To be fair, my club has an NGA academy where father/sons and NGA prospects are integrated in what life would be like as an AFL playerLeo Lombard and Caleb Nancarrow were both seen training with the Suns AFL team on day one of the preseason today.

Time to look forward to the next draft. My really early mock

Would of still being in high school if he was an underager coltsAs far as ruckmen go, I want to keep a very close eye on Lucas Ravenhill from Claremont.
In one of the 2022 national 16's games he was best 3 or 4 on the ground.
He's mobile, runs hard to impact contests and is already 199cm according to his WAFL bio.
He was based in Albany in the South-West of WA this season and only traveled up to the city for two matches and that saw his profile go under the radar somewhat.
That said, he has been named in the WA state 18's summer squad, so the selectors saw something and maybe he has made the decision to relocate to the city.
Well worth keeping tabs on.
Tobie Travaglia and Luke Trainor are the standouts so far. Jobe Shanahan can play as a swingman as well, and goes superbly as an interceptor.Who are the best half backs or general defenders for next year?
Unless Curtin has a stand out first season I wouldn't be surprised if Adelaide offer us Curtin for our likely pick 1 or 2 next season and pick Draper with the pick.
Had the exact same thought when they took him in the draft.Unless Curtin has a stand out first season I wouldn't be surprised if Adelaide offer us Curtin for our likely pick 1 or 2 next season and pick Draper with the pick.
Agreed. I don't remember the last time a kid was traded after one season unless he kicked up a fuss and demanded it (JHF).Not a snowflakes chance in Hades of that happening.
This should helpAny chance you can go through the names and let us know which are eligible for 2024 vs those we'll have to wait another year for?

VM midfield is stacked, probably the best since Matt Rowell’s year. It will be a very different side to their u16 team. That metro team looks impressive. Would have to be favourites for the national title. SA will have a strong team next year as well. WA will have the weakest side and the Allies won't be that good either, unless they include a fair bit of their bottom age talent.
Mate, you really are going to get the northern academy concessions pulled from us if you keep spruiking so hard.
I think that's what people really want to see. They want to see the Suns lose a highly talented academy player to another club to get their sense of justice. The system is designed to penalise those who make finals and help those who don't. So the more successful the Suns become, the more they will be restricted... but that's not good enough in some people's minds.Without them making finals, it'll become a hot topic next year as well.
They have to make finals so GC academy players will start spreading via draft elsewhere. That'll calm the farm a bit.

That's only ever worked for us once with Lachie Weller. Would be great if we could use it as effectively as other clubs but I'm not confident. Didn't work with Riewoldt, Beams or Tippett. But then GC can use the go home factor for once
I think what we'll see going forward is all clubs will set up father-son academies (if they haven't already) and will put everything they possibly can into developing those players because it's in their best interests.I'm fine with losing academy players when a club is successful. Then the same criteria needs to apply to father son too.
Why should Hawks get priority on all 4 Hodge boys under a father-son criteria ? That's BS in my view and there should be limits on how many times the club can hold a blood line to ransom. If you pick one father-son, then you don't get first dibs on the rest and rest of them have to go via open draft. That'll be fair.
Same would look fine say Josh Daicos going to Collingwood and Nick Daicos going in open draft. Or Will Ashcroft coming to Lions and Levi Ashcroft going in open draft. Father son needs to be adjusted too rather than giving a leg up for a single club forever.
How many years off are we before Queensland can field a stand alone team at the national 18's?
Surely that is the long term goal for QLD and NSW?
Because they want the best prospects from the minnow states to genuinely compete in the Div I Championships against Vic Metro, Vic Country, SA & WA so the Allies concept was rebirthed in 2016 and the Div II Championships was replaced with the Academy Series. Now we're at a point where the Allies are finally competitive at the top level and even claimed their first Div I title this yea so people are starting to talk about separating them again. This has already happened in the women's game where Queensland is quite strong at the junior level and competes in the Div I Championships on their own while the Allies are comprised of NSW, ACT, NT & Tasmania. Wouldn't be surprised if Queensland eventually breaks away from the Allies in the male competition as well.My question is why was this stopped?
