Is there much interest in trialling Serong forward?
I know he's a real clearance specialist and it's the old Rob Peter To Pay Paul. But a ball winner in the forward line could be huge for us. Has great spacial awareness and reads the ball very well off hands. Genuine Small forward potential, not just mid resting forward (like a Fyfe/Young type who are good 1 on 1 but not really crumbling players to work around our big 3).

Never seen it personally but have heard he was highly rated as a forward in his draft year ... Perhaps we need to trial some things like this ASAP so we better know what to target next year.

Ie. Warner could become a very very strong option, if Serong is an elite forward and we can create room for him through the mids.

Someone like Brent Daniel’s or Noah Cumberland should be who we’re looking at.

Guys who are on the outer and can fill a role without costing a fortune

Take the picks to the draft and target the best forwards that we can.

Wouldn’t be opposed to getting Zurhaar or Stengle too

I’m not sure why the Zuu isn’t spoken about more on here.
Imo he’s actually a realistic option.

We want a burst mid / crumbing forward.
He offers a little of both, not at an elite level but definitely some. He’s a Kmart DeGoey imo.
But who knows what he would look like in a better side.

I could see him playing for GWS side and kicking 40 a season while having 15 touches.

Adding he and Baker to our forward half would be a massive improvement. And add some real spice.
Emmett, JT and those 2 hard nuts would be entertaining at worst.

I wanted to put this forward yesterday.
But he doesn’t quite have the poise or knack to kick those snaps goals that would be needed.

I think if we could put any of Brayshaw, Serong, JOM, Fyfe, Young, Brodie, Erasmus, Johnson forward then we would’ve. They’re literally all mids of slightly varying strengths and weaknesses and hard to see them in any other position.

You guys bagging JOM relentlessly really have no idea at all do you.

In a game where pressure creates turnover, which creates score, he is a massive liability costing us half a mill a year. You could take any mature WAFL footballer on a rookie contract and he’d perform exactly the same. We were so stupid to give up a 2nd rounder and Meek for him. He is a terrible terrible footballer. The sort of player who should be delisted at his age and output. I can’t believe we preferred to pay JOM than Acres, remembering we got a future 3rd for Acres. He is five times the footballer than JOM, in 2023-24, he’ll be 10x the player in 2025 and beyond. What a stupid stupid mistake.

He's had one good game all season, maybe 2. We have Brodie & Erasmus at Peel.
Seriously, its just stupid to keep playing him
JOM plays Multiple Roles Inside, outside mid, wing half forward & half back
Brodie is Inside mid whos behind Young Fyfe Serong Brayshaw Johnson
Erasmus also wants to play inside - would like to see him get thrown around abit at peel to show he can play in over roles

Dean Cox, or Carr maybe next. But both are at clubs with a succession plan.
It’s obvious we need a larger pool of talent off field.
Buckley if he still has the hunger for a flag would be huge in a head of coaching role.
You can see the guys who still crave it, get a second chance.
These blokes were champions, B Scott, Voss, Buckley, and have a point to prove.
That hunger is what’s missing at Freo, when was the last time we saw white line
fever?
Probably on Friday night when we had more clearances, contested ball & inside 50 than the best team in the comp.
Skill is what we need.

Acres was gone before JOM was even talked about he come up very late in trade week

Terrible mistake indeed.
Getting Sharp for free ironed the wrinkles out.
If we didn't get Sharp the following year we would be in a world of hurt.

Agreed, but I know that we didn’t like the cut of his jib last time he was out of contract.

I see Zurhaar playing the same role as Banfield. Getting up the ground and getting involved and then hitting the scoreboard.

I think stuff like this could be really interesting and should be trialed.

We have too much talent in midfield and back half and virtually none in forward half (other than the talls and Freddy). It’s worst in midfield where we have two genuine players in Brodie and Erasmus who should be getting games.

Not saying these are the best ideas ever but why not:

Worner and Wagner are both solid, so get one of them in for Chapman and put him half forward. Replace Emmett.

Erasmus can come in or Brodie and Young or Serong can play big minutes forward. Replace Walters or switta.

Another option: Brayshaw to halfback.

There’s all sorts of really dynamic changes that could happen that maybe make us better team in the long run but instead we really lock everyone into position and role. And have a horrific forward line and ball burners going inside 50

Yeh I remember that, I felt the same about his FIGJAM attitude,
But I like his comments preseason, something about he is sick of loosing and wants to win and that’ll determine his contract thinking.
Maybe turned a corner.

Maybe more of a natural forward as well.

If we're up for throwing players around I'd be giving Jordan Clark some tapes of Chad Warner and giving him a crack at that fwd/mid role. From memory he did play a fair bit of that at Geelong.

The vibe I got from interviews was that he wasn't happy with his form last year and maybe that flicked a switch where he has started taking his footy more seriously - might mean he's a bit more capable now of mixing it in the middle 🤷.

We would lose a bit defensively with Wagner as his replacement but he certainly gave us good offensive drive in the back half of last year

Also watching Chad Warner live on the weekend geez his movement in and out of stoppage is impressive although sometimes the brain doesn't seem to move as fast as the feet. Would be perfect for us - no chance Sydney let's him go under contract though......maybe next year

So is McDonald off the menu now?
If so maybe we look at another Swan in Jack Buller?
Tabs is basically done and Jack is the right age at 23.
A 100 kg genuine tall is certainly worthwhile and with Treacy, Amiss
would be given time and protection.
Also gives us the option of playing Jackson where required.
No. Was shocked he got drafted.

Athleticism isn't everything but there's a certain level you need to be useful at AFL level. Buller doesn't have it.

Raz's starting position at WAFL level is inside, no questions asked. But he definitely isn't Brodie level in terms of positional versatility: he can definitely play multiple roles and is well rounded at WAFL level.

He has a K:H ratio of over 1, for Brodie it's 0.5. That tells you the situations he's getting the ball in and what he's doing, especially considering at WAFL level he's the extractor clearance-wise: I don't think I've seen him kick the ball from a clearance ever. So outside of those situations, he's kicking it way more than he's handpassing it, and he's 1 of the most often used links in transition and kicks the ball often.

Also compared to Brodie, who's played all 6 WAFL games this season (Raz has played 3), they have the same number of tackles (17) coz he makes it to every contest he can, and Raz actually has 1 more mark (22 vs 21). Part of that is just being the link in transition as mentioned above, but another part is his overhead game has been apparent in WAFL games this season, taking fwd marks (and unfortunately missing shots, his 1 blight) and intercept marks.

We play Johnson, Banfield, Jaeger and Emmett every round basically, I think in the same way that Banfield has been shifted fwd with Johnson and Jaeger getting more involved and we've seen no real difference in team performance (tho we're seeing a difference in individual performance when Banfield is a stay-at-home fwd), you could easily play Raz and there would be no real difference in team performance.

He wait 12 months and got him cheap

JOM is a big scapegoat for most on here IMO -

Of the players in and around the mids whose he had a better season than ?

Even the whole team Walters maybe of the veterans and Emmitt , Amiss and Draper at the absolute best of the young guys

Bell cracked a stiffy when he thought of getting the 1st year free and here we are with a over-contracted old spud who was given promises to get his signature

Hawks are loving big Lloyd right now too

What would have been good to see is JL have some creativity like Chris Scott did with subbing out Stanley early.

Sydney game with a game plan to limit Clark attacking run and disposal.

JL could have thrown Clark to half fwd and thrown Young back. Young wasn't having a great game. Change it up and see how Sydney respond.

I feel JL is happy to keep doing the same for the same result.
