It helps to get a player with that risk later in a rebuild. Curtin will walk into a club with a far a more optimistic vibe compared to the club McAcey walked into. Also the list demographics are now far closer to him in age group which will also help.

Both very good points

Before 2020, I would have disagreed with you.

It would need to be a big country city. Mind you Adelaide used to be like that.

Australia has changed a lot in the last 5-10 years.
I live in outskirts of Geelong. Can buy an affordable 750 squared block 4 bedroom house with country views.
Living in metro Melbourne sucks.

Moved to melbourne in 2012 its nothing special and then up to albury 4 years ago its like chalk and cheese love it up here much more relaxed lifestyle only thing i miss is not going to the footy and home games in adelaide

You could still go to the occasional game in Melbourne?
Catch the VLine?

Did any other clubs have their current captain there meeting the new draftees? I watched the Cal Twomey stream on night one and nothing on night two, so I only got a limited view but Dawson was the only one I saw.

Everyone loves living in Adelaide

pretty broad statement

I lived in Adelaide until I was 30, I still love my home town however wouldn’t move back

now living in Sydney to don’t realise how many ex Adelaide people now live in Sydney and when I travel to melbourne for work, it’s the same.

I love Adelaide but so do now love loving in a bigger and more progressive city

The biggest challenge with Curtin is that at such a young age he is already in a committed relationship.

I might get shot down but I always believe that the best scenario is for a young footballer to move interstate without the added challenges in settling in a partner, and at the age of 18 most kids lack life and relationship experience so this situation can add pressure to the go home factor.

ok so Curtin obviously would have preferred to stay in WA. Every kid would love to play in their home state with family. He's 3-4 hrs from home....Kids from lincoln would be more isolated.
His GF can stay there if she wants. He will have plenty of suitors here.
Esperance is a bit more than 3-4 hours from Perth. Closer to 8 hours. It's more like Ceduna to Adelaide, in terms of distance.

Curtins mature for his age, it's expected he have a partner, my feeling is he's more likely to be mates with Dawson than Rachelle

Ditto for me...moved to Melb in 1991....but have since moved down to St Leonard's - a smallish fishing town east of Geelong (although the developers are making an impact here too now). Love it here - Melbourne is now a sh*thole. Construction everywhere, over 5M people now (in '91 was about 3.3M, which was a good size), homeless and addicts everywhere in the city, rubbish everywhere, etc. Fortunately I only have to travel in a couple of days per week these days which makes it bearable. Only good thing about Melb is the sporting precincts.

Still somewhat shocked that we pulled a move like the Curtain one off this year.

Regardless of whether he stays long term or not, I like the aggression to improve our list, up until then it felt like we were limping through the offseason, but that really gave it a jolt! I genuinely didn't think we were going to select a player with such upside, and is also so AFL ready.

Has certainly made the offseason/preseason substantially more interesting!

I know 4 different sets of people who have all moved from Sydney to Adelaide and said they wish they had done it earlier.
Different strokes for different folks hey.

Agree
Most seem to be lamenting how our first pick was in no man's land. Feels bloody good to bring in a premium talent.

So going by that Adelaide is better than the Melb shithole

Anyone else surprised Leake wasn't really rated as highly by some clubs?
Looks like a young Rozee.

Mutineer am missing something with him?
Apparently he was Melbournes 2nd choice at pick 7

He was probably lots of clubs 2nd or 3rd choice including us

Slid a bit but nothing crazy really

He’s not as quick as a young Rozee , I’d say he’s only average regarding speed

It’s all about footy smarts and hardness with him ( and skills )

How is that the case when they took 2 players ahead of him?
