If you're arguing that GC are paying a fair price, then riddle me this - would GC be able to get the same outcome if the academy points system didn't exist? **** no.
If things were different, then things would be different. Gee, what a brilliant insight, Einstein.

I think it's fair, therefore it's fair - have you thought about trying to stop all the wars happening in the world, Ghandi?

The insight is the fact that GC pay $10 to get $30 whereas every other club has to pay $30

Not the logic I was using at all. Great straw man.

Complete bullshit and you know it. But I wonder if you felt the same way when Richmond grabbed Tom Lynch from them.

While not a huge fan of their picks tonight, absolute gold trading by Hawks to get two extra seconds in a strong draft for basically nothing. Way more teams should be leveraging their teen picks like that.

I would have taken Nairn before we made the first of TWO trade backs.

Beyond stoked to land him. Just felt like a Hawthorn player all along. Athletic and dynamic.

Also worth considering Weddle and Taylor play the same HB position in a side.

If we’re targeting Weddle doesn’t make sense to draft a kid high who plays that spot. Waste of resources

You're not getting Weddle.

Even if you'd already acquired him, that would had have had no bearing on if you took Taylor or not.

Weddle can play anywhere on the ground.

Nope, not the logic you were using, but it's exactly the type of strawman you were using. Nice job missing the irony.

The free agency system is different from the academy system. Were GC adequately compensated for losing Lynch by getting pick 3 / Rankine? Probably not, but it's a different conversation.

Same problem of having the AFL arbitrarily define what is 'fair value' though.

I would assume that you're not making the argument that 'this transaction wasn't fair therefore these other transactions shouldn't be fair'.

The fact is, GC's academy picks were unreasonably cheap - the price paid is vastly different to what any other club would pay through non-academy means.

No, mine was accurate. You were saying that if things were different then things would be different. Nice job failing to understand what a straw man is, it isn't when people accurately rebut what you're saying.

It doesn't fit my narrative so let's pay no attention to it!

okay sir, you're completely right and there is no nuanced discussion to be had

And traded out Sam Flanders, Jack Lukosius, last year's first and second round picks and next year's first and third round picks. But let's only post one side of the story to make it look as bad as possible!

None of those things are sufficient in value for what you are talking about.

Academies are fine.

Nga and fa compos are bs.
There should never have been a discount. The discount is that you have access to a player you would never have been able to get in an open draft.

Every other club could have grabbed tom lynch like every other free agent these days.
Can every other club benefit from academies like the northern clubs?
