Review 2023 National Draft Review Thread II [McKercher, Z.Duursma, Goad, W.Dawson, Hardeman, Maley]

Given nothing will happen between now and most likely, a few weeks, I'd like to propose a cathartic release.

What was the draft call you made at the time, that makes you look back and cringe?

Seeing Kade Stewart as an 16yo and thinking he would be a 200 game AFL player for me

Was about to post something more mirthful but the player who I thought would be a future star based on his U18 GF was Jordan Barham. He ended up on Port and St Kilda rookie lists.

Went to look him up and sadly learnt he passed away in a road accident last year :(.

Pick 3, or two of Watto, Curtin, Osullivan, Caddy?

3 into 6 & 11.
11 & 18 into 8.

2, 6, 8, 15, 17.

Edit. Caught up on prev. Posts, SOUUP is all for Duursma.
This looks good. I think we should split three if we aren't chasing Reid and aren't madly into Duursma. Fair chance we get the same player at 6 as we would take at 3.

Really like this kid.....i can't get Fyfe out of my head when you watch him move.

He looks mint. And does it at both ends. Will be a top 10 smokey I reckon. I hope not, but I doubt he's there at our current picks.

His ball use is actually pretty good. I think one person says his ball use is a little hit n miss and then people jump on that. His highlights package is pretty impressive. It’s his defensive craft that needs work. But he has been a mid all throughout his junior’s. I actually think with his speed and long kick he’s more suited to a wing rotating thru HB.
Just what I've seen from full games. I would say it's inconsistent. He can hit some lazers that you go wow and then other times there are some real clangers under very little pressure when you just have to hit those targets, a bit similar to Goater in some ways. He's a good athlete, a bit one-sided, needs to work on his composure as well as the defensive craft as you said. We could certainly use that kind of pace in the side but I worry he's a Rye Penny or Caleb Poulter. Anyway, we'll see how highly he's rate on draft night.

After about 12 minutes of YouTube clips I thought Connor Blakely was on the smoothest movers out of a contest.
Its funny, you must have seen the only ones where he didn't kick it

Interesting that Cripps the Port List Manager, when asked the top 5, didn't say it was his order but said Reid, Walter, Duursma, Watson and McKercher. Reckoned the top 8 was elite and then drops off a bit, not as much depth as previous years, but did mention you can find the gems in the 20-40 range in hindsight like every draft.

Including Picks 72 & 112?

To the draft watchers who does he compare with from the previous drafts?
Souup roos_fanatic08 Sphynx

I was thinking Jarrod Berry, plays multiple positions, strong overhead and good athleticism. Not elite in any categories, but very good in all.
Looks better by foot than Berry though.

The bloke who arguably cost the Lions a flag through his brain fade when he collected Sidebottom late in that marking contest on the wing, leading to the 50 metre penalty and in the hands of one of the best pressure shots for goal in the caper. Oh well.

More looking to find out who he compares with from underage footy.

i just wasted 20 minutes of my life responding to them on another website.

i will never learn.
They are a special bunch the WC dudes...very over confident and on very good terms with themselves. There's a couple of realists there, but even then there is an underlying self belief that we should pay the farm.
I have tried to point out that we have pick 2, so they are not talking about pick 4 - 6 or whatever, but the very next bloke who I actually still believe is the bloke they want.
We gave up, essentially, 2 pick 1's last year, for 2, 3 and 14(now 15)......but they want that haul for a single pick 1.....and there's no talking sense into them

Right-o, I found one of these in a shop and I looked deeply into it...

The vision was cloudy.

There was a faint glimpse of something but it faded away quickly.

Brady is giving nothing away. Not even beezlebub himself or the Lord's of the occult can give any indication of whether we really want Reid or McKercher.
Looking into the crystal ball I conclude Brady is either out shopping for a new blouse or he's going to recruit that guy from Trailer Park Boys

Did you know they are a rich club?
