Even Wemby is not generational..one of the most exciting talents to enter the NBA draft but placing the tag of generational on any rookie is really stupid in my opinion...a few rings, all NBA, MVP's and then place that tag but right now, he's just an exciting 7'4 wunderkid as they say in soccer.

Fair enough when judging someone at the end of their career, but for the purposes of assessing draft prospects the point I am making is there are truly generational traits that should be considered. And Reid while looking a great prospect, does not look like a generational prospect.

As to whether Wemby lives up to the generational tag is TBC. But the unique traits he brings as a prospect are generational.

If we end up with a free rookie list spot and Jeremy Sharp doesn't get taken by either of the WA sides, I'd give him a crack on our rookie list.

His VFL season was fantastic, avg's 21.4 disposals, 8 marks and kicked 12 goals. He'd keep the pressure on Stephens and Scott to perform on their wings.
We will have a spare rookie spot or 2
Have 7 spots to fill and 6 national draft picks (likely to use 5)

Another point to the Harley Reid deal or no deal nonsense is that if the siren had sounded half a second earlier in that Freo game back in round 2, then we'd almost certainly* have pick 1.

*Assuming the butterfly effect of losing or drawing that game didn't change any other results for the rest of the season.

I would make the pick 2 and a future first trade. On the proviso Clarkson corners them all and says ‘you little spoilt fukcers lost 20 games in a row, and when it mattered the most, you coughed it up. My hawks game, Cunnington and Ziebell’s last game, Ratts Saints game and his final game… nothing. So that’s why we’re going on this death ride.’

While he may not be a generational player it would be nice to get him for the marketing side of things...
If we are burning a bunch of 1st rounders for a marketing sugar hit that can't be followed up with on field then we might as well hand the license back to the AFL.

We're talking about draft prospects here. If you waited for the MVPs you wouldn't make much of a recruiter.

Nah, the pick 1's have so much pressure placed on them it's ridiculous. I'd rather just retain 2 & 3.

Can you imagine the pressure on him at WC.
They have not much youth, older more popular players retired, no traded players coming in. He will be the main focus and most talked about WA player since Ben Cousins.

How valuable are picks in the late teens usually considered to be? I know this draft is meant to be shallow, but to me two teen picks seems very valuable, a lot more worth than trading up one spot.

Yeah but if l was recruiter l wouldn't be using the 'term' generational on any draft prospect because it's unfair to label him with that tag when it's not deserved!

For comparison the average height in the NBA is about 1.98cm.

That's fair. Recruiters generally downplay the prospects they like and leave it to journalists to hype them up. Nothing wrong with draft watchers calling someone generational but it is way overused and should only be put on kids that show athleticism and performances that either break records long held or show dominance in junior competitions not seen in the last two decades (give or take).

Yeah kinda agree but l really hate when they are just labelled generational as it works two ways with the fanbase - FMD he must be good or GTFOH, he's done nothing he might be a dud.
And as we start seeing in this thread, fans are already rubbishing him for that tag so imagine if we did nab him?

Anyway, l think Harley is a unique talent in this draft and he'll have less pressure at NM as No.1 than he would at WC...ol' 18yo Sheez has set a pretty high bar for a 'generational' talent to surpass in his first year;)
