With the hope of getting draft "assistance" aswell as the McKay compo pick, the projected draft hauls this year seam a little more fanciful than usual.

What’s muddying the waters here is the ridiculous value the media has placed on Reid as one player.

West Coast fans have it in their mind the kid is worth 3 first rounders with two of them being early, which is pure fantasy.

The issue with that logic is that they are placing a premium on Reid, but then not applying a premium to any other player in the draft and evaluating them at the exact pick they may be drafted.

It’s like us saying we have Pick 2 but value Daniel Curtin at 2 early first rounders, so you can only have our late first (Port pick) plus the rights to Curtin.

It’s a pretty simplistic equation for West Coast that has been muddied by the media overacting one player. It boils down to do you want Reid or if you don’t what are you happy to get to secure what you need.

It’s no good getting 3 first rounders (1 early and 2 late) if it doesn’t allow you to get the players you want.

West Coast list manager Rohan O'Brien indicated it would take 4 first rounders the other week when he was interviewed. Fantasy sure but that's the club putting a premium on that pick/player.

If Phillips and Powell get beaten out for midfield time by two 19 year olds then thats on them.

Reid and McKercher are unlikely to be pure inside mids in their first couple of seasons. Reid would play down back or up forward. McKercher would play on the wing or HBF.

Competition for spots is a good thing. Why are we trying to avoid Phillips and Powell having to compete for their spots?

If you overstack one area with talent potential a grade players miss out and have no trade value when we are playing d grade players in other areas of the ground.

I just hope we don't get spooked into taking someone 'just' because "all the other clubs have the player rated highly". So much misdirection. With Viney and Clarko I have more confidence this will be the case. Plus Cam Matthews.

Our drafting in the last few years seems to have been pretty good. I haven't really seen any instances of that. We even managed to mop up the Fabian Jnr mess adequately.

I don't think that we're overstacking. We were playing Shiels, Tucker and Greenwood in the middle a lot. Even Howe got run in there.

If a 4th year player, with draft pedigree, loses their spot to a 1st year player, then you'd be questioning the 4th year player.

If you're trying to use an obvious joke as a serious statement then its source is absolutely meaningful. Its showing that you've got a fair bit of bias on this.

If you were so confident about drafting Reid then you wouldn't be seeking out corners of the internet to try to shut down discussion about them drafting Curtin.

Now I see that as possible because I heard that the Demons will be coming hard for the pick with an offer along those lines.

Any club that entertains 4 x first round picks for 1 x player needs their heads read.

It’s fine to put a premium on a player, but it doesn’t work when that player has a premium but not one other potential player in the draft has any premium attached.

Brady Rawlings could come out and say we value Daniel Curtin at 3 first round picks, so where does that value Reid in a trade for pick 2? It means in an evaluation against Curtin he is only worth and addition first round pick and not 4 first round picks.

How are the Demon's getting the GC pick in this scenario?

From memory it was suggested 3 picks and O'Brien mentioned somewhere north of that.

I'd imagine they would attempt to trade for it. They have the picks to do so with 5, 15, 24, 34, 89
