I love this time of year, when anyone who has even a vague connection to someone at the club pipes up to say we're interested in all in Sunbury, only for us to wind up with a one-legged butcher from truganina and a failed carpenter from the northern suburbs.

Of course, that's not to say I still don't enjoy this time of year and am praying some of these posts come true
My father was a butcher!
He’s been to Trugania
He knows of Christian Pettracca !
We are signing Pettracca!

Think we should go hard at Sean Darcy 25yo good ruck
Nah. As Jay-Z once famously sang, we have 99 problems but a ruck ain't one that is as much a concern as basically all the other positions on the ground except for medium forward. I think that was the quote.

Quite simply don't think we can afford to look blokes like Melican, Fisher and Menegola in the mouth

Menegola would just churn up and down a wing for a season or two, instantly becoming one of our better four quarter runners and ensuring it's not just Bailey busting his arse every week

Fisher would make our half back line look quicker and better skilled than it currently is, as well as adding in a left footer that isn't Luke McDonald

Melican is a meat shield but in the absence of a 29 year old Daniel Curtin or Griffin Logue with two intact ACLs, he'll do for a few seasons

If we think those blokes aren't cracking our best 44 we are kidding ourselves. Absolutely kidding ourselves
In for the "Meat Shield!" Does it come with a side of Bottom Text?

Stephens & Fisher definitely help our running capacity which has been a serious issue for years. Both are still young enough that there is plenty of upside if we get it right too. I wouldn’t be giving up picks inside the top 30 for either of them though.

I’d definitely look at picking up Jeremy Sharp too, but I’m pretty certain he is west coast bound.

Left field option, who was very ordinary tonight, but id be asking the question of Nik Cox at Essendon.

They have absolutely torched him over there. Playing him in all areas of the ground. He is 200cm. He should be playing in the backline. Let him develop in one position and see him flourish.

He genuinely needs a fresh start already.

How short are you to be looking fisher in the mouth

I don't mind some of these trade targets.

Given we're looking at delisting/trading/retiring seemingly 10+ players, it makes sense to trade in mature players who can play a role, are already seasoned & match fit. More likely to make us stronger than somebody drafted with a pick in the 50s/60s

So long as they don't cost us too much in draft capital. That's key.

Is Haynes still good? If so I don't mind taking on his salary for a year or two if he's a good mentor to the young fellas. We need some leadership in our defense and someone to replace Jack.

If we do draft Curtin, we can't expose him on his own until Logue gets back. He'll need someone else down back who knows what they are doing to show him the way.

We may be able to find someone who can do that equally well for less than $1.1m though.

Depends what you mean by much... individually they won't but if getting 4-5 in then need 4-5 2nd or 3rd rders... so not sure where these are coming from as yet as only have the one third rd and no 2nd

Flanders would be Ports you would think, then Henry and stephens are both top ten picks so might push for late firsts. Fisher is a hard one as he is contracted but they did want him out so that would be a third but May player harder now given form over past couple

Kaine Baldwin. On the main board it states he’s not happy at *.

The smart money would suggest he’s exactly what we would desire. Smart money aka old mate lol

We have two third rounders and a fourth this year.
I reckon Carlton will want futures for Fisher to help with next years f/s.
If there’s anything to the Haynes rumour, surely we get something there too.

Who's Haynes, and why done want him?
If he's anything like the great Desmond Haynes, get him in :)

Twelve months ago I thought he was cooked but he’s been better this year.

He could still do a job, particularly in our excuse for a backline.

I don’t think that Baldwin would make a good key defender. He’s only 193, very slow and concussions are a red flag.
There would be better options out there for us to consider.
Like the idea of Melican. He’s in the right age bracket and would be serviceable. Good one on one.
Won’t cost us anything either.
As Clarko said, we can have the best midfield but if we don’t address our key defensive stocks we will leak goals. Needs to be our focus this off season.

37 players since 2020, a chance to bring up our 50 if we can get a few willing to join us at seasons end.

That's ****ed fyi, I wonder the league average is.
Similar numbers since 2016 too.

Your argument against Baldwin though is contradictory given Melican is also 193 plus not the quickest either...

Melicans. Baldwins. I have an Upside Down Cross at the ready for Rawling if any of these recruits materialise. Wouldn’t we be better off giving McKay want he wants? After all we signed Simpkin to 2069 so why now are we being frugal with our $$$? :stern look

Purely because there is pick 2 up for grabs.... Im happy enough to keep him too

Think what you want about McKay but he is the best key defender we have. Sure with ball in hand he can be a bit dicey but he is our best intercept mark. As our midfield improves he will become more important. In a better side he will be even more valuable than what he is now. If McKay leaves the NMFC then our backline will look like absolute shit next season. That’s unless we have an adequate replacement coming in. And those adequate replacements aren’t Melicans and Baldwins. I’ll give youse all the tip right now. :stern look

Baldwin would be valuable because he can play at either end. But Melican has shown more are as a defender - I think people who have watched him would say.
