The big question in my mind is are we a two or three tall forward line?

For me, given the game style of high pressure and our running our opposition into the ground, I’m for two talls.

Something like….

Owans Membrey Gresh
Butler King Higgins

7th as a rotating mid - Steele, windy ect.

Unlucky for Hammer and Hayes.

What do people think?? Two or three?

Hayes is still the furthest away on our injury list.
I wouldn’t be too worried about where he’s going to fit right now. So many things can/will change in the 10/12 weeks he’s still listed for.

He was a shadow of his former self on Saturday night, he would have benefitted from a few games in the VFL to start the season.

After watching the GCS VFL side play they mirrored their AFL side. I am convinced they and Fremantle have the worst game plan in the competition. Stewart Dew is an absolute dud and he gets sets on players and cruels their careers. They have that much talent in their VFL it is ridiculous, yet they only ran over Sandringham with a 5 AFL listed players in the last 1/4. It was all about their game style, they stats pad having 100 more disposals than Sandi and dominated possession but couldnt score.

The entire GCS club looks like they are not enjoying their footy I doubt its a good environment. Gubby Allan and SOS have the right idea looking at GCS they have a heap of wasted talent running around up there.

Obviously we would require a KPF but is Max suited to the Lyon game style?

Like I said left field and not advocating. From what I saw of Max prior to the hammy, he was smashing the hard running out of the park but if someone offered 3 top ten picks, you know something ridiculous, who could we field up forward and who is available to fill that void.

Running has never been an issue for either of them has it?

I've got no doubt he will fit in nicely. Should help out our scoring issues, which isn't a huge issue tight now but no doubt will be when we play the better sides.

I think work rate has been a fair knock on max.

Repeat leads. Up and back running etc.

He was really working hard up until the shoulder.

If Lyon can evolve Max’s game so that there is a higher work rate to his jumping game. We will have a “unicorn” on our hands.

A game plan that isn’t “stand still with 3 backs climbing all over you as we repeatedly target you and nobody else with sky-balls” will be quite refreshing for ol’ Maxy

If Max can run like Roo could or even get close to it he'd be the best player in the comp

The more wins we have without him the more worried I'll get haha. Our entire history is littered with great key forwards that couldn't quite grab a flag. (Mohr, Lockett, Loewe, Roo).

We just gotta work out how to use him best. Lots of elite CHF's have won flags recently (Buddy, Roughy, Kennedy, JRoo, Cameron, Hawkins).

The one rumour I heard was that he was pissed off that Rankine left. They are great mates from all reports and really relied on each other up there. The understanding was that Rankine was going to re sign after king and then didn't.
Whether that had more to do with the incredible offer from Adelaide and the drawer of being closer to family I'm not sure. But since he left, King has struggled a bit and you're right, has been relying on Max alot for support.

With the defensive drawer up the ground and the fast movement, there is alot of room for king to lead now. Plus he will be hit alot more on the lead as well. I think he is going to absolutely thrive

Maxs biggest issues has been the coaching. The midfield has been slow and congested which means nowhere to lead and the midfield was always under pressure which meant dump kicks.
You saw on Saturday the amount of times the saints players where hit on the lead....imagine a bloke at 204 cm with long arms marking out in front on that....

Not many kids with long legs and long arms are great endurance runners until they grow into their bodies. Max was starting to look stronger and in great shape when he hurt his shoulder. Hopefully when he returns he can get back to his preseason fitness. Do we get him straight back in or will he need a game in the VFL before returning.

It's pretty clear at training that he's not injured at all and is just working on his fitness now

Actually, we seem to have alot of mids now.

Steele, Ross, Crouch, Bytel, Windhager, Phillipou, Owens, Gresham, Byrnes, Hill, Stocker and Sinclair have all been in CBAs this year. Patton has also been in the wing rotation.

Plus with billings and Jones still injured as well

More class and depth would be would great, but we really are smoking in there atm by using heaps of rotations

Ross isn’t getting any younger.
Billings isn’t a midfielder.
Steele is becoming injury-prone.
Jones can’t get on the park.
Bytel can’t stay on it.
Gresham may leave in FA.
Byrnes was written off until very recently.
Stocker has played four games with us, that’s it.

That’s eight already.

You don’t stop improving in the middle… that’s how you end up with the Richo years…

What about if he keeps his current form up all year, cracks the pads and says I want to go home to mum and dad and I want to play with my bro ?
After a totally crap unmotivated year I wonder if you'd need to hand over more than a future first for him. I remember when we went for Raf Clarke
ahead of better players in the draft and it was seen as a nice thing to do to get bros together. Not so sure RTB would be that romantic about it unless
it suits his purposes.
