Do you have a link to the article? I can't find anything on Google or the AFL website. Not doubting you, just trying to find the article you referenced.
From the article below:

"For instance, it would have allowed Adelaide to list one of Rory Sloane or Taylor Walker as a veteran for 2024 and opened up another spot on their primary list. The idea was designed to keep veterans in the game without sacrificing a list spot that a youngster may have taken, with the veteran’s full payments still counted in the salary cap."

Billy will never look like SOS under any circumstances!

We have never given Berg a decent run in defence to properly judge him there.
I personally think he would be a disaster. Sluggish, lacks intensity and certainly not overly athletic (speed and agility). No reason not to give it a crack though in pre season but just cant see it working

Would be shocked if we take those picks to the draft

I wonder on the night if we could get 8 and 25 off Cats for 10 and 14 ASSUMING the player is there at 8 but unlikely to make 10. 25 gets Moir or the local ruck project. Cats would jump at that deal I imagine as points heavily in their favour and we could even likely push to extract a pick upgrade for next year (F2 IN, F3 OUT).

Overall, lots of options now but we need to upgrade 24 picks, not diminish in any deal unless getting right at the pointy end (top 3 or 4) which seems almost impossible

It’s not hard to work out, they need to delist contracted players and pick them up in the rookie draft if they haven’t been taken ahead of us. The only question is which players. And based on numbers mentioned, to use 20 and upgrade Borlase, we’ll need 2 spots cleared. Sloane is the only player that we can guarantee won’t be taken ahead of us. Any others have some risk attached, but of the 3 mentioned by Vader, Cook is the one I’d not delist as his ceiling is unknown and it could come back to bite. Whereas I think by now we know where Sholl and Hamill max out at. So Sloane and one of them.

What I don't get is the message from many in the media was it was a no brainer to sign Sloane as we weren't tight for list spots.

I am sure we can make it work but we clearly are.

Only way any head recruiter would put in a bid on another club's F/S/Academy lad is if he was at the top of their individual draft board. No club is that petty especially with the chance they may end up with a player if the other club doesn't match.

Furthermore, you're just pissing off another team.

Another team you may want to trade with in the future...

I doubt even a flag three-peat would unite this board!
Some posters want continuous improvement others are happy to go with the status quo

And yet we still ended up with a D. 🤷‍♀️

As we should have. Just because we did alright with the cards we were dealt doesn't excuse the fact it was a bad hand.

After all, this was a club that needed another A-grade player and, for whatever reason, didn't get it.

Don't think Cook was a first rounder at 25 - but you could count Dawson as that's what we paid for him. We've lost three other first rounders for next season with Hately, Doedee and McAsey

2020 draft was low-key ****ed with how many F/S and academy players there were. First round ended up blowing out to pick 27-28.

There's some real average players on our list currently, or players with low prospects.

Murphy
Hamill
Sloane
McHenry
Himmelberg
Sholl
Strachan
I agree that this list is not the premiership team we're hoping for. But when required, they all make suitable depth and will play their role if required. In AFC terms, these guys have enough experience to not s*** the bed when called up.

My query is more aimed at the selection of some players and not others who appear more proficient. But of course...there's 10,000 posts on here about that already.

Fingers crossed we at least nail the draft.

Yes... as imo he was the player who best met our needs & wasn't going to cost us much in the way of picks.

We have oodles of cap space.

Our issue is we are the 2nd most inexperienced team.
Last year we played some good footy for the first time in years. Our inexperience killed us last year IMO. However, we're year older which is positive other than Tex.

Hold the faith....we're coming. But Mel said it best...

Extremely good outcome but can't see O'Sullivan on the board at that point unless teams rate Ollie Murphy above him...I certainly don't.
My boy Caleb Windsor is on the whip ....marking his way up the rankings, and now starting to get the plaudits he deserves

The industry is too small for feelings to impact.

Ultimately there are no such things as "trading relationships" or whatever, more every team is actively trying to screw each other over.
