He's a better prospect than Luke Jackson.
As a ruck I completely disagree? Jackson had infinitely better capability in the ruck contest at this age as well as better vertical testing by multiple inches in both standing and running. He dominated his age group while CDT regularly loses in the middle.
These types of players are an opposition coaches nightmare to plan for. If I was picking number one overall I would take CDT in a heartbeat. His lack of positionality is actually an asset, not a detriment.
If you’re drafting someone at 2 you want to know where they’re going to play for you though surely? He’s B grader in the ruck and a B grader in the KPF relative to his own age group let alone the pro’s, what sense does it make to pick someone like him over any other of the top 10 prospects.
There's no one like him in next year's draft, and the compromised draft is the year after.
Right now I’d take A Walsh over CDT if I was forced to pick

Overrated;
Hibbins-Hargreaves
Carmichael
Dean
O. Taylor

Underrated;
Farrow
Barker
J. Murray

The hate CDT gets on here he's bordering on underrated now
Bangers, can you please help me?

I was in discussion with my best mate, who happens to be a bombre... now I was advising him that "Goodness Goad" was twice as good as . Are you able to remember rankings of Goad v CDT? Which one would you rather have? Thanks mate.

As more of an expert than most, in 2 sentences what do you say to people that shit-can CDT like myself, to convince them he is actually worth a top 2 pick
He's a player with extremely good base fundamentals (skills, athleticism, IQ) but not much role/ advanced craft. Sounds bad but AFL Clubs love a player like this, much easier to teach someone how to do something/ play a role in your system from scratch, than to make them unlearn bad habits

The issue with most CDT commentary is people aren't considering/ understanding of the development to come, going from 4 hours of training, with maybe 1 of those being dedicated craft development, a week, to a full time schedule will be massive for him, particularly with a proper IDP in place and experienced KPP development coaches

Posed this question before but maybe time to revisit;

Anyone under rated on your radar?

Anyone who you don't "get" why they are rated highly and think they are over rated?

Under rated;

I wanna put a couple up for under rated. Aaron Sharkie had a really good year for the Chargers, played Metro and did reasonably well. Think he is an AFL player in waiting.

Hunter Holmes was all the rage at one point, even moving inside some peoples top 20. Looking more and more likely being a latish/rookie pick if at all. The success of Max probably helps his cause but Hunter can football in his own right imho.

Jackson Barbour I think is an AFL player in waiting. No better or worse than Kieran Collins, Cody Brand or Noah Mraz of years gone by. Possess' everything you want in an AFL player.

Cameron Nairm is another who is criminally under rated. He does everything well and can play a range of positions.

Im an unbiased Sam Cummings fan and cant believe some have him in the teens. He looks a bankable AFL player at least. How good will be determined when he enters the system.

Over rated;

Mitch Marsh. I don't get "it", the fan fare. Maybe im missing something but he can football but not sure im spending a top 10 pick on him.

Lachy Dovaston is another. I really like him, some Essendon supporters are suggesting taking him with 5 / 6 / 7. He is a teens pick and no better or worse than Isaac Kako from last year who went at 13.

Ollie Greaves has been spoken about as the next best (open) midfielder available. I dont get it. He is slow, poor defensively and his skills are nice without being elite.

Underrated:
- Harley Barker, can understand the concerns with the ACL, but he has the high level potential to be an absolute game breaker at AFL level.
  • Lachie Dovaston. I'm an unashamed big fan and have been since mid way through last year. The cleanliness at ground level and agility combo will hold him in good stead at AFL level. Could see him having Papley like impact.
  • Tairon Ah-Mu. I get the athleticism concerns, but with his body shape and strength he has all the hall marks of being a strong contested marking key forward in that Levi Casboult mould at AFL level.
  • Jett Dahlitz. Good user, can play tall and small, very natural football IQ. Solid athlete. Feel like his champs have been severely underrated.
  • Rory Wright. Tough and composed across half back. Good balance between offensive and defensive game. Thought he lacked damage as a midfielder, but in space behind the ball he can be very damaging.

Overrated:
  • Sam Grlj. Fantastic athlete, just think his disposal isn't up to standard and will be found out even worse at AFL level.
  • Adam Sweid. undersized midfielder and like Grlj I think his disposal and decision making isn't up to scratch.

To be fair if you have the build he has and are athletic many clubs see them as a low-risk high reward pay off.

Ignores the fact Jackson was a lot rawer as a prospect, and certainly not near CDT as a forward or just in general at football. There's also the fact being a "good ruck" is now sort of becoming superfluous in the modern AFL. Like its great to have good ruck skills but even more important is how good you are playing that extra-midfielder/ruck-rover role Jackson currently does really well. Which is to say, sure Jackson probably was a better "pure" ruck than CDT currently is but how relevant is it?

CDT's testing numbers are basically as good or better than Jacksons in most categories. Same time in the 2km, CDT quicker over 20 meters by some margin. Both had great combines.

People forget Jackson was a genuine bolter into the top 5 in 2019; what sold people on him was the athletic attributes, he really wasn't polished at all. CDT has been rated top 5 for many moons now by most pundits; he's been playing a higher level of footy for longer than Jackson did at the same stage. Thus I would argue CDT a slightly better athlete with a better junior pedigree. He is just a better prospect than Luke Jackson was at the same stage.

Even if CDT is basically a Luke Jackson clone, or even a slightly lesser facsimile, that is extremely valuable and well worth a top 2 pick. These types do not come along every draft.

High risk, high return type.

I get it and will not be unhappy if we draft him. I also won't be concerned if we don't.

Twomey seems pretty sure he is WC bound. But maybe not. They desperately need someone like Sharp.

Anyway, I'm gad we have a decent development set up now, not like around 2010 - I'm still scarred by that period.

What separates him from Louis Emmett?

So if you're WCE do you take CDT or split the pick?

I think he's a less risky than prospect Luke Jackson, or prospect Aaron Cadman for that matter. Every player picked in the draft has some level of risk to them though.

Our board is fairly against the idea of picking CDT which I can understand but I think given we also have 2 other first rounders this year the risk is mitigated somewhat.

We just need talent. Everywhere. At that top end you just go best available.

As noted by others he’s got a lot of good things and boy can he move. In a full time environment I can see him developing into a genuine top liner. I will watch him with interest wherever he ends up.

I hold less concerns about CDT being a long term footballer than I do of Duursma staying at WC long term. Eventually I think Essendon will collect all the Duursma’s like Thanos collecting the avenger stones.

That may be the saddest glove you may ever see…

CDT addresses the need for a ruck and can go forward. For me he has one of the highest upsides this draft. If you can’t physically bash or contest in the ruck he will be primed.
Players like Xerri, Meek and Briggs may struggle in that environment.

CDT gives me Josh Schache vibes but TBH i also thought the same about Sam Darcy so what do i know :laughv1:

Where do the draft 'experts' think the bid for Harry Dean will come from, based on current order its hard to see West Coast, Rich, Essendon or GC selecting him, but could see Sam Mitchell being a pr 1 ck and taking him, so should Carlton look for an opportunity to trade up

Is King really overrated? If he was still being talked as top 10 I'd agree, but with where he's currently rated and the lack of depth/talent in this draft I'd say he's ranked pretty reasonable.
I do agree with Sweid though, very small with no major standout attributes, will probably have to start forward in the AFL and I'm not sure he has the tricks to do that well, extremely talented no doubt but I have my question marks over him.

Adelaide now head to the draft with a full hand for trading

2025 1st
2026 1st
2026 2nd
2027 1st

I think we’ll trade up and get Sharp
