Mod notice after Mr Bob did a lot of annoying work in moving days of posts out of here. As we are heading into offseason, this thread is for 2023 list management only. Getting upset on previous trades can be taken to the vent thread. Lets keep this thread on track in the part of the year it's actually relevant

So if you replace the word beguiling with charming in the sentences:

"JOM is the most disappointing for mine. The fact they pushed Brodie out to fit him in is the most charming thing of the whole situation."

The two sentences seem to be saying two contradictory things (the first negative, the second positive if tainted with some faint deception) about how you feel about the situation, or at the very least they are two unlikely bedfellows for adjectives being applied to the one situation being described.

It is like the following prose:

"The fire in her chest burnt anew. It froze her heart diamond hard, dulling the slightest murmuring as he strode into her room."

It is fun but it is also non-sensical.
I think they meant 'bemusing', but rather than take the obvious option of saying 'yes that's what I actually meant Mr nit picking idiot' they went for doubling down instead.

I would seriously consider shipping JOM off to GWS if they are still interested, Young and Johnson have already surpassed him and he has 3 years left to wallow at Peel or keep Brodie/Erasmus out of the first 22.

JOM To GWS?? Lol he wouldn’t get a sniff of a game in their midfield!
Would be a permanent VFL player at GWS

I am not looking forward to having to cram in Fyfe, JOM, Brodie and Erasmus next year.

It's also possible that the offer for a player like Cox is too high to beat and he will absolutely go end of 2024 but there is zero interest from Adelaide or Port to pay the price in trade Freo would want this off season

I’m guessing there would be more than a little interest seeming both teams would be wanting to go deep into the finals next year.

The JOM bashing on this thread is unbelievable it’s hardly his fault he played the role better then Brodie & Erasmus.

He will be valuable if Brodie & Erasmus step up next year as he can also be dangerous up forward & if they move young into midfield full time he could also go to half back.

Think the fact it is versatile helps him get picked over the other 2. Where does Brodie & Erasmus go if they aren’t in the middle?

I agree with most of the JOM defence here, but while Brodie defo lacks versatility, the same cannot be said for Raz. Played fwd until his draft year and played like 60% wing this year (as ill advised as most on this board, including myself, see that as a long-term plan).

You could play Jaeger as a Mr Fix It who's just plugged in where you need him (which is basically what he did when Young moved into midfield), but that kinda treads on Aish's role. He could play more mid-fwd or fwd-mid, but you'd first need to change our 8 fwd set-up and/or other aspects of our fairly rigid set-up this year.

For most of the season, we rolled with like 6-7 defenders, 8 fwds (including the 2nd ruck and Switta), Aish running utility, 3 basically full-time inside mids + a ruck, usually at least 1 specialist winger, and then those last couple spots are where there was a touch of freedom (often Raz and/or Johnson taking a spot, a few games of Fyfe, etc). If that set-up persists in 2024, once again most of those remaining couple spots for flexibility will probably be taken by Raz and Johnson, as the club would want to get games into them and I'm not sure either will be ready to take a completely specialist role next year (this could change with big pre-seasons).

Agreed - Honestly getting tired of reading the bashing of JOM and it is all his fault that Brodie got pushed out yada yada

Brodie fell away this year plain and simple. He got dropped and worked his way back on top of a great game at WAFL. Then fell away again. Not because of JOM. He also had an untimely ankle injury just after the bye and there were more than a couple of occasions where he would have been in selection frame but not for his ankle injury.

The coach even came out and back him after a reasonably mediocre game (by Brodie’s stds) in the WAFL. He said that Brodie had been working on parts of his game but his ankle prevented him from doing that in that particular WAFL game. After playing a full game clearly hampered he then missed two weeks.

As for Raz - he is a work in progress. I’m a big fan of him as many would know but he is taking a little time to adjust. His disposal this year as compared to last year is much improved. I watched a lot of Peel and I remember one game where he was being tagged and didn’t get a lot of the ball but I remember in that game some very nice i50’s, where others incl. Henry couldn’t hit up targets. I also remember a game against Perth very early in the season. A player tagged him so closely he was being scragged and held off the ball. Umpires just ignoring this and he didn’t get angry or frustrated just persisted. Wasn’t happy when he handed the ball back to the umpire but no dissent.

Back to Brodie. He needs a big Pre-season. Further improve his running capacity which isn’t good and get back to hunting the ball. As for JOM he and the coaching staff need to work on continuing to best mould him into the team which will certainly involve some inside clearance work. Fyfe also same situation. Many players take a season to adjust to a new club. In saying that I thought JOM played many decent games. His big body used effectively to clear space for our other younger mids.

Brodie managed to play a full season with Mundy in the team who by the end of the season was certainly tapering away and didn’t have great deal of accountability or speed which people have said is a problem with JOM.

Clarko in WA to meet with Hamling?
He will be watching Hamling at the WAFL GF. And scouting Darcy and potentially every other Docker and Eagle, but officially he is here to watch Curtin and speak. He is a sneaky dude on the prowl. Don't trust him. Players, turn off your phones and lock up your WAGS. Cut off the angles. 🤨

North Melbourne boss Alastair Clarkson has bounced into Perth for a spot of window shopping, labelling WA boy Daniel Curtin a “talent” as the Kangaroos assess their draft plans.
The four-time premiership-winning coach was spotted at Perth airport on Thursday, in town for a speaking opportunity as a part of WAFL grand final day, giving him the chance to run the microscope over the potential top-5 draft prospect.
Curtin will run out in the Colts decider for Claremont against Perth after the senior side was eliminated in the semifinal against Subiaco

Additionally, if one of the leading experts in the field invites you to lunch/dinner, even if you have no interest in them poaching you, you still say yes out of respect.

Plus Darcy isn't going to say no to a free feed.

I tried looking through their last 20 pages or so and there is nothing in there that is convincing. Then again, Dees fans would probably have said the same about Hogan for all those years.
I’m not worried. Adelaide get as many defenders as we do forwards. They are destined to miss out again and continue with their unbalanced list for awhile longer. I’d be more worried if they were into Treacy or Shooter.

North fans on social media are up and about big time over the prospect of getting Sean Darcy.

  • Future first
  • Pick 11 - gets freo back in the draft
  • Second round pick and a player

Just some of the trade prices suggested by them.

If the worst club in AFL history managed to swan over here and prize out a contracted 25 yo KPP best and fairest winner from this club, well then what is that point in the club even existing anymore?
Surely this is all bullshit?

For its faults, BF does weed out the majority of absolute nuffies. Imagine having likely pick 2 and 3 and thinking there was any scenario you could get a contracted Darcy without losing at least one of them

I'd literally rather die than play for those ****wits
I dunno don't you think it would help our cause? I would certainly choose to play for the Eagles if forced to choose between that and death. I mean I'm only 5'9", early middle aged, at least 5 kgs overweight, bad right achillies, bad left calf.. It wouldn't help their run at all.

Hypothetically what would our first demand be if Darcy indicated he would prefer to go home now rather resign or the end of next year? Pick 2 and their future first (F2 back)? Would we ultimately settle on pick 2 outright?

You'd need more than just pick 2.

pick 2 won't get you a ruck replacement, so will need more currency to find a stop-gap.

I'd be telling them that due to their copious amounts of AFL handouts, if they want us t do their development for them, for the second year in a row, pick two and future first. Maybe we throw something in the third round back.

Or, they give hamling a deal to generate an end of first round compo pick, and we'll take pick 3 and their future first with a second going back.

Pick 2 & 3 and they can have 13 when we get it for Henry.
