I think Cunnington is more likely to depart than Ziebell.

Also think Drury will stay on, however agree with vast majority of this.

Possibly but Cunnington currently has a contract. So he'd have to agree to retirement terms.

Agree Ziebell could go either way but we may want to start getting games into long term defensive flankers.

Whilst Drury has shown a little bit, they're not breaking their necks to re-sign or keep him in the seniors. Wonder if the judgement will be fairly swift on players under this regime, based on Young and Dawson being frozen to Siberia from the get-go.

What I think will happen with out of contract players:

Bonar, Aiden
Comben, Charlie
Dawson, Kallan R
Drury, Blake R
Edwards, Jacob R

Free, Hamish R
Goldstein, Todd
Greenwood, Hugh
Hall, Aaron
Howe, Daniel
Mahony, Jack

McKay, Ben
Perez, Flynn
Shiels, Liam
Spicer, Phoenix
Turner, Kayne
Young, Lachie R
Ziebell, Jack

Meaning these are the guys offered 2024+ deals:

Comben, Charlie
Free, Hamish R
Goldstein, Todd (50/50)
Greenwood, Hugh
McKay, Ben (expect he'll reject and take up FA)
Perez, Flynn
Spicer, Phoenix

Those changes would lead to 4x senior spots and 6x rookie spots being opened up.

Assume Shiels will move to an off-field role.

These are predictions, not preferences.

But I think we may repeat 2020 and performer another deep list cut. But this time using picks (probably futures) and FA options to rebalance the list. Reckon this time next year our height issues will have been resolved for quantity, if not quality.

I think mostly bang on. Rumours Greenwood has triggered his contract but unconfirmed. I suspect Drury will be kept on to develop, was very highly rated and considered a bargain in the rookie draft. I think Goldstein will retire and ruck wise, can see Edwards persisted with on the rookie list more than Free being so young.

Agree on Perez and Spicer receiving one year extensions and Comben 2-3 years.

For the older guys I think if Shiels wants to play on we will let him and if we get to keep our extended rookie list perhaps the same for Howe.

All valid points.

Free vs Edwards is a difficult comparison. 24yo but has shown something vs 20yo and has shown very little.

Do we back the athletic potential in Edwards or go with the guy who could reasonably be expected to break even at AFL level purely based on physical size?

Both could be in trouble if another option creeps in via trade.

I do recall that re Drury but wonder if his size made him very speculative with more pressure to show something compelling to stay on. That said, if the other departures predicted came to be - he could get an extension as a rookie without much fuss.

No problem with Shiels or Howe playing on on tbh.

Fwiw I'd also field offers for Curtis Taylor who is OOC 2024. That would take it to 5x senior delistings.

If Shiels decides to retire l wouldnt mind giving him some type of coaching role. He seems like the type that has got the respect of everyone at the club and has a a football brain...

If an offer was reasonable definately consider it..

I think he is after a recruiting gig.

This - the reason the Pies turned things around after their down year (with a new coach).

An area we need to build.

LMac has done some really solid jobs on key opponents this year that have gone under the radar (e.g. Papley).
He kept Greene very quiet until he was thrown into the centre and got going as well.

I stand by the fact that his beard is too short - prime (BnF) LMac had the luscious Viking beard!

Totally agree def an area that helped the pies and an area we need to bolster.... and sympkin mentioned too so hoping we start moving our focus away from draft now and into these mature type players to complement the emerging kids

Not in a million years will Drury Howe Shiels and Ziebell not be offered contracts next year

If the Saints keep slipping is Hunter Clark maybe back on the menu? Or did I miss some news there?

It's super wishful thinking, but it would be hilarious if Port got double PSD'd by the teams they screwed last year in the JHF/Rioli deal.

Georgiades PSD pick 1 to WC
Bergman PSD pick 2 to North
I think every other club would support it

Until a contract is signed, who knows?
