What’s a player Richmond are dumb enough to take though? Both clubs in the same spot basically so anyone Richmond want, so do WC. I think to be classified as wanting a player, you have to be prepared to pay the price or you aren’t that interested. That might semantics though I suppose

Probably didn't articulate that very well. Meant to imply for a couple of other clubs to be involved in a player/pick swap.

My point being that it's not a lay down misere that he is coming to Freo without a West Coast fight.

I wasn't all that confident when I said we trade the Saints their own pick back for Collard at the end of 2024 when the homesickness sets in - effectively making the Henry trade for the pick #21 we wanted for the player the board wanted with it.

But it would tie a nice bow on that.

That would have some nice synergy, but I reckon our starting point should be the exact same deal they offered us for Henry, our F2 plus a swap of F4s.

Baker is another JOM for me. Provides leadership, strength and class but:

1. he's not a goal kicker - our primary need; and
2. who does he replace? Our back 7 are sorted. JOM?

And if I was Baker, why would I go to Freo. Not guaranteed first 22, at least after 1st year and low down the list for $. Whereas at WC, guaranteed starter for the rest of his career and can demand decent money, and already has his premierships. Seems a perfect match.

Our primary need are Ballas/Walters types and a superstar mid if we can crowbar them out of another club. That's what get us to contend strongly the next few years. Use the picks anyway needed to achieve that. Anything else is an unnecessary distraction.

Where exactly he fits is a different story but if you went old school, school yard picks I’d only have the following ahead of him:

Front 6: Amiss, Treacy

Give it a full season of him being fully fit and Chapman will join that list IMO. ATM though it is spot on.

Anyone who thinks Baker wouldn't be an automatic selection for us probably hasn't seen him play.

It's not so much whether he'll be selected, but the cost for what essentially will be a mid tier player for us.

Yeah, I just see him as such an upgrade on the roll of Switta or specifically Emmett that I'm happy for a late first. The capspace I'll assume they know what they are doing given how cheap they have been on other players. I'm so tired of watching Walters unable to contest or Emmett unable to do cleanly dispose of the ball that I honestly think Baker would result in at least an extra goal a game just by not ****ing things up

I think he’d finish in our top 10 B&F but that’s just my opinion. I’m not saying he’s 12th best, more stating people are crazy if they have guys like Walker, Frederick, Aish, Chapman, Johnson, Banfield etc ahead of him.

Obviously anyone with height gets picked before him. As a small he’d be in our first 5 picked all day every day.

Anyway, what I’d pay?

I’d start with Saints 2nd rounder, but would pay our latest 1st rounder ~16.

If Tigers want higher I’d even pay our second best 1st rounder but would hope we get currency back. Maybe a future 2nd/3rd or something somewhat irrelevant.

Baker not being best 22 at freo is nuffie talk. Not sure there’s much more to be said there.

You have to think the eagles will come hard for Warner end of next year. They will have to pay a pretty picture for him though, it will cost them at least two first round picks.
