When Carlton only has picks 5, 61, 69 & 79, can’t see them just sending out their first pick with a salary dump. Maybe a swap of their first and the Port pick, with a lower level of salary included, which could still be worthwhile.

Pity we don't have a 2nd rounder to bait them with actually.

They might've been tempted to overpay in futures to get more of a midrange presence this year.

The nearest option would be to float the Poorta pick for Carlton's 2024 F1 and F2.

I’d do it, but not sure Freo would.

Only 24, but question mark on his durability is a negative.

We need to think about it soon, because with Goldy at the end and question marks on Xerri and Coleman-Jones a shithouse ruck, we don’t want to waste that midfield talent we have accumulated because our ruckman is s**t.
Darcy for Port's pick (15-19)... I would do that everyday of the week if Freo lost their mind and agreed and twice on Sunday.

This guy's father is a premiership hero at North Melbourne.

And somehow, the AFL's Sydney franchise, had rights to him.....???

How does that work?

Robbed !!!
He developed through the Swans academy. If they hadn’t put the time in he probably wouldn’t even know what football is and would have been lost to the game.
That’s it, isn’t it AFL?

These kids, Wards, Shezz, Phillips want to play in the guts of the game. Dropping cunners and LDU getting injured gave them the chance and I don't think we have seen three players as driven at north in a long time. Three at the same time omfg!! I would put Powell in with them in that he wants the midfield time but now he sits back in the pack and is lost. Scott and maybe Ford look like taking the wings. Would not be suprised if we trade him or he requests a trade. Wins are not important so I would give him mid minutes, increase trade value and trade for a speedy backman to replace Hall and Ziebs. Lets not end up like GWS having to dump salary as we have two first rounders in next year.

There's next to nobody gettable I'd part with a first rounder for. That includes any cute pick sliding.
id happily give the port pick for lachie ash and probably Bergman but to a lesser extent

other than that agree

hunter clark id give a future second rounder for as an alternative to the above

I would have a go at him. Is 26, oozes leadership and class. Didn’t think we had any chance, however you would think a contender wouldn’t be interested as out for majority of 2024.

Upside is enormous for a rebuilding club, on and off the field.

It really is completly insane what this list managment tread wants? You want everything but will not give up anything? Yes we give up the Port pick for something, get another 25 year old not a 18 year. Lets move quick.

Arden St elephant in the room

North Melbourne defender Ben McKay had one of his best games of the season on Sunday night as he and the club consider a new agreement.

McKay’s form has been up and down this year, but he hit back hard against Essendon keeping Bomber Sam Weideman goalless.

Rival clubs are expecting McKay to seriously consider departing North at season’s end if Port Adelaide maintains its strong interest in the back half of the season.

Port wants to bolster its back half and have kept a close eye on the Roos’ full-back.

If they signed McKay on a deal worth more than $800,000 a year, North would receive first-round draft pick compensation which is currently pegged at pick three.

McKay has conceded 20 goals to opposition forwards for the season, according to Champion Data.

Weideman had only four disposals and two marks on Sunday night as McKay racked up 18 touches, 14 intercept possessions and 10 marks in the Bombers’ last-gasp victory at Marvel Stadium.

Are there more Jack Bowes loopholes out there?

The outrageous situation that saw Geelong securing pick 7 and Jack Bowes to absorb $1.6 million in cap space had some industry figures asking if a similar loophole was available in free agency.

Could a club like North Melbourne offer to pay up to $200,000 a year of McKay’s $800,000 salary at Port Adelaide in the next five seasons to guarantee them first-round free agency compensation?

After all, the league is looking at new-age “pick purchasing”, where a club effectively buys a high draft pick off another club by taking on some of their salary cap.

Under that scenario, a club like North Melbourne with millions in cap space might secure Collingwood’s first pick in the draft for $500,000 of cap space over a certain number of years.

But the league made clear on Tuesday that clubs could not pay for departing free agents _ maximising the free agency compensation - because they were not contributing to existing deals.

The league said clubs could only contribute to the contract of a previously contracted player for the duration of their existing deal.

So clubs considering letting free agents go will have to await the annual compensation lottery and perhaps come up with the kind of finely orchestrated deals that saw Essendon secure first-round compensation for the departing Joe Daniher.

Wait a minute - Port want Ben but they don't want to pay full price? What a joke.

I'm sure they can get a Geelong Jack Steven media narrative going too, that he should be let go cheaply for his own mental health.

Only to quietly delist him when it doesn't work out.

Elephants should be on the ground as part of pre match where they belong.

I think * should have a crack at Darcy Parish. Looks like a real * type and Brad can assign himself Band 1 compensation for poaching his own player.

*. We have two elephants in the room according to this weeks media narrative. First one being Ratten and the second being McKay

Happy to offload mckay for pick 3.
Plenty of good key defenders in the draft ans trade periods to cover the loss. We just never pick them
