracted
3) North are doing all the chasing
4) Saints have said he is a required player ( even if they want to trade, they have indicated they won't give him away).

You work it out el champion. [emoji849]
You are dreaming, Muscles.

Mitchell would be a massive mistake.

Hopefully Gary is off the mark with that one.

We need to be targeting 20-22 year olds or hitting the draft

We need a really solid review into where we sit. Over estimating where your list is at is the worst thing a club can do. Hopefully Noble has a pretty decent scope in his review.

Watters has small man syndrome knew better than everybody took no advise and told a team that had just played in 3 GFs they were s**t and had not achieved anything. Coming from a club that won through drug taking recreational and performance to excess. Watters never read the room, his ego was so big he never would. He hasn't been seen of since which tells you all you need to know.
Clarkson took an underperformed team loaded it with early draft pick talent and astute trading and built a culture from the ground up and team bought in just like Ross Lyon did.
Different situation.
Had a chat with Longy at start of year really good bloke and he thought he was not in coaches best 22 and would be difficult to get a regular spot. I think if we get DeGoey Coff Clarke Wood and DMac and Hayes back he may be there again..sadly.
Much prefer him off half back than Hill provided he plays to the standard of the last game...Sincs went next level why not him?

7 spots in back line incl Bench. Wilkie Battle and Doogs talls choice of Paton Webster ss lock down defender and Sincs leaves max 2 spots between Cof Clarke et al. DMac back as defensive winger allows for a more attacking half back option.

Forward line looks even tougher. King Membrey Hayes Higgins and then Owens Billings Butler Wood Sharman and potentially DeGoey. Let alone who else we get.

Someone has to go for list improvement and if Long Hill help get us that then so be it. Hard for North with pick 1 and 55 to do much trading unless they downgrade with GCS pick 5 Rankine and 7 and get priority pick 19.

If we can turn that into 5 and late first round for Hill and Long and pick 10 then I would be happy for both clubs....as North need some older experience we need to keep refreshing and unearth more exciting talent like this year.

Bit of belief is all it takes. We were 8 and 3 and were talked about as top 4 finalists, that does not happen by chance and we were also the last team to beat Geelong. Bit more youth and recruiting and we are again thereabouts....just look at the Pies.

Watters told a few senior players who basically didn't perform when it counted, that they should do better, and considering themselves in the star category, they went and sooked to the hierarchy who found it easier to remove a raw new coach who they wouldn't get behind anyway after the shock of Lyon walking out, than to trade sacred cows. The club has a history of the tail wagging the dog, and that's one of the many reasons we have been a flop as a club for so many years. I hope the review by Noble and co goes through the club and pulls no punches.

Apparently we are keen on tom
Mitchell according to Garry Lyon
He is one we are keen on talking too.

Way to early to call it anything other than that.

Hawthorns price tag will also have a big say in it.

Rather we run with Steele, Ross, Crouch, Windhager + Owens + our first pick which would be one of a few options around our pick in Mckenzie, Hewett, Phillpiou, Szybkowski or Huswaite.

Gives us three blokes pushing 30 and three blokes pushing 20. Good for the now and future.

If we are trading guys in, shouldn't it be for a list need?

He was a pretty weird dude though. I met him when he was coaching for us and he was a bit of an odd ball. I don't know that we did our homework on him but we probably didn't do much due diligence on his. He had a bit of an abrasive demeanour from my experience.

Reading all the trade talk Collingwood and Geelong are taking all available players with their open ended salary caps and the rest of the clubs can fight over the crumbs.

To me we could get a guy like Crouch in on the cheap and have him sit in reserve for injury and realistically those kids aren't going to play 22 games in the midfield. If we rotate a few through and slip them into the HBF/ HFF type spots the rest of the time we get games into them.

It feels like we are wanting to have a bet each way and draft but not lose ground so top up as well.

Hill will be a loss of quality but potentially off set with JDG, who is a sometimes star, sometimes GOP. Mitchell would fill a hole when guys get injured but won't be cheap and won't be playing VFL.

It probably costs us development time for the kids but we probably stay up rather than step backwards. It most likely gets us playing finals even with Hill gone but then it might keep the guys like Ratts in jobs when it's not really true improvement. Just patching the holes in a leaky ship.
