For me it really comes down to horses for courses depending on the opposition forward line.

N Murray & Worrell pick themselves.

Then it's a case of matchup whether we need to lockdown on another key forward with Butts or go more attacking with Keane.

I hope at times we try Worrell in other roles up the ground, allowing us to use N Murray, Butts & Keane.

We really should be smarter with our player management, rotating around 30 players during the season.
Kane, you do realise most Clubs already play a minimum of 31 players over a season already ?

There is a difference between rotating players and playing them out of necessity due to injury.
Maybe occasionally ....give me an example of players forced to play due to injuries ?

That wasn’t Rory’s point though, is what playing more players due to injury
Ah yeah missed that.
Any time Borlase plays would be an example or burgess

Wayne I'm taking about using 30 players with all playing plenty of games, rather than 30 players with many only playing a few.

Ie. The Cats model.

Worth trying different things, particularly given our lack of ruck stocks.
If....
We were in season right now
And....
ROB went down with a 8 week injury
Who would ruck for us?
Strachan and TT are out. Butts too.

I guess it's Burgess. Worrell? Is Turray ready?

Lean times...

Almost like we shouldn't have signed up periphery players and got a ruck.

They are easy to get and cheap as chips by all accounts

I think we are happy with a makeshift ruck

It feels like RoB has told the club he is going to Melbourne

This informs our decision not to go after Dodson - or seem to try- and go for a ready made replacement in Draper Ess

To be fair, we have plenty of "ruck-capable" players on our list. O'Brien, Strachan, Thilthorpe, T. Murray, Burgess, and Butts (if we're counting him) is plenty. I don't think it would be good list management to have enough ruck cover to deal with injuries to your three lead ruck options. If it happens, you either just weather the storm until one of them returns, or if they're all out long-term you get one in the midseason draft.

Our problem isn't the lack of ruck options... it's that most of them are either not good, not good yet, or players that you would really prefer to be playing elsewhere.

Almost like we should have weighed up who was good or not and made a decision

Why does it feel like that?
Weren’t people saying that this year?
Surely if so we would have picked up a ruck?
The Draper stuff is only rumor, and we have some saying he wants to come home and the others saying he won’t come home?

That's not where our team is though Kane

Our next stage of development is playing lots of games with the same players next to you .....instinctively knowing what your teammate alongside & in front of you is going to do

This has been a key team developmental component for ever .....however I heard the other day it being reinforced when this was the answer given to the question; "How does a team go from being a good team to a great team"

The Cats Model, is more simply managing its many ageing stars, as we are with Tex .....you won't find NORTH rotating players, they're in the same position as us ......you also didn't see BRIS or SYD rotating players

Would Burgess be vastly worse for overall team performance than ROB?

He'd win a few less taps, but it's easy for the midfield to adjust to that. And he does more around the ground.

If ROB goes down, we pick someone up midyear.

Reid has done a good job of re-signing key players well before their contracts are up for renewal.
Agreed. Reid has had an excellent 5 years re player retention, attracting 5 inbound trades inc multiple elite players and including a player who was wanted by 7 clubs (Peatling). Our pick swaps have been excellent for the last 6-7 years and at, or near, leagues best. The longer we go without hearing him poached to the Crows the more I hope it means we have retained him. The next few weeks are critical as someone was quoted that we had more than one re-signing to hopefully announce over coming weeks.

And without listing all players, Hamish has also had an excellent few years starting with the TT draft (and inc the non main national draft players like Murray x 2, Keane, Hinge, Keays and Nank in the PSD). Hamish needed to come good in the last few years and has.

I would be disappointed to lose either of them now as we are seemingly on an excellent momentum swing re list management and talent acquisition- basically the vast majority of our team has been acquired in the last 5 years. We did have a very poor 4-5 years before though ending in 2019

Yeah, we need a great ruck like Tristan Xerri, so he can lead us to Norf levels of success.

Ruck is the least important position on the ground.
Sounds like Draper is the likely option so at least he is free trade/draft wise. Is he even an upgrade on ROB? Don’t want to be paying him silly money to attract as agreed it’s not an important posn UNLESS you have a non competitive dud ruckman like Strachan was against Tiges (can’t see how he possibly survives on the list past 2025)

I guess we could pass up a 4x premiership coach too given how bed north are.
No need for a Harry sheezel or Nick Larkey either.
