What about Billings?

No one wanted to trade Billings 4 years ago cos he was the only one with x-factor, now he hasn’t progressed at all and isn’t worth a bag of chips.

I like Clark, but I’m not as big on him as most in here. I think he can do really good things that most can’t, but I can’t point to a single game he has really stamped himself other than glimpses. Even Billings has had games against the dogs and Carlton where he looked elite.
He’s been in the system 5 years and still isn’t AFL level fit and looks as slow as treacle when running defensively. I don’t know him and I could be wrong but I don’t think he has it in him to take the next step. Don’t Think he’s professional enough.
Compare Clark to Sydney’s youngsters who are all quick, fit and highly skilled and dominating in a Sydney team playing in a prelim.

Might as well fold if you are just there to trade out talent, we are like a C grade GWS at that point.

Even then I wouldn't be overly happy unless it was on the higher side.

We'd just essentially be redoing what we did 5 years ago, having to put 5 years development into them and hoping they turn out better than Clark eventually.

As I said earlier, there's a reason Clarkson is chasing him. He's a talented footballer.
Put it this way… he doesn’t look like he can defend enough to play down back and in the midfield Windhager and Owens already look like they’re going to be better than Clark and they were later picks. I don’t know what the draft is like but If we can get a top 10 pick for him I’d seriously consider it.

What is the excuse you give Freo for making finals and trading out players or even the pies?

It isn’t the end of the world.

Just get fair value.

But unless you get something out of it, it's pointless. Hire some grown ups to run the footy department and then we might be able to trust the decisions that they make. The same idiots had to trade high picks for players a minute ago and now want to trade players for picks. We have ADHD as a club.

We said the same thing when Clark was younger

If we can turn Hill Clark and pick 27 into into a couple more picks between 10 and 15 (lot of pick swapping) that will give the club a great chance to add three highly rated 18 year olds up the pointy end of the draft to join last years trio and King. Combine that with the rest of our list and all of a sudden our profile is looking rather healthy moving forwards. Assuming our list management choose correctly.

I’d move on Clark for Cam Mackenzie

McKenzie doesn't look that exciting to me. He might be handy when we are in rebuild 5 in a few years after we fail to move forward.

Well Freo pushed for more than fair value because they were trading contracted players.

We should be doing the same, otherwise it's pointless letting him go.

No thanks
Billings, Dunstan, Acres, McCartin , Goddard AND CLARK were all highly rated 18 year olds

Draftees are like shiny new toys.

I agree with McKenzie. Looks a solid prospect but if I'm trading out a highly rated contracted player I'd be wanting a pick that gets in the ball park for a Cadlow.

I'd be willing to bet McKenzie makes it to our pick anyway

Hill was also a guy closer to the end not the start. It would be like trading Seb Ross or Jack Billings not Clark. You don't move a guy on just as he gets to the age where he starts to improve. He may just end up a slightly above GOP but you can't just be in a perpetual churn cycle. The best chance of us moving forward next year s if those guys like Clark, Coffield, Snags etc step forward. All are in the right age bracket to do that. Selling them off is just buying themselves time IMO.

Except Clark wasn’t keeping Tim Kelly to 4 possessions whilst getting 24 and a goal himself or keeping Neale to his lowest possession count in years. He was just showing flashes of brilliance, which he is still doing. But there’s a lot to his game that still (after 5 years) leaves a lot to be desired.

I’d love nothing more than for him to get fit and become an elite mid for us. But after 5 years of development I haven’t seen much improvement in the last 2-3 years.

He has a bit of Lachie Neale about him. Finds the ball at will and clean below the knees. Once her finds a way to even up his kick to hands ratio he will be a very handy prospect as he looks the be clean by foot.

But the point is. Is that it isn’t a guaranteed set back. You can make the trade and still move forward.

Just like Port traded out Impey and Wingard?
Just like Collingwood traded out Jayden Stephenson?
Just like Sydney let Dawson and Hewett go?
Just like Freo let Cerra go?

Wingard was already a gun player but with some issues, Impey was a GOP. Collingwood salary dumped. Cerra wanted to come home. Dawson wanted to go home. Hewett was a hardworking GOP who has been great at Carlton but they had about 3 or 4 young guys that looked better behind him. We don't have that luxury that we can dispose of superfluous talent.

Anyway, we look all-in on selling him off so I'll just accept it and tell you all I was against it when it all ****s up when the Saints choose a spud and Clark is a top player somewhere else. Probably as North jump us on the ladder.

Clark wasn't a tagger. Not sure Clark didn't look like he was going to be a star early either.

Not the experience St Kilda have had. We trade away anything we draft anyway. Might as well just swap the draft picks out for future picks every year and not bother with the drafting bit any more.

This is just trolling now. Give it a rest, stav has said a dozen times we are not selling Clark off.

He looks fine but all of them look good in the first round. Neale is the kind of guy no-one picked to come good because he was small and he's proved everyone wrong. McKenzie looks a bit vanilla to me. Doesn't do much wrong but a bit meh.

What's your opinion on us giving pick 10 was it? for Howard. I totally understood the need at the time for filling the position but i think we well and truly paid overs compared to what other clubs would do in the same situation.

Howard wasn't even in Ports defence. Was used as a forward and was dropped...

This isn't a crack at Howard, rather our list management.

Barry hall for Nick Dal Santo comes to mind.

The trade with the Hawks that unlocked the O’meara pick was a good one too.

I'm pretty sure you were calling Hewett an A grade mid a few weeks ago when people were comparing us to Carlton....
