Darcy would be too expensive for that type of ruckman
Most likely, but it would be interesting to see what his price would be given the Jackson deal is clearly intertwined with his position at the club.

That being said I don't think I'd trade for him with the role players and draft crop this available this year. Not the right time

I can see kemp having a good year of development in VFL/maybe some AFL and requesting a trade.. with a full pre season new start probably surprise a few people at carlton ..
surely durdin and cincotta stay --
Aku
I'd be very disappointed if we lost Kemp. I think he's going to end up a good player and have long dismayed the sight of Plowman ahead of him. Don't reckon he's really disappointed in his appearances at AFL level either, just hasn't had luck go his way it seems.

Crazy to think the Dees could take the chocolates again this year and end up with a top 5 pick in a ridiculously stacked draft. Zane Duursma, Watson, Moir... That will hurt Freo and AFL fans alike to see if any of them end up in Dees colours come end of year.

All for Freo capitulating but if they could lift enough to get the Dees out of the top 5 that would be lovely.

You reckon we should have cut them pre-ACLs?
Or post ACLs?

Pre ACL Marchbank, Post ACL Cunningham.

Marchbank
2015 - 5 games (knee and shoulder issues (GWS)
2016 - 2 games (continuing serious knee and shoulder issues (GWS)

Hence we get a v highly touted key position no 6 draft pick for only a handful of pick swaps and salary dumps 2 yrs into his career because of injury concerns from GWS. (That right there is a significant red flag)

2017 - 16 games - His first yr at Carlton (best season) before hairline fractures in his shoulder in July finished it. Came back for a few toward the end.

2018 - 12 games for the season ankle & shoulder issues interrupting that season

2019 - 13 games then fractured vertebrae in july rest of the season out.

2020 - 0 games, missed entire season due to bone bruising in the knee

2021 - 0 games, coming back via VFL from bone bruising ruptures his acl. Season out

2022 - 4 games. Returns rnd 13 from ACL, 1st game back - meniscus tear 2 months out 4 games back end of season.

2023 - 0 games - Calf, no timeline of return

GWS saw the writing on the wall after 2 years we have persisted for 7 yrs. For no return as yet.

The ACL was just a compound of an existing mulriple seasons old form line in terms of injury.

When in that time line would you have drawn the line, or are you still comfortable waiting for something to change. Given 30 of those 40 games were in the first 2 years.

Cunningham much the same but would give him the benefit of the doubt re ACL. Only for it to turn into a 2.5 yr ordeal and haven't seen him since.

Both talents however the cold hard light of day would illustrate their bodies were not and will not handle AFL. That is a lot of resources, time and 2 list spots for 7 odd seasons coming into the 8th that has left us at the starting line. Can't have it if we are to continue building a finals capable list.

Better in the Dees’ hands than Freo. Capitulate away.

Though MFC is still to lock away K.Pickett.

Working through our OOC list it’s plausible we see quite a few changes at the end of the year but of course this needs to be tempered by what we can bring in to fill the list.

Players heading for delisting: Dow, Fogarty, Plowman, Marchbank, Cunners, Philp, Honey.

Players heading for retirement: Ed.

Players heading for an extension: McGovern, TDK, Newman, JSOS, Motlop, Pitto.

Players in limbo: Kemp, S Durdin, Cincotta, Akuei.

Of course we could see players who we’d like to contract leave - such as McGovern or TDK.
We could delist all 7 of those players with zero impact to our best 22. They are already giving us nothing and even green players have the potential to blossom.

He's workmanlike. Got tidied up by English last night which was instrumental in the outcome.

Hardly AA.
Darcy had 53 hit outs, 12 possessions and kicked a goal.. Sure English was good but hardly horrific from Darcy, and a sh1te load better than our 2 would give us.

Teams with ruckmen like Darcy/Pittonet win more flags than those with the theoretical unicorn types.

2022 Geelong - Rhys Stanley (used to be quite athletic but now isn't much)
2021 Melbourne - Gawn, probably the only exception to the list. Even he is most effective at marking and tap work, though, rather than the extra midfielder type.
Richmond (x3) - Nankervis
2018 West Coast (Naitanui injured) - Scott Lycett
2016 Western Bulldogs - Jordan Roughead
Hawthorn (x3) - David Hale (x2) & Max Bailey
2012 Sydney - Shane Mumford
2011 Geelong - Brad Ottens

Of that whole list of premiers only 1 could arguably be the prototype athletic ruckman, but like I said there his best contribution is when doing the ruckman things the best. They could lose his other skills and still not be impacted all that much.

We see the same thing with our own ruckmen, our plodding, not very skilled ruckman contributes far, far more than our super athletic, quick and exciting ruckman to wins.

English got towelled in the ruck, did less around the stoppage but provided more around the ground.
Much like the Pitt/TDK discussion, it comes down to what you want from your ruckmen.

I want taps to advantage - him busting bodies taking marks around the ground and kicking a goal here or there .. I'd take the mullet from essendon can't believe I said that 🤦🏻‍♂️

Tend to agree, although is only recently that the athletic ruck has become a thing, prob hasn’t been a good one since Adam Goodes. However when our midfield is firing we are clearance strong, to do that we need first possession and a ruck that can feed our mids is critical.. prob the annoying thing is this has been an obvious flaw in our list for min 3 years yet we have done sfa about it.

if TDK leaves it frees up about $500k we would have spent on him, lose Dow and Jack Martin, Fogarty, Plowman & March and then offering $800k to Darcy seems viable.
