Whatever Melbourne can try to do to get GC pick#4 we can counter with a better deal if we want to...
What would our Port pick around #16 and our F1 or F2 give GC capital to bid on Jed Walter...l have heard that next years draft picks are not as strong as this years...

The general feel around next year is that there are a bucket load of midfielders at the top and next to no top level key position players.

Josh Smillie is my pick for number 1 at the minute, 194cm midfielder, potential to keep growing, moves extremely well for his size and I like his stoppage craft. The legitimate big body in the Green/Cripps mould and next season will be his 3rd at Coates League level. Has ability to play other positions but would be silly not to use this guy in the middle.

Jagga Smith I believe will have the Daicos/Ashcroft type year for Oakleigh, as he will finish school this year, a full year in the Coates League, just an absolutely elite accumulator and runner - averages 30+ touches as a 17 year old and already the main man in Oakleigh’s midfield.

Finn O’Sullivan is the most talented though, just an absolute natural footballer. Looks like a kid but he just has a heap of tools. I love his agility, reminds me of Walsh how he weaves around and stops on a dime.

There are plenty more mids that will come in to discussion - but those are the 3 now. I do think that for 1 McKercher this year, there’s probably 3+ of that type next year, compared to no Watson or Curtin or O’Sullivan type at the top, which is a bit of a reservation but things can change quickly. I think we might see another Cadman situation next year where the teams needing a KPP are going to move up to get them early.

Big year for Vic Metro

Should absolutely run through the carnival. They even have one of the better key position players in O’Farrell. South Australia stands in their way though - Draper & Hargrave a great duo in midfield, Welsh an elite key forward.

:(

If it's a mids draft next year it might not be a bad idea to try to weave our F1 back into this one. I understand the argument to keep our picks but our entire midfield is essentially top 5-10 draft picks anyway, if anyone could afford to do it, it's us.

I think next years top 5 will be better than this years top 5. Outside of McKercher, Reid and Sanders there are no proven mids in this years top 10. You already have 7-8 elite midfield prospects who have consistently performed at under 18's and championships level. These underage kids were often holding their own against the players mentioned above.

The only thing that looks a little bit concerning about next year is the lack of obvious KP talent. But plenty of KP's announce themselves in their draft year anyway so it's a bit early to be concerned about that.

At this early stage this is my top 6 for next year:

1. Finn O'Sullivan
2. Josh Smillie
3. Jagga Smith
4. Sid Draper
5. Tyler Welsh (Key Forward F/S)
6. Levi Ashcroft

I saw this post, thought to myself, 'Yeah let's be aggressive and trade out our F1'

Can you please make my mind up for me?

Best time to trade our f1 is now.
Get a top 10 pick.
Next year is midfielders and we don't really need more.
Lots of talls and positional players for us now.

4 reasons why I wouldn't:

1. I'm not entirely sold on this years top 10.

2. In all likelihood, we will be bottom 4/6 again next year. Ideally, you time future F1 trading with your surge up the ladder, so that you are trading future picks in that 10-18 range rather than the top 5-6. I think that's where you get best bang for your buck.

3. It hinders our ability to trade at the end of 2023 (In the event that an A grader nominates us).

4. In all likelihood we are going to have at least 3 first rounders this year, that's a solid enough injection of talent.

I'm tipping 6-8
Oh that's a big call or is that 6-8 wins? lol

Not much in the bottom eight should be overly daunting, and a couple of finals sides aren't all that flash.
I think we will go hard during the trade period. Also love that a player like Phillips could be on the market.
Time to be aggressive, good sides trade players without fear, we don't.

When you think of all the very good footballers who were traded out of the club in the early 90s, it stands to reason that we will have to be prepared to lose some favourite sons on our way to the top.

I really find that hard to believe.

Well I’m one of the more negative posters and not easily swayed.

I think we will bring in some decent experienced support.
And another pre season for our younger crew.
Amd I’m not overly impressed by the current standard of afl football.
I don’t see that improving anytime soon either.
We will see I suppose.

Think clubs could be wary of our finishing position in 2024.

Won't be bottom four imo.

I think we'll continue to improve but it hinges pretty heavily on how we cover the loss of McKay.

I think a best case scenario might be 6 wins which still has us in the bottom 4.
