just back on the gather round... dangerous idea incoming

Why not just pool all the double up games and play them at neutral venues and think of it as multiple gather rounds. One round in QLD, NSW VIC, SA, WA, maybe Tas or NT?

Not great for home fans but good for growing the game

Front on tackles. My dad said aim for the belly button with your shoulder(it may wind them too). Arms around the top of the legs. Keep you head to the side of the body. When you make contact, drive with your legs.
Obviously there are many other angles to tackle and techniques to employ.
True, but in either rugby the ball carrier is mostly running towards you for you to execute that tackle.
The side on tackle where you bury your shoulder into the floating rib with arm around the chest and arm, head behind, can really hurt too.
The tackle from behind is more like a standard AFL tackle, wrapping up the arms and dragging down.
But the notion of bringing in a part time tackling coach from league in particular, like the wrestling coach, is a very good one. Much to be learnt.
The other blokes who tackle really hard are Mills, Wicks and Cunningham. 🤔

AFL.com reporting that Mason Wood is now “… the best wingman in the AFL ….”

Can’t believe we passed (in 5 consecutive years) on the best outside mid in the AFL. Shocking list management.

(post-script: irony-laden post above. Those taking it seriously need a Bex and a good lie down).

Yep. My point is that it is a skill to be taught. And it may be a point of difference. There does not seem to be a focus on it. I think it is a part of the game that has been neglected by coaching. Swans could be first movers in this regard. I'm sure it has been done before. But has teaching proper tackling technique been done to the extent that it can make consistent effects on games. I don't think so. Like I said before, maybe its an opportunity.

Ball security looks very different on a rugby field compared to AFL too. If you could hit like a rugby player it would certainly provide an intimidation factor in AFL

caesar88 - what the frack is in the water over there - are they all mad?

Yes. Yes they are.

Look at that tackle Oliver does on Parker.
Both square on. Oliver squares up. Gets on his heels. Parker jinks left and Clayton slings him.
Crap technique.
A front on driving tackle was the play there.
He was lucky .

Here to see the Crows skipper train

I look forward to hearing how he is the greatest player to ever play the game and how we are idiots for letting him go, how none of our players will ever get close to being as good as him and how the crows will win a premiership before us because we are mentally soft weaklings. Sorry, wrong person. Carry on.

It's funny how many in the media are now coming out saying we got stiffed in that trade when we were all screaming that at the time.

Was gonna say whoever coached St Kilda last year must feel a right knob right about now.
But they are sitting at the same 5-1 they were last year.
