No you land the player who you’ve been into, particularly when they’re class like Baz.

Unless things have changed significantly since last years outlook this year’s draft will struggle to have any stand out tall forwards in the first round, and none that would be doing much with us in 2-3 years time, anyway.

We’ve transitioned away from the draft being the focus. It’s trade and FA targets now to fill out the roles we want to have covered.

Why would we?

Similar roles, outside/inside capable players.
We'd need the collateral if we're also going to make a move for JUH, or another KPP.
We have an abundance of players capable of playing outside, and also players who can play inside.
Do we need one yet another one who does both rather well, but neither to an exceptional level like the specialists?

Also Smith is, at this point, an upgrade on Ward.
That may not remain the case by the end of this season, so let's see.

They would add some depth - better than Stephens and more durable than Wingard.

Florent and Hayward would be well above “depth”. They’re top 15 players in the best team in the comp.

Hayward is underrated. Very good player on the HFF. Think we already have Moore though who plays similar (and is better at the position).

Robbie is about to turn 31.
He missed last night with a calf.

Love him to death, as I coached him at Coburg before he got drafted, but he will finish his career at Sydney and hopefully end up helping out the Tassie team as a VFL player in his twilight years.

Not a great FA list. Cummings of GWS could be of interest (arguably better than what we have in Impey, Massimo etc off hb) and possibly battle, melican if looking at talls.

The problem is if we have been talking to him for 12 months as you say then and he picks us we can’t say no we aren’t offering our first pick.

If the dogs do our first for him even if it’s a top 5 pick and better then we thought we have to trade I feel.

Ours may end up being top 5. Gold Coast have their own first plus one tied to the Dogs. They could both be in the 8-12 range. One of them would be more reasonable for Smith.
