How convinced are we on big moose being the man when Ro finishes up? I like him but I think we could do worse than look at one of Mitch Edwards, Goad or Green at our 2nd pick if one is available.

SO sick of us using a pick 20-40 on a tallish developing key back, waiting a few years then delisting. Van Es looks good so far, unless O'Sullivan is available at our first I would rather take a monster ruck at our second than that Dawson kid. Green & Goad both look very likely types.

What’s are the odds we have gone over this footage a trillion times and convinced ourselves he is going to be this line breaking centre mid we desperately need

It's up there with that mark that Allison took one time in a training drill...one elite moment, and the moniker sticks...until they end up in the "Where are they now...and who the f*CK cares anyway" pile.
An average of 14 disposals...for a mid, playing against other kids.
That's a big fat NO from me.

I personally think Heath will be a very high level AFL ruck.

Thought the exact same thing.

Personally I think there's weaknesses in people's game you can address but I don't see how you develop demattia.

Fitness is one thing. Body strength another.

But if he's not getting enough of the ball and he's disposal is terrible. I don't see how you can fix that.
I agree, think he is a reach at 13, however if we select him, how on earth can anyone say he will just be a GOP? He is 18 for goodness sake, we won't really know for seasons.
If we pick him first, there is a reason and not from 90 seconds of highlights.

Personally I like Stevens

I see the hysteria has descended on draft time. Writing off a player who is 18 y.o and has years of development is plain ridiculous.
Who ever we take, let's not melt until all our selections are done.
Remember the melts when we selected Long at 26 and Battle at 39. In hindsight Shai Bolton was better than Long but on the night if it was reversed ( Battle @26 and Long 39 nobody would have batted an eyelid).
So if we for example picked DeMattia pick 13 then say Edwards at 21, would anyone complain?
And whoever we take, give them a chance FFS. If it's not your guy, suck it up and trust the recruiting guys.

Ah, I see the Thought Police general is out with his Kill Joy taser....pew pew.

The melts and wild speculation is what makes this place great. Let us not bathe, but instead drinketh of our bathwater, and throw out our bottles and rattles from the cot. It's a long way to March..peace will be restored by then by our idiotic optimism. This is our last moment of splenetic venting Joffa.
Let us rage against the dying of the light.

“The 18-year-old may also look to boost him numbers once he locks down a more specific role at the next level. His magnet was thrown around this year, meaning he couldn't consistently post high disposal hauls, but he's capable of it - as proven in his 30-disposal effort against Tasmania as a defender/midfielder.”

This answers my earlier question to a degree.
Less concerning that he’s demonstrated that he can accumulate.
Genuinely some great traits, including intangibles like leadership, but most importantly of all that fierce competitiveness.

Wilson looks like he has a body suited to playing midfield and can fill out. If I recall he's tested well and has an endurance base which is another check. Disposal goes ok. Can hit the scoreboard so has an offensive side to his game. But he's a purely outside player which is a red flag and a big one.

Edwards I don't quite rate as high as Wilson. He looks like he has more development but he has a marking game. Less cleaner than Wilson.

Demattia don't rate at all. Doesn't get enough of it. When he does he might as well have not got it at all. Has pace but that means absolutely nothing if he doesn't accumulate or use it well. Ordinarily this guy would be a late 2nd rounder but he's mid first contention. Shows how poor the pool is.

This draft is one of the worst I've seen in a while tbh. Probably explains why collard is creeping up the order with every day that goes past.
Omg. It’s not that depressing

DeMattia looks good to me, searing pace and booming left foot.
Truth is, there's probably not much in it between him and Wilson.
Would like to get another pick in there and get a trio of mids.

Wilson is a bit slower than DeMattia but his endurance is miles better, while also being taller, better overhead, better kick, and more scoreboard impact. Wilson is far clear over DeMattia and I would be staggered if we pass on him if available

My ideal picks:

13: Darcy Wilson
Another layer to our outside class and run which has been publicly stated as a focus by both RTB and SOS. Winger who is impressive overhead, hits the scoreboard and runs all day - the next but more attacking D-Mac IMO

21: Ollie Murphy/Wil Dawson
Wouldn't mind either at this point as both are full backs. Dawson more mature and more versatile, but Murphy higher potential and better ball use. I see many people saying they don't want another kpd, but how else are we gonna get them without paying 800k for Ratugolea?

27: Angus Hastie
This is assuming the Melbourne and Gold Coast trades get done which seems extremely likely. Hastie is the next and upgraded version of Jimmy Webster. Can lockdown (blanketed Nate Caddy in U18 champs) and intercept, and also has elite speed. Slightly unreliable kicking but that can be worked on with composure and under tuition of Sinc and Nas

77: Luke Lloyd/Nathan Philactides
Lloyd would have to undergo a massive slide to be available at the 50s, but would be a nice addition as a developing tall under Caminiti/Keeler/Sharman just in case. Otherwise, Philactides as a dynamic half back would be a nice addition to develop over the next few years with his speed and line-breaking ability

Demattia gives me Zak jones vibes. Hard at it, has serious wheels but is erratic by foot and can go missing.

Rewatching some footage of wilson, I do like him but he is very outside, like a seagull, and he doesn’t seem to love body contact which could be a worry.

I think edwards has the highest ceiling out of them all, smooth mover with good acceleration and can take a mark. But probably has the highest bust factor of the 3.

I can’t see us taking collard with our second, I’d still be happy to take Ollie Murphy there, I’m unsure why he has dramatically slipped since the season has finished.

I think we need to take a small forward with one of the picks, so hopefully a Moir, deelean, Charleston type.

I do prefer others to Demattia. His contest work isn’t up to a mids standard. Is more a handball receive mid or back pocket at the moment. Likely a back pocket in the long run imo.

Going by SOS and RTB's philosophy of "best player available", its gotta be Wilson over DeMattia & Edwards at this stage

Its Wilson for me I think he has more room for growth than Demattia.

I just had a look at the Talent League stats Wilson averaged 25 touches & DeMattia 18 per game.
