Atm we have picks 10,60,66 & 84…

So we don’t have much to offer up for any amount of points packaged up in a deal swap atm, certain clubs with multiple firsts are sometimes your only chance as well as a club/s with a highly rated father/son which a points package normally works out better in their favour…

Obviously a lot changes by the time the trade period then national draft comes along, clubs can get very creative provided they have the right chips & collateral to provide for all parties to be happy…

What happened to the 3rd rounder?

Imagine, if you will, going through your whole school life 100% convinced that you are the smartest kid in the school.

Despite getting average results in every exam and all the other kids telling you that a fair percentage of the things that you say are wrong.

In spite of this said example will be prepared to go to the grave believing that they know more than everyone else, including people who are paid as experts in their field.

I wonder what that would feel like?
Not bad at all. I highly recommend it.

Hold on...

Buddy, you just made a completely laughable point that had zero regard for my opinion on anyone and anything, all while puffing your chest out in the most high school way possible.

You inserted yourself because you felt you could kick someone around while getting some attention. It's sad, log off. Engage in the discussion or be genuinely funny, don't give me the nuff nuff version of amateur stand-up.

Imagine heckling when you can't even follow the discussion properly. Yikes
I inserted myself because people like yourself try to use pseudo-science nonsense regarding players running gaits and rubbish about their kicking mechanics to make cases for delisting, trading and demoting them regardless of if they've proven to be quality contributors, all based on a bunch of nothing.

Dane Swan had a terrible running gait and an awkward kicking action yet was one of the best players in the competition for half a decade. Josh Kennedy and Matt Priddis were slow for the entirety of their careers yet were pretty handy by most calculations... Even our own Tractor Matty Kruezer was a clunky lanky mess by any measures of the eye... yet he was an absolute gun when healthy. With any digging I'm sure it would be easy to name close to 50 similar cases.

If you criticise a players form based on what they actually produce on field I highly doubt anyone would have much issue with ur points... But when you refer back to their bio mechanics it's just laughable. Buddy Franklin probably wouldn't have gotten a game if you were in charge because he kicks around the corner and doesn't have a perfect running stride.

Restore my post without the final comment then, which was a fair critique on the heavy-handed rhetoric and obtuse commentary made in the post I was replying to.
No, you can post without having a crack at how the place is moderated.

Don’t get shitty that we take action because you can’t help yourself.

Not bothering with repeating myself.

It's not even a secondary reasoning to what I'm discussing here, that's just the strange little thing you're latching onto because you don't seem to understand what's being discussed.

You brought up gait, not me... this has absolutely nothing to do with me.

That being said, you've just named a bunch of players who struggled with groin issues. Hmm.

I'm directly pointing at their output, then their athleticism and injury rate, and later on maybe trying to explain some of that through biomechanics. No player is going to rise and fall purely on the back of them, but they might explain things they need to work in terms of physical progress or reduce injury rate.

These later statements are just posturing, and reflect absolutely none of my takes on any of these players. If you think I would have dismissed Franklin for using his hip and glute when making long kicks, you've clearly not read anything I've had to say about Liam Jones' long kicks, or any discussion involving the phrase 'goalkeeper'.

Notice how I'm not making a raft of assumptions about you? Try it out!

And yet every club does it. Name just one club without a decidedly average ruck on their books in 2023 - I don't think you can.

He was flying early in 2022, not surprisingly so were we.

Him being #1 ruck when both he and TDK have been in the team has largely reflected the pecking order at that point in time. Despite being the far superior athlete, TDK has not yet been able to overtake Pittonet.

That may change in 2023 but it's a completely separate discussion.

So don't engage in them. But if you put something out there that people disagree with, they're not going to hold back just because you're tired of the discussion.

It also wasn't a discussion about his quality, you're shifting the goal posts there in a big way. Not once have I said he's anything above average, just that he has been (and IMO still is) our #1 ruck, and we're not going from that to without a contract in the matter of months.

Show me where I said that. Might I suggest you've just hit the very definition of delusional by suggesting that I have?

Absolutely, nowhere have I suggested otherwise.

Was made available to me again:

- Every club has an average ruck on their books, but zero commentary about the first ruck or first ruck battle, or ruck duty split, etc... so that's a dumb goalpoast shift that has nothing to do with my argument

- Commentary on TDK vs Pittonet when I'm suggesting neither should be our #1 ruck long term on historical and current evidence

- Don't engage, when I'm getting quoted by 5 people every time who keep making the same point, with no new commentary, no new evidence, and ignore any developing arguments in opposition to theirs? Like right now? Yup, uhuh, got it.

- I'm goal post shifting, when that's been my entire point for years?? That's the whole point of at least trying to play TDK instead, to try and accelerate to a better outcome, probably with a different system of play

- You want him to meet the same requirements I want from him to have a new contract, but you also think he's a certainty for a new contract just because he's #1 right now? I don't know what to tell you, aside from you're never going to see real improvement with that kind of stubbornly obtuse thinking

- You're suggesting otherwise right here, in this thread, by stating that we do not move on from him, when we've got 3 young rucks in the books

Your post was just a thinly veiled jab that kept calling me out, please leave me be until you're prepared to examine the concept of getting/developing a better first ruck option.
You'd think over the next few years the following OOC players would be under immense pressure to
1. Keep their list spot or
2. Cement a spot in our best team... Just to Clarify (Likely to get re-signed, but on the border of being overtaken and becoming just depth player)

2023
Keep a List Spot

Marchbank, Cuningham, Akeui, E.Curnow, Honey, Fogarty, Dow & Philp

Cement a Spot
Kemp & Silvagni

2024
Keep a List Spot

Mirkov, Carroll & Owies

Cement a Spot
Martin, O'Brien, Boyd & Cottrell
Can't help but feel you're going hard on Silvagni and O'Brien for no reason, particularly Jack.

Think you've got Carroll and one of O'Brien and Cottrell in the wrong spot.

Keen to see how much more improvement both LOB and Cotters have.

Not sold on either being best 22 in a premiership team but you do need your 23-30ish ranked foot soldiers who can regularly carry a load to get you there.

.if Jack Martin is healthy he's best 22 all day. But the question is can you carry someone likely to play 10-15 games a season?
Martin is freakishly good when not injured ( I’d say in the top 20 of the comp good) but he seems to be in cruise mode all the time. Someone (Vossy) needs to sit him down and say if he doesn’t give us 100% each week, his spot is up for grabs, instead of him being gifted a spot every week.

Didnt realise we had so many players OOC this year, especially so many of them with question marks and yet to establish themselves as best 22 players.

Definitely gone at end of year
  • Ed Curnow
  • Lachie Fogarty

Probably gone
  • Cunningham
  • Akuei

Need to have big years to get a contract,
  • Kemp
  • Dow
  • Marchbank, just needs to stay fit
  • Philp

Possible Trade/ Choosing to leave
  • TDK, personally i think he establishes himself in the side and wants to be around, will sign for much less than is offered elsewhere but think he stays.
  • JSOS, this is the interesting one, is a RFA and if our offer to him is insulting I can see him exploring his options.

Stays
  • Motlop, sign him up for life, kid will be a star
  • Honey, prob a 1 year extension, if he plays 10+ games maybe 2.
  • Plowman, 1 year deal
  • Young, 3 year deal
  • Pittonet, if he finishes the year as #1 ruck then give him 3 years, if he is 2nd choice a 1 year extension.
  • McGovern, he owes us and should sign on significantly less coin.
  • Newman, 1 year deal
  • Doch, Bleeds blue
  • Durdin, hopefully establishes himself in the best 22

Definitely agree Martin needs to be read the riot act about the security of his spot in the team but there is no way his best is “top 20 in the comp good”….and the stats back it up…in an 8 year career he has never made an all Australian team or squad.

At this stage in his career he is what is he is which IMO is “a good slightly above average footballer who’s body and mind aren’t strong enough to consistently play at very high level in this league”. Once you accept this then you can probably appreciate he still has a contribution to make to this team.

Martin at his best is a walk up best 22, unfortunately he hasn’t produced anywhere near enough the consistency needed since his arrival at the club, recurring soft tissue injuries every year hasn’t helped either…
Frustrating player like a few others, who with a consistent run of form and injury free would make a big difference…
