If you can pick between Reid and DGB, who you taking?
Reid is a superb kick of the footy, probably puts him ahead for mine. Like what I saw from Reid at AFL level compared to DGB, although both still raw. Would be nice having a key defender who can use it. Regardless, nice to have some options as to who to go after.

Here is my insane crack at being a list
manager

If McKay goes I would trade pick 2 and 3 to west coast for pick 1 and Barrass.

Then ontrade 1 to gws for Kelly and Whitfield and their first round pick taking on the salary dumps.

Lmac Logue goater
Whitfield barass Bergman
Kelly LDU Thomas
Zurhar Comben Shezz
Simpkin Larkey Curtis
Xerri wardlaw Phillips

Scott sleevo greenwood Powell ford
I like it but 100% WCE select Watson with their pick and go hard for mids next year

Two fringe players I’d look at from Brisbane would be Noah Answerth and Callum Ah Chee. Answerth has fallen down the pecking order with Starcevich and Wilmot playing such good footy. Ah Chee out of favour because of Coleman playing that role across half back.

Answerth can lock down on both small and mid sized forwards, while Ah Chee can be an outside distributor.

Both of them would definitely be worth a look come the end of the year if they still aren’t getting a gig.

If McKay was to go and we got a first Rounder would you Swap Pick2,3 and the Port first rounder for right to the #1 Pick and Barrass.

I can’t decide if it’s overs or unders but West Coast could set themselves up with 3 first rounder that include the 2nd and third picks in the draft and we get a quality key back and Reid.

I feel they will get some ridiculous offers for Pick#1 so that might be the only thing that sways me to thinking it’s not enough?
No. I'd pick Watson, Caddy and the Philofax.

Self-indulgent Round 1 2024 fantasy line-up

(the If McKay Stays version - new players in italics)

Goater - Bmac - Miles Bergman
Sheeze - Logue - Lachie Ash
Scott - Wardlaw - Thomas
Stevo - Comben - Zurhaar
Curtis - Larks - Nick Watson

X - LDU - Phillips

INT: Simpkin - Miller Bergman - Powell - Ford - George

Depth: Goldy, Greenwood, Shiels, Corr, CCJ, Tucker, Curtis, Perez, Spicer, Hansen Jnr

Noah can’t kick but can ark

Fair enough. I rate Barrass. Effectively you are swapping bmac for him and getting the rights to Reid. I am curious as to how you plan on having a squad of good players all the same age competing in our “window”.
I guess I'm taking a more long term view in not trading out 1st round picks until the list is rounded out more, especially with Tassie coming in.
I'd prefer trading for talent in the 21-25 year old range mainly with 3rd round selections, possibly 2nds, as they're more speculative picks.
Also you would consider trading the Port pick or future 2nd for a younger McKay replacement. If you get band 1 then maybe you could split the pick for a later top 10 selection and another 1st to trade or look at a salary dump to get another 1st so trading one of those 1sts out doesn't hurt the build as much.
I'd be more planning for 2025-26 to go targeting those player when the Sheezel and Wardlaw group are hitting 70 games.
Blighty reckoned you need 18 top 30 picks on your list and I wouldn't think we quite have that. More talent is needed.
I don't rate Reid as matching up to the draft hype just yet and need to see more of him in the midfield to see if he is a Toby Greene level talent.
But I guess the Demons traded for Lever when he was 21 so maybe I have no NFI what I'm talking about.
I'm just a little burnt by the Polec trade I guess so I'd rather built out the list more organically like what OKC Thunder and Nuggets did but maybe that's not the right idea and bringing in somebody ready made is the right thing to do. It's a tough call.
I just don't want to be Carlton or Freo in a couple of years where we don't have enough quality to contend.

I think Reid for a F2 would be a reasonable gamble for us.
If there is actually any pressure on the AFL for an assistance package that we will do a ‘22 and court an opposition player throughout the year,. The afl, North and opposition team get together, discuss a fair trade pick and the AFL give that to us to be traded.

It would mean that 2 clubs benefit from the assistance while not necessarily allowing North to dilute the draft cohort. If this is the case, North may have a decent player they have in mind.

LOL. Just counted. WE have 19.

Doesn't include Comben at 31. Also doesn't include Scott, Larkey, Zurhaar, Curtis (and Taylor,) or Goldy but he's not around long.

But it does include JZ, Cunners, Corr, Lmac, Bonar, CCJ and Buckets.

Kelly please I’m sick of our supporters thinking this bloke is coming knock knock who’s there Kelly who Kelly I’m definitely coming to North this time.
Sorry no you had chance to come to North so just Fu:k off .
Whitfield maybe
Barass will be at another Vic Club just not North.
As for the Team can only see McDonald not in it and Xerri not in and Greenwood.
Personally I’d keep both 1st picks and try an add maybe a Free Agent or 2 and walk someone to the PSD.
As for delisted players who in many ways that won’t get picked up by another AFL club via any draft or Rookied try and convince them to stay in the VFL program which we haven’t been able to hold on to so far since the VFL re started at North.
Both Kelly and whitfield are too old for what we're building. We need to bring in 23-26yr olds. Not guys pushing 30.

Wow ok that's surprising. I knew we had a fair few 1st rounders but didn't think we had as many as 19 top 30 picks.
Looking at the breakdown below there's not a lot of balance in the top 30 selections across all lines and some are questionable in terms of talent level and age in terms of sticking around.

1st Round - Ziebell (#9), Cunners (#5), Stevo (#6), Logue (#8), LMac (#8), LDU (#4), Sheezel (#3), Wardlaw (#4), Corr (#14), Simpkin (#12), Bonar (#11), Powell (#13), Thomas (#8), Phillips (#3)
2nd Round (19-30) - CCJ (#20), McKay (#21), Goater (#22) , George (#26), Tucker (#27)

JZ, Cunners, Corr and Bonar won't be there too much longer and if McKay leaves that's 14 top 30 picks left.
Tucker might have 3-5 years left in him but is largely a solid AFL/depth player. Logue has been a good pickup.
LMac and Stevo aren't star players for top 10 picks, how long they will last will be an interesting one.
Phillips, Powell, Goater, George and CCJ still developing so give them some time.
Pretty confident in LDU, Simpkin, Sheezel, Wardlaw and Thomas in terms of elite potential.
