With Yze gone, Stafford and Choco both apparently re-signed, and Chaplin rising in the ranks, what do we think our coaching lineup will look like next year? Who are the best options to come in and what roles should change?

For mine, I'd be keen to see Stafford move to being a ruck/stoppages coach, Chaplin to midfield/strategy, Choco maybe forward line coach (incorporating goal kicking), and then recruit for backline coach. Although that all depends on who is available and what their strengths are. Forward line obviously the biggest need, but strategy will be a crucial one as well IMO.

Who can we get? What moves can we make?

What was Yze - overall strategy or game day strategy or something?

Midfield and strategy/game day - But question marks over if he was totally in control of strategy/game day or if it was more like his area to analyze but then decisions by the coaching group.

Given ball movement/midfield seems to be the area that is underperforming the most (forward line's main problems have been down-stream from ball movement and personnel) I'd like a highly rated assistant poached from another club to take over there, rather than someone like Chaplin.

Of course, Chaplin might have his own new, brave ideas about ball movement - it's hard to tell. He's done excellent work making our defense what it is but we need some fresh ideas.

Chaplin's very highly rated in AFL circles apparently. Was initially in the Richmond job discussions. We'll obviously be getting in at least one coach from elsewhere, but doesn't mean you're getting someone more rated than Chaplin.

What is Andrew McQualter going to do now? Could he be a good fit perhaps?

Ratten would be good for mids. Former senior coaches are usually a great asset as assistants and he has a terrific record.

Blake Caracella is highly rated and was a smart forward. Believe he's at Essendon, would be a good get if we could prise him out as a forward coach and senior assistant.

Yeah, he was put up for some assistant award too recently right?

Not so much that he's not rated, just that he's been around a long time and has been critical in getting the players to buy in defensively - but what we need right now is more fluency with the ball. For me, this will happen with new ideas or voices.

Noticed Craig Jennings is the offence coach at GWS. Do wonder if we missed out by getting rid of him, even if we did win a flag two years after we did so.
That makes a lot of sense. They move the ball so much like we did in 2017-18.

Hahah wasn't the story with Jennings that he did some interview with an in-flight magazine? Virgin? or something? Then we flicked him for being a self-promoter.

So funny.

EDIT: Just found this from a recent Jennings article:

"Those who sit in on Jennings' presentations at Greater Western Sydney rave about them. They are punchy and different, just like Jennings, who has always lived Simon Goodwin's philosophy of never being boring. Even Melbourne and Adelaide great Bernie Vince conceded when he retired that he would miss Jennings' meetings."

That's our Goody!

As much as people want to smack us for our ball movement this year, let's remember how we went out in 2018, how we backed up in 2019, and the whole 'bees to the honeypot' game style.

Winning a flag vindicates the decision to get rid of him IMO.

Yeah, AFLCA assistant of the year last year. Premiership winning assistant, has been considered for senior jobs. Pretty good resume if it was someone we were looking at recruiting to fix our issues.

We'll get a new assistant or two anyway, but I don't think you have to get someone new to get new ideas.

I don’t necessarily think it was a bad decision, it’s just an interesting discussion. The efficiency issues we had when Jennings was there still exist.

That's fair, but since then we've also fixed various strategic areas - namely back half turnovers and crowding stoppages.

TBF to RoboGoody, he's apparently VERY different inside the club with the players than he is in the media.

How Goodwin is perceived inside the club compared to the supporters

Wasn't Jennings essentially moved on because we were awful in 2019 and it was him or Goodwin? They were thick as thieves before that.

McQualter officially available...

Richmond fans often talk about their midfield being their weak point during the flag years. Everything started from half back, and they reckon they could have been more dominant if their inside mids knew how to win clearances and spread. Its one of the reasons they:

1. Recruited Taranto and Hopper
2. (fans) Didn't want Mini to get the job

Don't know much about him tbh, but being there while they won 3 flags can't be all bad?

That just means they gave up stoppage wins to strengthen their turnover game.
