He won't push out Fly, but I would think he'll be back at some stage.
Pendles prob will spend a decade elsewhere, and who knows by that point, fly may not be here.
He'll be 60 or so by that point.

Pre-season training: January 24th.

Absent players:

Crisp
Elliott
Mihocek

* Dean and Harrison were back yesterday.

Rehab group:

Maynard
JDaicos
WHE (not sure why, but he did the warm up and then went off to the boundary where the rehab guys were)

The session was more about working on delivery into the F50, and stoppages, which was worked on through 10 minutes of match play at the end of the session.
The tall did some fight aerial work at the far side of the goals at each end. Eyre tends to beat out those his own age bracket, but when it comes to Frampton, the latter uses his body strength to push him out of the way. But that will come with more time in the gym and experience.

There was a different sort of drill. They called it the "Handball game" and I assumed it would be done in groups around the ground, but this one was set in the middle of the ground, with little goal posts in the middle of the ground but same ends of the proper goals.
The aim is to work within your group to reach end to end by handballing.
Fin was very good at this, he broke a few tackles to bulldozer his way through Johnson and Shulz to reach the other side .

Then we got into match play:

White team defence:

Moore
Eyre
Murphy
Sofronidis
Noble
(a few limited numbers means they went with 5 instead of 6 I suppose)

Black Team forward

Reef
Teakle
Begg
Harrison
Beau

Black Team defence:

Harry
Markov
Frampton
Dean
IQ

White team Forward:

Hill
Richards
Howe (who played forward when Johnson had a foot/ankle issue briefly)
Steene
Shultz

Match ups included:

Eyre v Teakle

Sof v Reef
Murphy v Begg
Noble v HH
Moore v Beau haha

Wing:

Nick v Bytel (initially)
Pendles v Lippa

Midfield:

Allan.
Jordy
Hustwaite
Cox

v

Fin
Mitchell
Sullivan
DC

In the last centre bounce.

Sullivan went to the wing
Lippa in the middle

Harry v Hill
Richards v Markov
Johnson v Howe
Steene v Frampton

Beau
Jordy
Allan.
Midfield

Pendles wing.

Mitchell.
Nick
Lippa

with Fin moving to HB.

Player observations:

SSP:

Eyre - Competed strongly, and uses the ball by foot really well. Won a few battles in the 1v1
Sofronidis - Unsighted in match play. Struggled to get involved. Attempted to contest a ball at FB but it went off hands, but other than that, was invisible.
Bytel - Worked hard on the wing.
Hustwaite - half back and mid, worked hard.
Sulivan - Looked good in congested areas, tough.
Teakle: Didnt have any impact.

Fin - Had the ball on a string around the ground, looks strong. Involved in a lot of chains.
Harry - Reads the play very well, and gets in good spots; uses the ball off half back really well. A nice kick as well.
DC - Is really sticking marks lately. Making his presence known
Steene - Taking some nice marks up forward. He's on the right path.
Richards is becoming more prominant in match play, and gets on the end of some nice stoppage work. Knows how to rove a ball through the big sticks.

Thanks for the report Jen2310, greatly appreciated. I was also at training and did not see Krueger. Is he another one of the Covid absentees?

Hey Jen, do you know if the boys are training tomorrow ? I thought they’d have the public hoilday off. Might bring the kids to training if they are.

From what I have been told, they are training.

if markov is an example, he was initially swiped by carlton with the view of listing him to replace williams..... before we decided to swipe him back to list him to replace charlie dean...

my point being that he was training with us all last preseason and it seems carlton could still list him.

as for nomination of SSPs....if i had to guess, I think it's going something with insurance matters...making a player an official SSP while they are training means that they are covered if they break a leg...but that's just a guess.

why are there 2 SSPs for each list spot? I dont know but i wouldnt be surprised if the player association negotiated for a limit so the SSPs had a reasonable chance to nab a spot instead of competing against 10 blokes....of course i'm just guessing

The maximum is 6 train-on players under SSP.

I think any club can list the player. From memory Steene had interest from St Kilda while he was training with us.

Markov started training with Carlton after we decided to go with Steene for the 1 spot. While he was at Carlton (don't know if he actually commenced training) we offered him a spot when Dean was put on the long term injury list.

So yeah, free to go wherever. I suppose a player who is asked to train with a club feels part of it and so is more likely accept an offer there.

Thanks Jen.

Does Fin look noticeably bigger to you? He doesn’t look it in that video but definitely good signs in him shrugging tackles.

Intrigued as well by match sim having Eyre with Moore and Murphy in defence. Not necessarily meaning Eyre is earmarked but interesting that they are looking at another tall with Moore and Murphy.

The mistake that Shaw and Bucks made was not going elsewhere, not that there is any evidence that they could have really become great coaches anyway.
There and our mistake was not doing decent stints as assistant coaches.
