Sometimes people who make a lot of mistakes, learn from it and make things right end up being better than people who get it right the first time. Here's hoping Michael Voss fits that category.

We have gone from a team who was afraid to go into the middle of the ground, kicked around the boundary and moved the ball incredibly slow to a team that goes up the middle, plays with freedom and confidence and moves the ball extremely quickly. We have flipped the way we play the game on it's head.

When you change how you play the game, all of a sudden some players go from battlers to good players. There is no doubt a lot of our players are better footballers in this style of footy.

We have gone from slow to fast and we were too fast and too good for a second placed Port Adelaide, something that has not been the case for a lot of this season.

Loving the brand of footy we are playing. We are defending with our legs and not with zones and numbers. We are tackling, applying elite pressure, intercepting and playing aggressive fast moving footy. It's giving players a chance to use their athleticism and skills and it's excellent to watch. Credit to our coaching staff for getting this right and righting their wrongs.

We have put together a team that is quick, skilled and plays aggressive footy. We look like one of the better teams in the AFL. It sucks how we got this season wrong and are having to climb our way up from the bottom but IMO at the moment we are as good as anyone. We need to prove it but IMO the change of game plan and moving towards players who are quicker. I know we have the list, we just have to get this right.

Lots of fast legs, high midfield rotations. Yep this is where it's at.

Docherty - He loves this sort of footy. Loves to run and carry and play as an aggressive defender/winger.

Cripps - Even Cripps is loving this footy, he is doing his best to emulate an outside player. His outside game has never looked so good. We aren't heavily relying on him and he's playing some really top shelf footy.

Acres - Gee he was good. He was everywhere, he was running with the footy he was contesting and just showing the quality he brings. He's an elite wingman and that's why we chased him.

Walsh - Walsh has gone from an accumulator with no hurt factor to a running carrying midfield who has elite hurt factor. Nothing better than watching him running forward with ball in hand. His kicking was also very good.

Newman - I didn't think he could play any better than he has but he's proven me wrong. Excellent game. Genuine day out.

McGovern - He's an elite footballer who is finally getting a run with his body. Having someone who is that size and that quick with a footy brain down there is super important for our team. He's the perfect modern day defender. Tall, fast athletic with footy skills. Loved his game.

Silvagni - Probably his best ever game. Another who is loving how we are playing. When he marks overhead he is a much higher level of player and he did that. All round game was really good.

Hewett - He didn't star but didn't have to. Filled in for Kennedy and crashed and bashed and made a contest in there. Solid game, played his role which helps the team succeed.

Cerra - Didn't star as he has been and didn't have to, just played his role. Love his tackling. Genuinely good footballer.

Dow - Surely he has proven he can play AFL footy. I've been banging on about him being the missing piece and that he should be in the side as a forward who goes into the middle and gives us some burst and some run. He did that and he did it well. Started half forward, made good position, wasn't used as much as he should have been, then that third quarter where he went into the middle and gave us some burst was awesome. Having extra mids as we do allows us to keep the intensity up and run out games and not just win but win big. Walsh, Cerra or one of the main mids get tired, Dow is in the team, they can have a rest, Dow comes in for them and kills it like this, we just keep our dominance going, they come back from their rest and kill it and we run over teams. I don't know how long I have been calling for this to happen but Dow is the missing link to beating the better teams and keeping the midfield rotations high while maintaining midfield quality and burst speed. Dow was good, he will get better if he's allowed to settle into the team. What I have been banging on about for so long, we got to see it. Fogarty and Cuningham give us rotations but Dow gives us a rotation who can go in there and dominate the clearances as he did in that third quarter.

Curnow - This was Wayne Carey at his best. He looks like him and he plays like him and he was unstoppable like Carey was at his best. Curnow is a generational talent, he's scary good. What a sight it is to see a team going up the middle, fast with a dominant CHF playing true CHF. It looked like 90's footy.

Cuningham - Really liked his game. Genuine half forwards game. Speed, overhead and a midfield rotation.

Saad - Plays a really great game, he's an elite defender with elite speed.

DeKoning - Ok he's matured. He's now playing top AFL footy. One of his best games, he's marking it, rucking well and he's doing the around the ground stuff. The guy has just hit AFL maturity. We need to get him signed up some how. Even if it's a 6 year contract, get it done.

Cincotta - Really like him in the team. Tough, fast, good user, good defender.

Boyd - Becoming one of my favorites. He's that tough fast one on one defender that suites the modern game so well.

Fogarty - Just playing a role and doing it well. IMO has earned another contract. Not sure he is best 22 but he's good and fits our new game plan.

Weitering - Has his strength back and is loving the pressure we are applying. He was awesome. Monstered his opponant.

Motlop - wasn't in the team, ended up playing his best ever game. He was good. That run in the VFL did him wonders. Another who will love playing forward in a team that moves it fast and direct now.

Kemp - Like McGovern he's a gem. That tall fast athletic defender is exactly what the modern game demands. He had a good battle on a quality young opponant who was much taller.

Cottrell - He's another who just suites modern footy with his leg speed and endurance. Growing as a player. Quality skills. Quiet game but quality game.

Martin - Another who was quiet but quality. He just genuinely has so much talent.

McKay - Damn, injuries don't help.

Young was actually stiff to be dropped. Has battled manfully in the ruck the last couple of weeks. Don't particularly like him in defence however.
Maybe he could be an option to replace Harry in the coming weeks as we will need either him or TDK up there you would think.
It was tongue in cheekโ€ฆ I agree, heโ€™s showed improvement the last couple of weeks.

The back pedalling in the Voss thread is borderline embarrassing.
I wasn't in the 'sack Voss' camp, but I did believe he wasn't getting the best out of the players. Or a different view
should be have been that the players wern't getting the best out of themselves. I would like to know the improvement
over the past month due to coaching moves / selections or is it down to player ownership of their own performances ?

it's all in their heads, always has been..........20 years of ungood things can't be shrugged off in a few seasons............

Four wins in a row by 50+ points โ€ฆ.. Reckon thereโ€™s a dvd box set in the making.
there's a production company in linton street moorabbin that can help us with that...........

This is one of those straight to the pool room type of games where in the past I would have bought a VHS Copy from Name a Game and enjoyed watching it several times during the week.
Most of our wins I mostly just watch the abridged half hour presentation on Kayo, but definitely going to watch the whole game on replay.

Still have goose bumps remembering how good the boys and crowd was last night at Marvel, high fiving stangers on the way out of the venue, loved it !

Definitely a top 5 game I have ever seen us play at Marvel, definitely the most memorable since we finally beat Hawthorn for the first in over a decade under Bolton and ended the Hawks finals hopes that year !

Combine all four and it might be our winning margin next week.

Crunched the numbers.

First time in our history that we've won 4 games in a row by 50+ points.

Beat West Coast by 50, and it'll be the third time ever a team has won 5 consecutive games by 50+ points (Geelong with 5 in 2008 and Geelong again with 6 in 1989).

Fair turnaround.

Playing catch up after a footy reunion yesterday.

JSOS: IMO quite comfortably his best game for the club. Competed, got himself in the right spots & was rewarded for it. Well done Jack.

Charlie: played an unselfish role & was able to hit the scoreboard as the game wore on. Games like this one create confidence in additional avenues to goal & reduce the need for the two primary targets to kick bags to get the side over the line.

Motlop: I'll admit to being slightly disappointed with his output to date but he made the most of his opportunities when they presented themselves. If he keeps the workrate up, there's a bit to be excited about.

Most importantly, the team is competing.
Defenders are prioritising shutting out an opponent.
Players are hunting man & ball with intent, the beauty is that it's being driven by the Fogartys every bit as much as Walsh, Cerra etc.

Will be happy with a 1 point win. Its a danger game if even one of our team starts thinking that way.

Re-sign him now Carlton!

I will admit I have been on the SOS isnโ€™t best 22 and wouldnโ€™t say no to trading him at the end of the year bandwagon and then he produces something like that yesterday and you see there is a real player there. Yesterdays performance has definitely turned me right around on the subject.

I thought TDK did some awesome things yesterday. He always has a great highlights package and yesterday it was his ferocious tackling that is etched in my memory.

However, the numbers say that statiscitcally he broke even with Lycett. TDK had a couple more touches, clearances & tackles, but he's finished with a lower hitout to advantage %, and Port (just) won clearances. Unless you are Max Gawn having 30 touches a game with huge influence around the ground, the primary measure of success for a tap ruckman is to impact clearance. We didn't get that impact from TDK yesterday.

I know TDK's still a work in progress.. but at this point in his career I would expect him to torch Lycett who has struggled to keep his spot at Port. And if that's not happening at clearance then he should be using his athleticism to punish a plodder like Lycett around the ground.
Another case of 'lies, damned lies and statistics'. TDK bathed Lycett, Even Jsos was a better ruckman. I don't give two figs for meaningless stats, I care only about the results, and the result was we easily won the ruck battle to my eye.

Getting ones hand to the ball first is not the be all and end all of ruck play.
