Do you have a link to the article? I can't find anything on Google or the AFL website. Not doubting you, just trying to find the article you referenced.
From the article below:

"For instance, it would have allowed Adelaide to list one of Rory Sloane or Taylor Walker as a veteran for 2024 and opened up another spot on their primary list. The idea was designed to keep veterans in the game without sacrificing a list spot that a youngster may have taken, with the veteran’s full payments still counted in the salary cap."

There's a link in the post above

It is a bit disappointing that we don’t seem to have targeted many or any fringe players that have shown a bit and might have a chance at being best 22 with us

If you can’t land a big name, then that’s the next best way of potentially improving the list short-term

Not many spots available for dice rolling.

I don't really see how a player going after and obtaining the best contract they can is them being "weak minded". Surely "weak minded" would be accepting less when a better offer is on the table?

As for being "entitled", if they weren't worth the contracts they demand, clubs wouldn't offer them.

If we felt he was worth keeping, it was up to us to make him an offer compelling enough to keep him here - and that includes tangibles like length and dollar figure, and intangibles like when and how we present it to him. Often the latter is the difference, making someone feel wanted, or that they have a place in the side, or they have better business or lifestyle opportunities, etc.

And if we got outbid, then either we didn't rate him as highly as someone else, or we didn't go hard enough to keep him. Plain and simple.

Or we presented poorly. I can see this leadership becoming arrogant, not to Pyke/Burton levels, but enough to turn players.

Our feral friends weakness this year, apart from Hinkley, were lack of ruck depth and lack of quality tall defenders. They managed to fix both areas in only one trading period....btw these two areas are also our areas of weakness (and midfield).

Now we have the Facebook sycophant's trying to tell us that Ratug and Zerk are fringe players despite playing 16 and 18 games respectively with Ratu being in all Australian contention up until mid-year. If they're classing these guys as fringe how the hell do they rate Burgess.

I reckon they need a firing Wines as a stoppage mainstay. At least come September.

So assuming we take picks 10, 14 and 20 to the draft we will have 14
first round draft picks in our squad.

I can’t recall how long it’s been since we had that many players picked in the first round on our list.

Cook
Fogarty
Jones
Milera
Michalanney
McHenry
Pedlar
Rachele
Rankine
Smith
Thilthorpe
10
14
20
Cook was 25. Was that first round?

I think people use the terms LTI and Inactive interchangeably.

It's an interesting question when we really think Schoenberg will come back. He may be out all year, but we may also not want him without a recovery goal.

My gut feel is that the injury/inactive lists cease to exist outside of a season. It’s only purpose is determining whether you have a spot available to draft in the MSD. But I’ve nothing to support this view.

Reid on 5aa this arvo, Borlase will be on the list, just working out how. Next year will be free agents/trade focused.

Everyone hear that, that’s their objective. Now we can measure them again.

It’s not hard to work out, they need to delist contracted players and pick them up in the rookie draft if they haven’t been taken ahead of us. The only question is which players. And based on numbers mentioned, to use 20 and upgrade Borlase, we’ll need 2 spots cleared. Sloane is the only player that we can guarantee won’t be taken ahead of us. Any others have some risk attached, but of the 3 mentioned by Vader, Cook is the one I’d not delist as his ceiling is unknown and it could come back to bite. Whereas I think by now we know where Sholl and Hamill max out at. So Sloane and one of them.

Agreed, no way you’re delisting Cook, someone could take him. He also would become an unrestricted free agent on his next contract, so if he comes good we could lose him.

Let’s see if Sloane is team first.

It'll be Hamill first. Hard to see anyone wanting to pick him up with his concussion history.

I think it would take more than that, more of a mutual benefit situation rather than us coming to you for unders. 10 is 14 after bid matching and I think Crows will be top 2-3 clubs in terms of ladder rises 2024. Would take 14 as well. Assuming ladder positions hold (not really an easier way to estimate finishing position) and factoring bids:

ADEL OUT: 9 (F1), 14, 19
IN: 1 (F1)

For context if you offered us pick 9, 14 and 19 this year for pick 1 I’m pretty confident it would be a no from us. It depends on your risk aversion and how highly you rate Draper. I was hoping our clubs would talk and H Edwards or Rotham maybe have been of use to you with Doedee out the door and could have opened up a move for Himmelberg for draft capital.
No, we wouldn't do that.

I think 10 and a pick swap for next year would be the limit.

I got the feeling they were still exploring if borlase could stay a cat b rookie next year and that would solve that prolem

Maybe the Crows had some good fortune in Melbourne taking Clayton Oliver off the table.
