How often has Luke McDonald been in the best 22 players of any particular match North has played this year?

I don't think we need Hunter but I do think we need a hard-nut with a bit of experience who can play in a medium defender role, and probably one who can be traded in for a third rounder or cheaper, because there needs to be more competition for spots in our defensive 6 in 2024, starting round 1.

He's just another list clogger. I'd rather use that pick on a project ruck or forward
Who probably has more chance of becoming a list clogger than Hunter does. Pretty sure it wont matter cause he will be with us next year if he wants to

They rate him really highly. Would be a futile exercise

Yeah but he’s still stuck behind Draper for the foreseeable future. Big unit is OOC and I don’t see them playing him with Drapes and Wright; they become soooo slow.

Alongside WCE, we are the only club in the market for a new ruck assuming Goldy goes.

Did a good job as an intercepting backman on the weekend. Wouldn't be surprised to see him get an extended run in that role

Despite the physical nature of two 200+cm player crashing into each other, ruckcraft seems very intuitive.

You are trying to physically compete against your direct opponent then if you win, you are ideally putting into the space of your team mate while avoiding the other three opposition mids hanging around your feet, all the while communicating this without speaking.

Unfortunately, Tristram hasn’t yet or is incapable of realising this.

Top marks for effort.

One last 2024 best 22 naval gazer from me for a little bit.

We really need to find a way to inject at least 3 new defenders into our best 22. Ideally 4.

In terms of servicing immediate needs and creating competition for spots across the ground, I would distribute our draft capital along the following lines:

Pick 2 - Curtin
Pick 3 - Watson
NGA - Sanders

Pick 16 - Riccardi (with GWS 3rd rounder coming back)

R3 - Fisher
R3 - Stephens
R3 - Grundy
F3 - Graham / Melican / Smith
R4 - Clark

9 players added.

Round 1:

Clark - Graham/Melican/Smith - Curtin
Fisher
- Corr - Sheezel
Scott - Wardlaw - Stephens
Zurhaar - Riccardi - Simpkin
Watson - Larkey - Curtis

Grundy - LDU - Thomas

Goater - Comben - Phillips - Powell

Depth: McDonald, Sanders, Ford, Stephenson, CCJ, George, Archer, Bergman, Drury, Goldie, Tucker, Xerri

Delistings: McKay, Edwards (r), Hall, Bonar, Dawson (r), Cunnington, Ziebell, Turner (r), Free (r), Mahony, Shiels (r), Young, Spicer, Howe (r), Perez.

15 players delisted, 9 from main list. Could (re)rookie a couple of these.
Pick 16 for riccardi is way overs - 3rd rounder doesn’t make up for it.
Rather use the pick at the top end.
Mate I'm not sure how much more I can say to you about him if you're not convinced.

There are several midfielders out there who can keep the cream of the crop pretty quiet too - it's the nature of football that the opposition is going to put concerted effort into stopping quality players. The best key forwards are inconsistent and can be kept quiet pretty easily too - I suppose we should overlook any gun key forward prospect that may pop up - someone let Gold Coast know that Walter isn't worth it because Brandon Zerk-Thatcher might clamp him down at some stage. It's such a terrible argument against selecting Watson.

He's powerful, he hits hard and there's a sense in which the whole 'Wizard' nickname suggests his impact offensively is the thing that makes him a good prospect. He's fast over short distance, agile as anything, got an excellent leap and can kick goals in every way you can imagine.
Doubt he can ruck - delist.

There's a reason, actually no, probably several reasons why most people on the Saints board can't wait to get rid of him.

No thanks.

And might not have been a stand out against up but would have been in the best five the following too games... then surprisingly dropped last week. I think he would be a good get and good competition esp for lmac.... currently he doesn't have a lot of challenges for his spot, so bit of depth is always good

For me, I'd like to get Clark in our club. He has a lot of talent, but injuries stopped his momentum. He may have checked out at the Saints if they asked him to sign and he hasn't. Brady did say we'll get him this year and I think he will be with his mate LDU. Big upgrade on some players we have in the team. The Saints wanted a 2nd rounder last year but now we get him cheap.

Didn't they want our pick 3 last yr hence fell through... this year though will be a different story ooc and psd threat

Suitors wait on Georgiades

Strong-marking Port Adelaide forward Mitch Georgiades is still undecided on where he will play beyond this season.

The 21-year-old, who was the No.18 pick in the 2019 draft, is recovering from his ACL rupture in April. So far, he is only speaking to the Power despite having suitors in both Victoria and his home state Western Australia, a source familiar with the situation but not authorised to speak publicly told Money Talks.

West Coast made him a formal offer last year, but Georgiades opted to instead complete his contract at Alberton.

He spent time in the SANFL this season and part of the complication is Port Adelaide are blessed for key forward options, from veteran Charlie Dixon, to Todd Marshall, Jeremy Finlayson, Ollie Lord and Tom Scully. But the Power are keen to retain Georgiades.

The Eagles remain interested in Georgiades, while Fremantle are another option, even with Jye Amiss, in particular, and Josh Treacy showing promise in the Dockers’ forward line.

Hawthorn are on the hunt for a key forward, hoping to find a reliable partner for star spearhead Mitch Lewis. Out-of-contract Giant Jake Riccardi is one player in the Hawks’ sights.

They are close to re-signing mid-season draftee Brandon Ryan, who has kicked four goals in two senior games, and they also have Jacob Koschitzke on the list. Hawthorn are in the market for a key defender as well, along with Sydney, Port Adelaide, Essendon and Collingwood.

North Melbourne, too, would love more aerial support for Nick Larkey.

Quiet trade period?

There is talk most years that the player movement period will be underwhelming, but that chatter is louder and more consistent from various parts of the industry this time around.
It might just crank up later than usual, with theories on the delayed activity ranging from the high number of teams still in the finals race, to the holding pattern on several key free agents and out-of-contract players, and even clubs being too risk averse.

A good portion of clubs are prioritising the draft and mostly unwilling to part with the precious few high picks at their disposal.

However, expect things to get moving once restricted free agents such as Ben McKay, Darcy Parish, Jade Gresham and Tom Doedee make their call, along with the likes of Mitch Georgiades, Esava Ratugolea, Sam Flanders, Matt Crouch, Brandon Zerk-Thatcher, Hunter Clark, James Jordon and Dylan Stephens.

They wanted pick 8 or 9 for Clark. Way overs at the time and list management suicide right now.

What about where they were when the Cuban missile crisis was on and JFK was assassinated?
Some of us would rather we don’t think about the gamete we would have been then

Yes, the Babylons catalogued an older gentleman cackling from a nearby chariot…
I seem to recall on a tablet someone was ejected from the battlefield with a description matching our dear Horace
Apparently calling the generals ####, ####ing ####heads wasn’t appreciated even then
