Same rule applies to this thread as other years, keep it on topic about the kids.
Don’t get bogged down on what other teams might do or where they will finish.

Trade speculation belongs here.

That's also where you can discuss your mock drafts or pick trades.

Any McCabe, Dear or Maginness talk belongs here.

He's the same height as KPF prospect Jed Walter, 1 cm shorter than AA Sam Taylor, 2 cms taller than AA Steven May. His height isn't a blocker to being an AFL KPD.
Yep taller than Frosty and 1cm shorter than Blanck. Already 94Kg too. It’s hard to not see him falling into a KP role when we have the likes of scrim, Sicily, CJ, DGB as intercepting defenders

Curtin plays very similar to Jordan Dawson. In almost every way

His style of play is though. Walter is an athletic beast with his strength and speed, much like Curnow, and Taylor's one-on-one defending is superb but he uses his strength and reaction time. Curtins reactions are great, but his strength isn't a "strength" and he isn't a player who's going to out muscle and out manoeuvre his opponent. He's going to run off them when it suits him, play up the ground and back his (exceptional) workrate to cover his man. Sicily is 186cm and a gun one-on-one defender, just as May, Taylor, and Haynes in his prime where at shorter heights. That isn't what Curtin is. Funnily enough it was what Weddle was, and even then the consensus seems to be we want to play him up the ground because that's where he's really deadly. If he was 200cm with his skillset you could call him a lockdown back, but without very specific traits that only the very best key backs have it's very tough to succeed at his height and strength as a key back.

Dees very keen on Wiz, is what I'm hearing.

Lots of teams are. Small forwards at the draft can be hit or miss as sometimes their game doesn't transition to the highest level. It's an increasingly important position in modern footy.

Sure you can often find them late in the draft with a bit of luck, but rarely they are the complete player. Some are excellent creatively but deficient defensively and vice versa.

With the Wiz he's the closest to being a sure-thing plug and play 40 goal and 10-15 goal assists per season high pressure forward. Maybe not from day 1 but he will get there.

You seem to be locked in on Duursma, but if you find another top 10 pick somehow I reckon this kid is something special

Yeah he is impressive. A dursma/o’sulivan combo would be fantastic. And then mccabe late first. Would only have to look for a small forward later in the draft.

Curtin won't be a key back guys. He's the same height as DGB and frankly not as strong or as quick over 10 metres. At AFL level he's an interceptor and accumulator a la Scrimshaw. If we wanted a second KPD it's O'Sullivan or Murphy which we would be able to pick up with a pick we get from any GWS trade. That's not to say Curtin isn't a great player, he's well worth a top 3 pick, but picking him up as a key back is unrealistic.

I like the Scrimshaw comparison. Curtain would be a luxury in that role. I'd prefer we use the pick on someone else.

I think Compo rules need to change.

Only needs to be paid based on the last offer that was rejected by the player. If North value McKay at 600k for 5 yrs, then compo should be based on that.

Obviously same for other teams.

Also think WCE are bluffing and will take Curtin or Reid at 1. Maybe even Curtin if they are not able to trade for 2 with gurantee North won't pick Curtin.

In Cal's draft McCabe is at 15, Dogs FS Croft is at 11, surely their 2nd pick( Lions F1) is at risk.
The fact mackay is restricted and they have the option of forcing a trade means there should be no compensation.

Really like Curtin kicking style . Neat. He will be a kpd with the upside been that he has the traits to also win a heap of his own ball. But, I wouldn't bank on him becoming a AFL senior mid. Gets a bit of it, but not in the same way rough used to. Rough was brilliant as a receiver from stoppages and had a good 15m take off as well. Curtin, from what I've seen as a mid, is a bit messy with ball in hand, especially handballing.

He looks a typical second round calibre talent on first watch.
If he goes top 10 then it's a reflection of how shallow KP talent is in this draft.
Maybe his versatility makes him more appealing, but not to me. Avoid.

I've got him down as a Roughead clone - forward/mid if we take him.

The best 3 small forwards over the last 5 years (Breust, Cameron and Papley) were all selected in the rookie draft. Food for thought for those wanting the Wiz!
Miline and Betts also Rookie selections.

` I'm still at a loss how Breust can kick 30 goals in his rising star year and don't get a single vote.
