What are your thoughts about will ashcroft and Harry sheezel for rising star? Their stats are fairly similar, with sheezel having a higher overall rating (more disposals / marks) but ashcroft hitting the scoreboard a little more frequently.

Imo it's difficult to separate them really, sheezel may be leading somewhat, but he's a good player in a poor team, while ashcroft is contributing really well in a stronger midfield.

Wonder if we'll see the first rising star tie (unless there's been one before?)

So here's a random thought I had today. Our depth is a problem, but looking around the league, a lot of teams have the same issue. Given the size of the competition now with 18 teams, there is a struggle to keep depth up as there are only so many good players across the country at any one time. Bringing in a 19th team (and don't get me wrong, I want Tassie in) will stretch this further.

There could be some serious issues in skill levels over the next ten years unless the AFL looks at this properly. Otherwise the rich clubs will be able to bring in talent easier, and equalisation will be out the window. Also, different cities will be better destinations, and I don't see Sydney being the top of the list.

Just a general thought.

Sean Darcy reported to be in negotiations with Geelong.

Nope, the WA press is in a bit of a lather over it.

It’s the old “he’s a required player” situation (noting he’s contracted through 2024) with his manager saying “we expect him to be playing for Fremantle next year”, but the media reporting he’s in discussions with Geelong.

Freo supporters evidently have nothing to worry about.

A bit behind but I just realised we have a new neighbour. For as long as I can remember we lived next to St Kilda and the Western Bulldgos but now Tasmania has muscled its way in and we live next to St Kilda and Tasmania now. I hope Tasmania does not play loud music, have out of control kids or do burnouts on the road.

Have a strong feeling Tassie come in but it stays a 18 team comp....

The introduction of the Suns and Giants put an enormous strain on the talent pool.
Also COVID saw clubs trim lists and that has put extra strain on teams lists.

The extra teams has spread the talent thinly. Conversely you could argue that it’s given more kids a chance to play.

It used to be 1 or 2 bad teams at the bottom of the table. Now we have 3 who struggle to be competitive this year. That isn't solely because of a talent available though.

One new team shouldn’t have the same impact as when the Suns and Giants came in but it will shrink the talent pool further.

This is a pretty cool insight into the magpies facilities. This shows the importance of the swans new HQ allowing us to have another resource in attracting players.

Interesting assessment of the Blues, even with a wealth of talent in the midfield.

I wonder what our assessment would be.

According to Champion Data, Carlton has a kick rating of -2.7 per cent going inside-50 this season. It ranks No.14 in the competition and is ahead of only St Kilda (-2.8 per cent), Richmond (-3.6), North Melbourne (-3.9) and Hawthorn (-4.9).
'Kick rating' is a Champion Data tool that measures the difference between a player's expected hit rate and actual hit rate. A negative kick rate, in this instance, indicates a player not executing kicks as well as the competition average.
Furthermore, of the 13 Blues players to have had at least 15 kicks going inside-50 this season, only five have a positive kick rating. They are Ed Curnow (+18.7 per cent), Charlie Curnow (+7.5), Jack Silvagni (+6.5), Matt Kennedy (+4.9) and Blake Acres (+4).

Eight have a negative kick rating. They are Adam Cerra (-0.6 per cent), Adam Saad (-2.5), Patrick Cripps (-2.5), George Hewett (-6), Ollie Hollands (-7), Harry McKay (-8), Sam Walsh (-9.2) and Nic Newman (-12).
Slow movement and an inability to use the footy effectively when they do go forward makes the job of a key forward difficult. But when an opposition backline knows exactly where you're kicking it as well, that task gets even harder.
