Fixture 2024 Fixture

It’ll be interesting to see what we do this year, I’d hope our internal review identified that we made a big mistake last year.
2022: Josh Schache lining up on the wing against Ed Langdon

2023: 4-Headed-Monster feat. Lobb needing ankle surgery

What tactical curve ball will we throw at Melbourne to start our year in 2024?

Cats double up confirmed. Gather Round is our home game.

Double ups are -
GWS
Melbourne
Cats
Freo
Swans
North
Do we know for sure that our 2nd game against Geelong is in Geelong? I expect it would be based on the fact we go there every year, but last year GWS was the designated home team against Hawthorn in Gather Round and they also hosted them in Sydney later in the year. Like GWS-Hawks in 2023, we could get two 'home' games against Geelong in 2023 (one being a real home, one being a Gather Round home).

So in summary:
  • Double ups vs GWS, Melbourne, Geelong, Fremantle, Sydney, North
  • Ballarat games vs GC and Giants
  • Interstate games against Freo, GWS, Port, Sydney, Adelaide (and Geelong, means 3(!) trips to Adelaide). No trip to Tassie or QLD.
  • 2 MCG games against Melb and Rich
  • An away Marvel game vs Coll
  • 12 games total at Marvel (away there vs Coll, StK, North)
  • 2 Thursday, 3 Friday, 5 Saturday, 4 Sunday games excl floating fixture games
  • 1 confirmed 5 day break (between rd 10 & 11)
  • A bye in round 15

No game in QLD for the second year running is bizarre. At first glance a zero excuses draw, especially the start of the year. Rounds 16 through to 21 is tough, but you prefer playing quality heading into a potential finals campaign.

Shame the away game v. Collingwood isn't at the G.

So if my friends take me to our Round 3 game against West Coast at Marvel, that'll be a guaranteed win like this year?

Crap... that's Easter Sunday.

We have a good chance at setting up our season in first 9 weeks. A good chance we'll be favourites in every game except round 1.

We're also notoriously poor starters so that's also a worry.

Realistically those are great games to attend as a supporter unless you have kids footy. Obviously not on FTA but you're home by 5pm and not well after dinner like the other timeslots.

As BallaratBulldog said, 1pm isn't bad travelling from Western Vic. Not great for prime time exposure for the club, but personally for my tribe, it works.

And we'll need every single win from those first 9 games, couple of brutal patches:

Rd 10 @ GWS (GIANTS Stadium) Sat 4.35pm
Rd 11 v Swans Thurs 7.20pm (5 day break)
Rd 12 @ Coll (MARVEL) Fri 7.50pm
Rd 13 v Bris Fri 7.50pm

and

Rd 17 @ Port (AO)
Rd 18 v Carlton
Rd 19 @ Geelong (GMHBA)
Rd 20 @ Swans (SCG)
Rd 21 v Dees
Rd 22 @ Crows (AO)

Not too bad of a fixture
Managed to avoid double ups against the prelim teams
Only one trip to Perth
Only major negatives are only 2 mcg games and wasting games in Ballarat again

Need to beat GWS here this time. If 2 x KPDs stay on the park and Lobb doesn't get shifted back, we're a chance!

Edit: by here, I mean Ballarat btw.
