We need good players and we should draft the best available players with our high draft picks.

This time last year people here were saying that we shouldn't draft Wardlaw because we have LDU, Simpkin, Phillips, Powell and JHF.

One of those left and the rest missed 30 games between them. Needs change. We're not drafting McKercher for next season.
We already have plenty of good midfielders who we already struggle to play in their natural position (e.g. dropping Phillips for Cunners last game, Powell for most of the year). It's fair enough adding Sanders to that mix given the circumstances but McKercher on top of that makes zero sense from a list management perspective.

We most likely wouldn't have taken Wardlaw if JHF hadn't left, given we used the extra pick from trading him on Wardlaw, so those people had a point

I used the word fantasy in my comment buddy.

My honest thoughts is the absolute best offer we'll receive for pick one is from the Demons if they secure GC first and it would be Freo 1st, GC 1st and F1.

Now I see that as possible because I heard that the Demons will be coming hard for the pick with an offer along those lines.
What's that Pick 4 & 5 (technically 5 & 6 if not 6 & 7 as Walter will 100% get bid on by North if #1 doesn't)? Leave aside F1 as that could be around 20+ and has little real value in this particular equation. You'd want to be very confident a player you are targeting will be available at one of those picks even though you get two hits <10.

4,5 and F1 is not that crazy if they are desperate to land Reid. With academy bids and possible compo they would become 6 and 7.

Not that crazy for them I agree if they are willing to give up two picks, not sure it works out for West Coast unless they rate the top handful higher than North do...

Yep touched on that with a later post.
Last year it made sense as we wanted Ginbey and the club was confident he'd be at our pick. If that is the best offer on the table I still just take Reid.

Personally I think that's the most likely outcome unless West Coast really want a specific player at 2 or 3 and North can engineer it (assuming a McKay compo). Obviously it assumes that WC also rate Reid at #1... it would not necessarily be in their interests to tell anyone if that wasn't the case.

Howe and Tucker together had the equivalent of one entire game in the midfield across the season, and the idea is that when desperate you can use guys who are usually 2s players, rather than parking Ferraris in the garage.

We load up on too many high end mids and you either trade them while they're young and promising, make them learn a flank and hope they do it well, or keep them in the seconds and their value ends up like Paddy Dow's.

FWIW

Hawk posters are super confident McKay is joining them. One of their supposed most trusted ITKs just posted:

“Might be best to start planning with Big Ben in our back line.

*As of today.”

We desperately need players like McKercher who can run. We are looking to recruit players like him.

And my point with the JHF trade was that we have no clue what will happen. TT might not be here after next season. Anyone could get injured. Powell and Phillips might never hit the next level.

We are not drafting this player for next season.

Ahh Liam Henry sitting in the car watching my Sportsbet and was cursing him for not getting 15 possessions for the first time in ages watching time tick down on the afl clock but not the footage hits one second and zoom had a possession on the final siren . I must say I would welcome him very much to the club.

I hope there are no more death ride trades, we suck at those. And if we trade any of our future picks, assume we finish last again. So our future second IS a ****ing valuable pick.

Honestly don't see the need for us to push into Harley.

Clarko has tried to make us all in 1 club over any individuals, giving anything of note to step up flys in the face of this.

Push for Sanders pre listing.

Take Curtin at 2.

Re-sign McKay

Take another tall with the PA pick.(Murphy, Reid)

That's a good result as a base.

Maybe throw the F1 at GC if we want a Watson crack.

We don't need to reinvent the wheel here,

Let WC and Melb do what they want, our build needs to be about us not them.

Sanders, Curtain, Archer Reid while keeping Ben would be awesome for mine!

Simples 😁
