If Essendon make a play for Mckay thats fine.

Match the bid and trade him for their first pick and Zach Reid.

Mckay for Reid and pick 8 to 10. Lets go.

Bring in Tomlinson or Nick Haynes as cover for the next 24 months to take pressure off Reid.

Ah no thanks
I’d rather pick 4 (caddy/Watson)
We can get ready made defenders for peanuts (BZT, Esava, Baldwin etc)

Than pick 8/10 and Zach Reid

It's better then Band 2, which is another possibility.

We all want Band 1, but lets just acknowledge some reality for a minute.

In what universe is Ben McKay worth a first rounder and a top 10 KPP taken just three years ago?

He's definitely worth a first rounder. And Reid hasn't exactly set the world on fire, has he. It's a deal that favours us that I'd be surprised if Essendon did, but it doesn't sound that ridiculous. Paul Ahern (pick 7) for pick 69, anyone?

He's a 202cm 21 year old key defender, he hasn't had a chance to set the world on fire. It's a different game regarding developing talls and Ahern had done two knees, plus there's the GWS discount.

He has had the chance to at least create a spark or two. Still very young, sure, but he basically has the injury prone label attached to him now. If they're interested in McKay but aren't gonna offer enough to get band 1, we should be able to force something

The problem with BZT and Baldwin is that they arent very good AFL players.

Esava aint coming to North when he can either stay at Geelong or go to Port.

Reid and 8 to 10 is a great result

Chris Burgess leading the Frosty-Miller. Behind King, Lukosius, Casboult, Chol and arguably McLaughlin. Could be decent KPF depth for next year, remember having that?

Pretty sure McLaughlin is leading the Frosty. Burgess is in the top 3/4 though. I think Burgess is a little bit of a tweener, from memory he is only 192cm/ish and doesn't have much speed or leap. Wouldn't be against him on the rookie list for 12 months.

I'd prefer we go after Wade Derksen from GWS who is at least young enough to have some genuine upside.

194cm according to the GC website, I think he used to be listed as 191cm, must have grown. Derksen would be better but probably harder to prise out.

Our defence is ****ed and Tom Doedee is seemingly available- seems a bit of a no-brainer? Would come pretty cheap, be fit when we're contending, is reportedly a great leader and is a very good general defender.
Doubt he comes to us with other suites available and seeing as he's just done his ACL, may not play at all next year.

I think I'd rather the top 3 pick and putting * in the hole $800k for a KPD that's been hit and miss for the past 2 seasons.

I think Ben has it in him to be great, but I'd rather keep building with youth, new positive culture and bring them all through together.

It seems to be a lock in many peoples head that McKay is a guarantee for tier 1 compensation. I'm not entirely convinced. Our club has been burned so many times before that I could very easily see McKay walking on 650K and the resulting compo only being mid 20's once academy and other selections taken into consideration.

well if they dont give us that we should get a seperate first round pp, also id expect us to offer 650k so if he left it would be for more

either way i expect 2 top 4 picks this year

No one knows what tier compo they will receive till it’s announced

Just knowing how many times we have been ****ed over by the AFL, I'm pretty certain that we won't end up with a decent priority pick and we won't get first round compo for Ben McKay.

A couple of end up first round picks is in all likelihood what it will be. So I wouldn't be banking on multiple top 10 picks.

I'd be pleasantly shocked if it went any other way.
