I’m with you on this one.

He’s a second year player but also 23 soon. I don’t think you can judge him as a normal second year player or normal 23 year old AFL player. You’ve got to judge him somewhere in between.

I think there’s an AFL player there. Maybe not a best 22 player but a guy we can rely upon if a best 22 forward isn’t available.

Outside of NOD, he’d be the first out of contract player we have that’d I’d sign up. Wouldn’t lose heaps of sleep if he left but he’s the type that could still play 5-10 games next year if he improves a little bit and IMO that could be quite useful. At the same time though there’s a chance we can replace him with someone quite similar easily enough - but sometimes it’s easier and better to stick with what you’ve already got.

Agree with this. He’s reasonably handy as it is and he’s still quite young. Good pressure and remove the games impacted by being sub he actually averaged two goals this year.

Surprised Gold Coast have asked a decent young local boy to look around. It’s possible he’d be quite cheap but I don’t think we’d be the only club interested.

no way am I trading Pickett for Young straight swap. Brayshaw and Young are what say the 20-30th best mids in the game? Pickett is a top 3 small forward in the game. It's a scarce position that's hard to fill. Most teams either have 0 good small Forwards or 1.

I wouldn't be surprised if Melbourne have told Trac they can turn things around and contend next year. Trading Kozzie pretty much roots Melbourne's chances next year, so they can't trade him.

Thanks for that. Knew he was GC academy but assumed he was Queensland. Still think he’s a best 22 player at most teams, especially with a few more years development.

Banfield, Fyfe, Walters, JoM and Aish played 100 games last season.

Fyfe had his best year in 5, and didn't get injured, and still barely held a spot in the 22.
Walters really slowed towards the end of the year. Unlikely to best 22.
Aish was dropped from best 22.
Banfield was dropped, and not in best 22.
JoM held a spot in the 22 just, another year older I don't see him improving.

Good way to look at things - how do we improve those 100 games?

I reckon NOD could take 20 of them at as good or higher quality. Maybe cooper Simpson could take a few and then maybe Ras. We honestly don’t have a lot pushing these guys out though.

So we really do need to bring in at least 1 and preferably 2 high end players - who can replace these guys with something much better… an upgrade from fringe 22 to top 10.

This is the type of move that the club has never done that I can recall. That is trading out a 1st 22 player for a greater need to benefit the overall team. And if we want the capital to trade Kossi, Bolton and Warner I believe now is the time to do it. Darcy is an option here but there's a few others too that would suitable. But as I said we've never done this so would be surprised but impressed if we went down this route.

We are according to my mate that has contact with Freo Board members via his work. Freo is chasing an under utilised pressure forward from another club which is why we made a play for Joe Richards. Rossas was kicking 2 goals a game before a bad hamstring injury Round 7 this year. He's both quick and skillful. He is also contracted so he'd require a trade. Possibly the Saints 4th rounder.

JLO and Adam share a healthy respect for each other. I think that would be a great move.
