Same rule applies to this thread as other years, keep it on topic about the kids.
Don’t get bogged down on what other teams might do or where they will finish.

Trade speculation belongs here.

That's also where you can discuss your mock drafts or pick trades.

Any McCabe, Dear or Maginness talk belongs here.

Plus Jed Walter who is tied to the suns academy likely top 5. I add that as I’m hoping we are into the suns for their first pick that they likely lose for him and we can draft Archer Reid with it alongside Reid Duursma Moir Caddy depending on where we finish
I don't think Academy players can be bid on within the top 30? Only F/Ss.

Qld and NSW are exempt from this rule I'm pretty sure
Yep, Next Gen academies are the only ones affected by it. Gold Coast, Brisbane, Sydney and GWS' Academies are all unchanged. Last draft had Harry Rowston picked up from the Sydney academy in the 1st round.

Archer Reid 200cm+ tall with strong marking and work-rate around the ground. Think King brothers.
Watched him last week and he’s very impressive. Plays high CHF too, so can get up the ground quite a bit.

I’m not following the logic here I don’t believe northern academies are protected anymore (swans gws suns lions). players like Harry Rowston can be bid on at any time by any team and then the relevant team can match. For next generation academies (all other teams) they can’t match many bid inside 40. Is that wrong and if so can someone point me to the explanation for the rule?

Yeah, that's correct.

Northern Academies can match with a 20% discount at any pick, same as Father Son. Next Gen can't match at all inside the top 40.

Actually quite a few. I think it's a strong draft for key position players. The first two could go 1 if Harley Reid wasn't such a bananas prospect.

Archer Reid 200cm+ tall with strong marking and work-rate around the ground. Think King brothers.

Daniel Curtain a 196cm swing-man with fantastic aerial abilities and elite reading of the play. Reminds me of Naughton.

Logan Morris doesn't project top 5 now but his work-rate is incredible for a tall and his contested marking isn't shabby. He's listed at 190cm but I've been told he's actually around 194-195. Similar to Jezza Cameron, will win it at CHB and somehow contest at CHF in the same passage.

Nate Caddy is undersized at 191cm so projects more as a third tall. He's a very aggressive contested marking player.
Curtain is the best KPF in the draft along with Jed Walter 194. Nate Caddy 192 and Logan Morris 191 (confirmed heights) would play as a 3rd tall. Caddy huge upside with athleticism and proven midfield time in bottom age year. Morris doesn't seem to be as athletic for a 3rd tall as he tends to play deeper, testing results are nothing to be excited about either.

A question for posters who attended any first and/or second round games. Last year there was no record listing the NAB League player's numbers. At VFL games you can sometimes collect team lists at a kiosk. Can you rely on obtaining team lists at the Coates Hire League games or should I look for the teams before attending a game?

Morris may have been a deep forward last year, but Jets have pushed him to work up the ground this season. He gets involved from CHB to FF, presenting and affecting contests where his opponent just can't get to. His work rate is truly a testament to his diligence, kid works hard.

From the Age.

AFL clubs in need of key forward help have a new name to follow throughout this season, with the emergence of Central Districts target Liam Fawcett.
Fawcett finished last year strongly – kicking 14 goals in his last five under-18 games – and has picked up where he left off, including racking up 27 disposals, 14 marks and 13 score involvements, and kicking 3.4, on Saturday against South Adelaide.

The 17-year-old is a big, powerful forward whose contested marking has come on in leaps and bounds, and recruiters are also impressed with his work rate and significant improvement in the past 12 months.
Fawcett appears to thrive in pressure moments, too, slotting a game-winner from a set shot in the dying seconds against Norwood last season.

Don't rate Archer Reid, or don't consider him a KPF?
