I don’t think GWS are interested in losing Kelly, personally. They paid him not once but twice in light of our interest.

Not sure they have major cap issues with their outgoings the last two years.
Particularly if HH goes.

They’d get rid of Haynes or Whitfield before Josh Kelly.

we should be targeting a whitfield salary dump, still only 28

haynes a year older and has injury issues i'd avoid at all costs

port will have JHF join that rich list next year when his draft deal is over and his big money 800k deal kicks in

Precisely.

Also the top few teams as shown in the data.
Ok, I read it as top few of ladder position.

The rich list stops at $550k per year for the 100th player. So I reckon you'd find most teams are spending close to half the cap on 20-25% of their players. Take Geelong as an example. 5 players on $550 means they're over the $5 mil mark for their top 8 players.

Salary cap doesn't exist for the top 5.

It won't for Collingwood again soon.

Agree its unlikely. I just meant it as a thought experiment. Not as a prediction.

But just on your second point, lets take that list as a guide:

Coniglio - 950k
Greene - 950k
Whitfield - 950k
Haynes - 950k
Kelly - 900k
Himmelberg - 800k
Taylor - 800k

That's still close to half their salary cap taken up by 7 players. The report goes on to say that Kelly's contract will exceed $1m a year in the coming years.

Hard to see how that doesn't constitute a cap issue, particularly if they finish in the bottom third of the ladder this year and don't look like they'll be contending soon.

Liam Henry - "North Melbourne and the Western Bulldogs could be in the mix" - Twomey
out of contract at the end of the yearyeah?
What's he gonna cost us?
He'd be a good get.

Easier to see how when you come to terms with GWS not having a salary cap.

Remember when they were challenging and had Cameron...well that didn't stop them from signing up Coniglio and Kelly to big deals. Roll out some new Ambassador payments.

The AFL needs Gold Coast and GWS to start having more success.

Port are in a very, very good spot.

Would definitely add the speed we greatly need on the wing with the ability to go forward. Wonder what his tank is like?
Could he become a Lewis Jetta type of player with his mix of traits? That’s probably the peak of his potential.

Is this "could be in the mix" like, we could potentially consider thinking about exploring the possibility of delving into a discussion around the vagaries of weighing up whether or not we go down the path of questioning ourselves around developing an interest in Henry based on entirely nothing but the usual AFL media "spin-two-wheels-one-labelled-player-X-the-other-labelled-club-Y-then-write-an-article-on-the-result" trash? Or is there a little more substance behind it
