Same rule applies to this thread as other years, keep it on topic about the kids.
Don’t get bogged down on what other teams might do or where they will finish.

Trade speculation belongs here.

That's also where you can discuss your mock drafts or pick trades.

Any McCabe, Dear or Maginness talk belongs here.

I reckon I'm all in on Duursma.

Unlike the past 2 seasons I'm not desperately hoping to pick one particular kid over another, but the skill set he offers is something we're crying out for. I can't even really land on a decent player comparison for him.

He has the elite goal kicking nous of a De Goey or Stringer type, but he's a far 'neater' looking footballer than those players. Far less rougher around the edges. Almost like a Jack Gunston with more scope for midfield minutes.

Do you know how he compares to his brother at the same age?

From what I've heard, there is top end quality in the first 15 or so picks and then it drops away. Nothing like the depth in 2001.
This is said every year! I feel clubs finally will have more to work with seeing under 16’s and under the 18’s form.

Appears there’s a few decent names missing on Cal’s AFL draft list. Which would indicate some depth to me.

hes neat & classy but looks like a really solid tackler too.

Apologies for the intrusion, but i got told last night that Hawthorn are considering a play for Xavier Duursma, and then drafting his brother with their first pick.

Would be a bold play, but one worth considering, however Hawthorn dont have many picks, and would need to head into the future drafts to find picks, but it would be a smart piece of business as port will be desperate to get back into the draft at some level.

Yes I agree but also warming to The Wizard aswell it’s a toss of the coin for me at the moment?

At this stage I am keen on

Mckercher, Watson and duursma in that order.

I think mckercher could play a high half forward role and be very dangerous around goals.

Watson has the x-factor and could bring some real dynamism to our front half.

Duursma would bring some much needed aerial and goal kicking ability. One day he could provide a mean mid rotation with Day or Newcombe off a HFF.

They're my 3, as well, although my order changes (daily)

I feel like Duursma has the highest ceiling along with Reid/Walter from the top 6. Probably also has the lowest floor of the top 6 though.

I'm still taking Harley if he is available at our pick

I'm keen on him as well, Like many I only see them through the youtube vids though. I was keen on Phillipou for a long time last year before being convinced by someone on here about MacKenzie - Good work to whoever that was, great call. Duursma looks a bit like that style of player, Hybrid can play forward and mark. Not sure if he kicks it like Phillipou but would love to see him in the Brown and Gold.

Daniel Curtin gave a dominant performance (relative to the fact that it was his first game) on his debut in the WAFL Seniors as a key defender last week. He showed his defensive capabilities, as he held up well in 1 on 1s. He probably didn't show his intercepting abilities as much as he might normally do, but he certainly showed the speed and composure that make him such a unique prospect. He also had another good performance, it seems, in Round 18 this week, with 20 disposals and 6 marks. He was my #2 prospect coming into the year and will finish it just behind Walter at #3. I think it is almost certain that either West Coast or North Melbourne will take Curtin, as both are in need of a key position player and midfielder as well as the overall best talent. That makes our selection very interesting, with McKercher probably on the board. From a positional standpoint, we don't need McKercher, as we can hardly get MacDonald and Mackenzie midfield minutes as it is. But he would add the zip that our midfield is perhaps missing. That said, I still think it has to be Watson or Duursma, even if McKercher is on the board. But it does make our choice much harder.
