I'm actually keen on the idea of another inside mid but not Mitchell, he'd be on big coin and would take a decent trade. Probably a future second rounder at a minimum and probably more than that. I find it hard to believe that we have done a serious review if they are making these huge investment type calls like we are assuming that it's business was usual next year before it's even come out. What if we sign all these guys and need to step back and draft for a few years?

I guess we'll sack Gags and pretend we were thorough. I'd probably chase crouch who you assume would be just about give away.
Inside mid

Should try Bytel in there

It wasn't one good game, he had plenty of games where he was impactful, but used as the medical sub or in different positions. He hasn't be allowed to settle and this has been to his detriment. He is one of the few players that hits hard and often. Was 'curiously' dropped after a good game (can't recall which one) and then was used as basically the 23rd player.

We can't keep losing players like Long.
Incredibly overrated player, a fringe player who fails to produce even at vfl level but somehow manages to find his way back into contention for the last few spots. It has been his best year by a mile Imo but he‘s out of contract and someone else is showing interest so don’t be surprised if he’s traded.

Imo long is exactly the type of player we can afford to trade, not first choice in any role and with several players coming back from injury and others joining the club he’ll be pushed further down the order.

The age might actually be a bonus because they should be primed just as he falls over. It's the cost that is a worry.

We are definitely in preservation mode from president to boot-studder, JDG is going to be very well off after we get through with him. If we miss finals next year, expect all kinds of staff changes. Ratts wouldn't make the year out if we look a like we can't make it and the people who made the appointment and list build would have to be in the sights too. Bassat has had his credibility smashed since taking over.
Don't think Bassat should be the only one to fall on his sword if things go pear-shaped with Ratts next year. How about the list management & recruiting team? They need to be held accountable for putting us in this situation too. Long list of stuff-ups going back 10 years.

Utterly bizarre if Connelly is desisted. His strengths are two areas we cry out for, run & carry at speed.

Hill on the other hand gives us minimal of both and has looked disinterested during parts of the year. Good decision to get on the front foot regarding him being contracted.

Brisbane's points will be interesting as ashcroft could go top 3.

As for picking off players, couple at essendon look gettable. Otherwise gws might be good to raid.

Bizarre?

He was pick 64, has been on the list three years, played 7 games and none this year. He hasn't even been named in the best for sandringham or on the verge of selection this year.

Is it really bizarre?

I tend to think we're building very nicely and think we will be very good next year. Ratts has a two year contract which he will see out and hopefully extend. Don't see how Bassat's credibility has been smashed at all.

Just catching up on the goss.

The thing with Long is he is isn’t contracted and can walk straight to north

Still needs a trade unless he walks to the preseason draft. I can’t see that happening, there’s no bad blood and we’re not talking about anything above a third rounder. Plenty of depth in this draft so I’d be happy enough with that if it happens.

Totally disagree, but that's ok, that's what this forum is for.

I really think he has not been given the opportunity to settle into one position. I would trade Butler and keep Long in that forward position.

Unfortunately with off field discipline Ben was his own worst enemy this year. Nothing drastic mind you, but wasn't ideal.

He was a pretty weird dude though. I met him when he was coaching for us and he was a bit of an odd ball. I don't know that we did our homework on him but we probably didn't do much due diligence on his. He had a bit of an abrasive demeanour from my experience.

are people forgetting how watters got royally ****ed by netters and our club?

watters came in and sold them finals with an eye of getting more players through the door. it was only once he won the gig and got into our club he was told about our salary cap dramas and that getting the players he wanted/needed was never going to happen. basically we were over the salary cap and required urgent intervention.

thats incredibly poor form by those running the club at the time. not only is it disingenuous and deceitful, it's also literally the worst thing that could happen to a 1st year coach.

i'd be absolutely ropeable if i was put in that position.

10th for contested possessions, 13th in clearances and 15th for inside 50s. Concerning given we had the likes of Steele, Crouch, Ross etc who should have no problem winning the footy.

Not overly keen on Mitchell, as others have stated he doesn’t seem to add a different look to our already vanilla midfield however I can see why the club would at least start the conversation.

Watters was absolutely over his head as a head coach.
Deserved to be given the arse.
So did the fools who appointed him.
